Next to say maybe Patty Loveless and Alison Krauss, Mary Chapin Carpenter is my all time favorite female voice of all time. She is such a talented artist and accomplished songwriter. She has such a way with a lyric that always pulls me in.
1. He Thinks He'll Keep Her 2. Passionate Kisses 3. The Hard Way 4. You Win Again 5. The Bug 6. I Take My Chances 7. I Feel Lucky 8. Never Had It So Good 9. Almost Home 10. Not Too Much To Ask (w/ Joe Diffie) 11. Down At the Twist and Shout 12. Shut Up and Kiss Me 13. Quittin' Time 14. How Do
Favorite Album Tracks (my all time favorite songs of MCC are her album cuts): 1. 10,000 Miles 2. I Am A Town 3. A Place in the World 4. Between Here and Gone 5. Holding Up the Sky 6. The Age of Miracles 7. I Was A Bird
...and who could forget this! (I had read it was about the late Ray Price but that could be wrong).

"Opening Act" is fantastic - such a great awards show moment. Thanks for posting the video.

I honestly think she's one of the most underappreciated artists in country music history. She had a few years of great success but it's almost like it never happened for how much we hear about her now. I love all her albums that I own (missing 'Ashes & Roses' and 'Songs From The Movie'), and I don't believe there was ever a song I didn't like from her but the bottom 5 are definatley the weakest of her singles for me. I wish her mainstream career had lasted a little bit longer but she's still releasing great music and I'm sure she's happy where she is.
Top 20 01. He Thinks He'll Keep Her 02. House Of Cards 03. I Put My Ring Back On 04. You Win Again 05. Shut Up And Kiss Me 06. I Feel Lucky 07. A Lot Like Me 08. I Want To Be Your Girlfriend 09. On With The Song 10. The Bug 11. Passionate Kisses 12. Let Me Into Your Heart 13. This Is Me Leaving You 14. Why Walk When You Can Fly 15. Wherever You Are 16. Quittin' Time 17. Down At The Twist And Shout 18. Going Out Tonight 19. What Would You Say To Me 20. I Take My Chances
Bottom 5 01. Grow Old With Me 02. Not Too Much To Ask 03. Something Of A Dreamer 04. Almost Home 05. The Hard Way

MCC is a brilliant artist. Regrettably, I'm not yet familiar enough with her overall discography to be comfortable doing a top/bottom 5.

sabre14 and Andy check out her album 'Come On, Come On' if you every get the chance. I enjoy every album of hers that I own, but that one's a masterpiece from start to finish.

I've actually heard that one, and absolutely love it (as well Shooting Straight in the Dark and Stones in the Road). I haven't heard any of her earlier or later stuff yet though.

'State of the Heart' would be the next one I'd suggest after those three. All great albums :)

I'd rank her albums as so...
01. Come On Come On 02. Stones In The Road 03. A Place In The World 04. Between Here And Gone 05. Hometown Girl 06. The Calling 07. State Of The Heart 08. Shooting Straight In The Dark 09. The Age Of Miracles 10. Time*Sex*Love
But really you can't go wrong with any of them. She got less country as she went on I found so if you just wanted to stick to her more country material then start at the beginning of her career. I'm still needing as I said earlier to listen to her two newest albums which I will purchase sometime in the new year.

I think I'd rank them like this:
1. Come On Come On 2. Stones In The Road 3. State Of The Heart 4. Shooting Straight In The Dark 5. A Place In The World 6. Between Here And Gone 7. The Calling 8. Hometown Girl 9. Time*Sex*Love
But I agree, you can't go wrong with any of them. I still need to get her last three albums.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I listen to MCC quite a bit, but for some reason whenever I listen to her, I tend to always opt for the three albums I'm already familiar with. I definitely need to expand my knowledge of her discography. I'm going to listen to some new stuff of hers this week, probably starting with State of the Heart and A Place in This World. I also seem to remember The Age of Miracles being well-received. Can't wait to jump in.
