A bit of a pity that "Love Me Harder" couldn't make it on by now, with "Problem" about to go out the door. I know that 50 Cent managed to appear on as many as 5 songs at once back in 2005, though two of those were his features on The Game's two. Did Usher manage to place four of his own in at once in 2004? With "Bang Bang" technically being a co-lead, she'd have been the second to pull that off if "Love Me Harder" had made it. Worth noting, however, that as of this past Sunday's recurrentless, she does pull it off there.

I checked and he did. On the weekend of 9/25/04 (and the following two weeks), Usher had four concurrent top 40 singles with lead artist billing -- "Yeah!", "Burn", "Confessions Part II", and "My Boo". I do seem to recall Ryan mentioning this as a significant accomplishment at the time. If "Problem" does, somehow, manage to hold on for one more week (anything's possible), then Ariana would still have a shot at matching this feat. The odds are pretty slim, though.

Of course, it's hardly a record. The weekend of April 11, 1964, The Beatles had seven concurrent top 40 singles (this was the week after they held down the entire top 5).

Also, the Black Eyed Peas had four hits on the January 16 and 23, 2010 countdowns, when "Imma Be" was new and "Boom Boom Pow", "I Gotta Feeling", and "Meet Me Halfway" were moving down but not yet out. At the time, however, Usher's achievement was overlooked (quoting from the 1/16/10 thread):

And here's some sloppy research on the part of the AT40 staff. Ryan claimed that the Peas are the first artist since The Beatles to have 4 songs in the top 40 at the same time. Evidentally, he forgot about Usher who did he same thing a mere 6 years ago.

Taylor is on a media blitz. She's everywhere lately! I thought she did a good job
but seemed a bit aloof to me. There was lots of anti-Ryan humor. It was actually funny
because computer lady would say that they were never ever letting him back into the studio,
followed immediately by an ad with his voice. She also said that we were going to party like
it's 19...89. They played Fergie after the break, which beefed up the 07-06 segment.
I'm ready for Icky to just go away. Katy's song is plummeting, but it's starting to grow on me.
