Released: November 30, 2004 Estimated World Wide Sales: 15 million 2 Grammy Awards Singles: 1. Breakaway 2. Since U Been Gone 3. Behind These Hazel Eyes 4. Because Of You 5. Walk Away The album that legitimized Kelly Clarkson's career. It holds up very well, 10 years on. The first six tracks are pop perfection, however I do not think one song is lacking in any way (possibly You Found Me).

This is easily one of my favourite albums. I was already in love with the girl from her Idol days, and then she went and dropped this near-perfect collection of pop songs. There isn't a song on it that I don't like.

This album is definitive of the 2000's.. it's one of my favorite albums ever!! Listening to it now makes it even better than before due to the nostalgia factor.... this is one of those albums that are impossible for the artist to top. I've always loved Kelly Clarkson! Even though some of her albums after this have been hit or miss, I still think she's got one of the most fantastic voices out there.
It was like a 1-2-3-4-5 punch with all the singles. I can't really choose a favorite between Since U Been Gone, Behind These Hazel Eyes, and Because of You. Those three are easily the top three songs of Kelly's career. Hopefully she'll return to a more rock-oriented sound like this, I feel like it suited her voice the best - it made it really stand out.
"Gone" was truly the single that got away though :(

Definitely one of the best pop albums of the 2000's and of all time, really. Totally agree about "Gone". That would've been a HUGE hit. I also wish Addicted would've been a single just so we'd have a video for it.

I Don't know why they didn't release another single or two. It was still selling big with Walk Away.
Gone should have been released after WA and then Addicted. While I'm not sure Addicted would have been a huge hit...it was somewhat similar to the vibe of MD. addicted maybe could have helped to set up the sound of MD.

Such a huge era for her. I remember all the singles being everywhere.

A classic pop album. The best thing she's done to date (and while I still like her a lot, I don't expect her to ever top this).

This was one of the most iconic 2000s era ever! The singles were flawless
Breakaway - self-discovery anthem, so much optimism in this song Since U Been Gone - classic break-up anthem, so empowering - the high note in the bridge takes me away! Behind these Hazel Eyes - Omg, you can tell she's been hurt badly! She emotes so well in this song - the video was amazing Because of You - Some of the best lyrics ever "Because of you, I'm ashamed of my life, because it's empty" Walk Away - not as strong as the other singles, but a great closer to such an iconic era
It amazes me that she was only 22 years old when Breakaway was released - everyone thought she would just be a one-album wonder with Thankful, but she killed it this era
