I really like it, but this would be way better if they got rid of the weird background screams in the verses. Otherwise it's about on par with "It's Time" for me, and stylistically that's the song of Night Visions it's most similar to. I think anyone who thinks this is OTOTW pt. 2 simply doesn't like On Top Of The World and is comparing their view of quality more than style. I don't see many similarities between this and OTOTW, and Night VIsions is my favourite and most listened to album of the 2010s thus far.

Back under pop on PlayIGA.
Quote from Dan Reynolds: โThis song is about the relationship Iโve had with my parents throughout the years. At times itโs been strained and difficult, but in the end, โI Bet My Lifeโ celebrates the bond that we still hold on to.โ
Also, the new Sprite/LeBron James ad featuring the track:

I gave my review in the alt forum but in a nut shell I pretty much hate this. Loved the singles from their first album. This isn't anywhere near any of those songs.

They are on a difficult position. First they have enough hits with their first album so pop radio is going to give this a try (other alt crossovers didn't have such luck, in fact most of them fail to have a hit with their second try) but on the other hand the odds are against them. If they go too poppy they probably lose the alt airplay, if they go too alt, pop radio won't touch them (if the song is not as good as Radioactive, and frankly i still think Radioactive, as good as it is, only happened on pop because It's time was a top 10 hit). So it depends of the route they take. And everybody knows how a part of alt fans are, the moment you have mainstream success you are not alt anymore (no matter if the music sounds the same)

Alternative has been mainstream since the BB chart started.

The problem is not being poppy, the problem is some people who are absurd enough to tell an artist is selling himself after getting success, no matter if the same person praise that song six month before when it was only an alt hit.
And this is not something exclusive of music, in literature is far worse, at least people take the work of actually listen the song (which is far more than some people who criticise books do)

Love the verses, loathe that mess of a chorus. It's bombastic and annoying as fuck. This really is two different songs.

The song is doing well on hot AC which is always a reason to be optimistic.
It's like a delayed release which is a little weird (it's not the only case Sheppard are in a similar position but of course Sheppard are new artist and need to create buzz before the release top pop) but i think it was, at least in part, due to the freeze. It wouldn't be a good idea release the song to pop in mid december.
Anyway, it's top 50 right now, so probably will rise slowly till the proper adds day

I don't not like this, but in someways it's pretty much exactly what I expected as the lead single. Not super poppy overall, but with a loud catchy chorus. I can see this definitely making the top 20 and maybe cracking the top 10.
My biggest gripe is the aforementioned lack of unity between the verses and the chorus, there's no transition at all on the first and final choruses at all. It's kind of jarring at first.

This bombed its callout scores. 4th lowest positive, 7th highest negative, 6th highest burn and its familiarity is high.
I wasn't expecting it to score that well with how jarring the chorus is, but I didn't think the familiarity would be this high. I'm curious as to how long it will last here now, they've got Shots waiting so it's not like this not going far here is that much of a detriment.
