Will she do an all-#1 number one setlist?
1. Roar 2. I Kissed A Girl 3. Dark Horse 4. California Gurls 5. Firework?

I'm not the biggest Katy supporter around here, but in terms of the CURRENT musical landscape, she's a solid choice. There are very few people big enough right now to justify a Superbowl halftime show. And the NFL catches crap every time they pull some veteran act out of the catacombs, so I'm talking current acts.
Katy, Justin, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Pink. Who else? Britney? She couldn't pull it off in her current state. Adele? Not really the kind of music that screams Superbowl. I think Eminem and Jay-Z are big enough, but I doubt the NFL would let a hip-hop act headline. In terms of bands? Coldplay? Barely. Maroon 5? Barely. Any country acts? Too niche.
So Katy is a solid choice. She has very broad appeal and she's one of the most popular acts in the world right now. Am I hyped to see her show? Not at all, but that doesn't mean millions out there won't be.
But I say screw all these younger acts. Let's get Aretha at the half-time show wheezing out "Rolling In The Deep." I wanna see Cissy give side-eye in a stadium.

Yeah, my negativity doesn't stem from the idea that it's a nonsensical choice--I just think she's a pretty poor performer who has been rewarded with the biggest performance opportunity. But honestly I find it more annoying when someone I like performs at the Super Bowl because then I have to deal with participating in the viewing event at all.

Oh look, the same five people have arrived repeating the same stupid things in every Katy thread, as expected. Make sure to tune in next year with the other 100+ million people to watch the 'mediocrity' on the most watched program of 2015! :) ha It's interesting you feel compelled to your opinion and noone has said you can't love her, if thats even possible. The minute others say the truth about her then its a problem? or as you say stupid things. I'm not sure if you're of age yet, but it's called differing opinions. It happens booboo, and get ready to hear more of that word.

Coldplay and Maroon 5 are as good as (or better than) Katy for the SB IMO. She's at her commercial peak though, so it's a good option in terms of commercial appeal. The problem is her lack of critical support and her mostly panned live performances. She puts a great show in terms of costumes and special effects. So I guess she'll make a big party on stage :)) this is more similar to BEPs then. Hope it all goes well!
Btw, I REALLY don't think she'll sing I kissed a girl. It's too 'liberal' for the show. I think Roar, Dark Horse and Firework are perfect for the SB from lyric, sound and energy perspectives. Hot and cold is such a fun song that it's also great to keep energy high. ET is such a huge song for her that she may include it (not sure tho)

Who watches the NFL to see 'talent' though? It's all about the entertainment and Katy is far better on entertaining people than many people out there. She has the hits and the creativity so why not? Leona Lewis has an amazing voice but if she ever performs at the SB it'll be a snooze-fest so I don't get how the whole 'not a good singer' argument should be enough for her not being a good choice.

I don't get how the whole 'not a good singer' argument should be enough for her not being a good choice. Probably because a performer which such horrendous vocals has never played the Super Bowl before, and people do hold the Super Bowl to some standards.

Probably because a performer which such horrendous vocals has never played the Super Bowl before, and people do hold the Super Bowl to some standards. Standards are made to be redefined (not necessarily lowered). I'd rather see Katy performing her #1s and putting on a fun show than Bon Jovi or some country 'legend' (not Taylor, her legend status is clearly not in question) trying to prove that they're important.

The vocals are obviously going to be pre-recorded. Why even discuss that as if it matters? Madonna lip-synced, but the show was one gigantic jaw-dropping spectacle. If Katy can come even close to what Madonna did visual-wise it will be a huge success. I just hope she'll be promoting something, or else that will be a huge missed opportunity.

at least we wont have to witness atrocious live vocals by Adam Levine or Chris Martin.
***Yes they're worse than Katy Live, that says a lot.***

The Superbowl isn't meant to promote one individual item like an album or a single. It's meant to show off an artist in more of a legacy-type format. That's why the artist always does a medley of their biggest best known songs rather than a new single.

Good Choice.
Congrats to katy. This will be a huge milestone of her career.
She had the catalog. Maybe she's not the best singer, but she can bring the fun.
The perfect setlist :
1. Roar 2. Teenage Dream 3. Dark Horse 4. Hot n Cold 5. Walking On Air / Last FRiday Night 6. Firework

Wow. There have been some questionable choices before, but this is truly scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

Wow. There have been some questionable choices before, but this is truly scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Right. The shade it of it all is that she is now the first "artist" who has to pay part of the cost HAHA. How ironic she has to pay to "perform".

Her potential setlist is certainly Super Bowl-worthy but her performance likely won't be. Though I'm sure she'll have insane production considering the costumes/sets/dancing for her award show performances (I never like those though). Madonna-Beyonce-Bruno was a great sequence of really good live performers.I think a viable setlist would be
California Gurls (Snoop could come out?) Teenage Dream Firework Roar Dark Horse *IKAG, HNC, ET and POM would be fine substitutes.
I think better choices would have been JAY Z (Can I Get A..., Big Pimpin, Dirt off Your Shoulders, 99 Problems, Empire State of Mind, Run This Town, N***** in Paris) Kanye West (Jesus Walks, Gold Digger, Stronger, Heartless, All of the Lights, N***** in Paris) Green Day (When I Come Around, Longview, Time of Your Life, American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams) Coldplay (Clocks, Viva la Vida, Fix You, Every Teardrop is a Waterfall, A Sky Full of Stars) OutKast (Ms. Jackson, So Fresh So Clean, Hey Ya, The Way You Move, Roses) Pink (Get This Party Started, Who Knew, So What, Raise Your Glass, F**kin Perfect, Just Give Me A Reason)

JAY Z (Can I Get A..., Big Pimpin, I Just Wanna Love U (Give It to Me), 99 Problems, Empire State of Mind, N***** in Paris, Run This Town) Probably even substitute Can I Get A... for Show Me What You Got. He could have Linkin Park come out for 99 Problems, Alicia for Empire State of Mind, Kanye for NIP, and Kanye x Rihanna for Run This Town as an EPIC finisher. I'm going to pitch this now since he has the coins.

Great commercial!! Looks like Firework is a shoo-in. But that was obvious anyways.
