I figured it would be a good idea to get a Christmas songs thread up for everyone in the country forum to discuss country Christmas songs from the past and present. Here's some of what's been sent to radio so far by country artists this year. Jerrod Niemann) Jerrod Niemann - "Holly Jolly Christmas" Chris Young - "O Holy Night" ^ There's a few more I'm not remembering I'm sure. Also here are some of my all-time favorites (both original one's and renditions). :) Alan Jackson - "Let It Be Christmas" Vince Vance and the Valiants - "All I Want For Christmas Is You" Brad Paisley - "Born On Christmas Day" Brad Paisley - "Penguin, James Penguin" Skip Ewing - "Christmas Carol" Jimmy Wayne - "Paper Angels" Carrie Underwood - "Do You Hear What I Hear" Carrie Underwood - "Hark The Herald Angels Sing" George Strait - "Christmas Cookies" (one of those love it or hate it songs) George Strait - "Frosty The Snowman" Montgomery Gentry - "Merry Christmas From The Family" Martina McBride - "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" Martina McBride - "Silver Bells" Martina McBride - "White Christmas" Sugarland - "Nuttin' For Christmas" Garth Brooks - "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" Jo Dee Messina - "Sleigh Ride" Kenny Chesney - "All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan" Pat Green - "Winter Wonderland" Clint Black - "'Til Santa's Gone (Milk And Cookies)"

Glad to see sabre14 start up this thread. I love Christmas music and I've been waiting to listen to it. Above all else it wouldn't be Christmas without Elvis' Elvis' Christmas Album (who could ever top Elvis on "Silent Night?"). I also really enjoy the Christmas album The Jordanaires put out in 1978 called Christmas to Elvis from The Jordanaires. And it isn't Christmas in Texas until you hear Robert Earl Keen's "Merry Christmas From the Family!" Here are some of my favorite Christmas songs: Alabama - O Little Town of Bethlehem Alabama - Little Drummer Boy Alabama - New Year's Eve 1999 Gary Allan - Please Come Home For Christmas Elvis - The entire Elvis' Christmas AlbumElvis - If Every Day Was Like Christmas Garth Brooks - The Old Man's Back In Town Garth Brooks - Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy Garth Brooks - It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year Jeff Foxworthy - Redneck 12 Days of Christmas Vince Gill - Breath of Heaven (a Christmas must) Vince Gill - Do You Hear What I Hear? Faith Hill - Where Are You Christmas Alan Jackson - Honky Tonk Christmas Alan Jackson w/ Alison Krauss - The Angels Cried Alan Jackson - I Only Want You For Christmas Alan Jackson w/ Keith Whitley - There's A New Kid In Town Alan Jackson - Let It Be Christmas (the entire album is great) Loretta Lynn - Christmas Without Daddy Reba McEntire - This Is My Prayer for You Lorrie Morgan - My Favorite Things Lorrie Morgan - Sleigh Ride (great happy tune) Kenny Rogers - The First Noel George Strait - Silent Night George Strait - Hark, the Herald Angels Sing George Strait - There's A New Kid In Town George Strait - Old Time Christmas George Strait - I Know What I Want For Christmas Randy Travis - Pretty Paper Clay Walker - Feliz Navidad Steve Wariner - Do You Hear What I Hear? Trisha Yearwood w/ Vince Gill - Another Angel Gets Its Wings Dwight Yoakam - Run Run Rudolph

I somehow know very few country Christmas songs, so this thread is a boon to me. I'm definitely going to have to check out many of the songs everyone's listed. As of now, here are my favorites that I've heard:
Buck Owens - Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy Jefff Foxworthy - Redneck 12 Days of Christmas Joe Diffie - Leroy the Redneck Reindeer John Denver - Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk This Christmas Merle Haggard - If We Make It Through December (not strictly a Christmas song but w/e) Robert Earl Keen - Merry Christmas from the Family (REK is one of my favorite artists, and this is on my favorite album of his, so I listen to it year-round) Toby Keith - Santa, I'm Right Here

Randy Travis - "Jingle Bell Rock" I've never heard his version of that...I quite like it! It isn't on any of his two Christmas albums that I have so it must've been something he recorded for another project. I usually listen to King George's version (which is great), but I think I like Randy's better. I also came across a few more on my playlist that are mostly non-country but still fit just right in: Susan Boyle's Home for Christmas is really good...I'm a big fan of her voice and love everything she does. Great Christmas album. Michael Buble - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) Judy Collins - Beneath the Christmas Star The Killers - Boots (big fan of this group, and this is a great holiday tune from them) Pointer Sisters - Santa Claus is Coming to Town (I like this way too much) George Strait - When It's Christmas Time In Texas George Strait - For Christ Sake, It's Christmas Andy Williams - It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Anybody remember "A Soldiers Silent Night", read by Father Ted Brendt?
I know its not really a country song, or even an actual song, but for the longest time I had no idea what this "song" was called or who it was by. Usually I know every song ever played on the radio but this one always made me wonder what this was. WYRK used to play it every year (still does actually), and it always seems to get requested every Saturday night (request night) before Christmas.

I'm a pretty big fan of Christmas music. I usually start listening to it in little bits by mid-November, after Remembrance Day, and then I listen to it a fair bit in December. I have a fair number of Christmas CDs, and I try to listen to every one ever year.
I like both traditional Christmas songs and newer ones.
Some of my favourite traditional CDs:
Martina McBride - White Christmas Wynonna - A Classic Christmas Faith Hill - Joy To The World
Those are probably my 3 favourite 'traditional' Christmas albums.
My favourite 'non-traditional' Christmas album is probably Reba McEntire's The Secret Of Giving.
Some other Christmas songs I really like:
Sugarland - "Little Wood Guitar" Trisha Yearwood - "It Wasn't His Child" Trisha Yearwood - "Take A Walk Through Bethelehem" Trisha Yearwood & Rosie O'Donnell - "Santa On The Rooftop" Dixie Chicks & Rosie O'Donnell - "Merry Christmas From The Family" Faith Hill - "Where Are You Christmas" Dolly Parton - "With Bells On" Kenny Chesney - "All I Want For Christmas Is A Real Good Tan" Garth Brooks - "Belleau Wood" Collin Raye - "It Could Happen Again" Farmer's Daughter - "Must've Been Ol' Santa Claus" SHeDAISY - "That's What I Want For Christmas" Taylor Swift - "Christmases When You Were Mine"
Some non-country Christmas albums I love:
Kelly Clarkson - Wrapped In Red Michael Buble - Christmas Sarah McLachlan - Wintersong A Very Ally Christmas (Ally McBeal Christmas soundtrack) And of course, Mariah Carey's song "All I Want For Christmas Is You"

Toby Keith ~ "Santa, I'm Right Here" Alan Jackson & Alison Krauss ~ "The Angels Cried" Lorrie Morgan ~ "My Favorite Things" SHeDAISY ~ "Deck the Halls" SHeDAISY ~ "Jingle Bells" Rascal Flatts & SHeDAISY ~ "Twist of the Magi" Faith Hill ~ "Where Are You Christmas?" Carrie Underwood ~ "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Kellie Pickler ~ "Santa Baby" Wynonna & Kenny Rogers ~ "Mary, Did You Know?" Alabama ~ "Angels Among Us"
I'll be honest, I don't listen to many country Christmas albums.

Speaking of Christmas music, for those who haven't listened to Lee Ann Womack's The Season for Romance, iTunes currently has the full album on sale for $4.99. This is definitely one worth checking out and adding to your catalog.

This is definitely one worth checking out and adding to your catalog. I like that her album is so different from most country Christmas albums. She also does some great older songs that don't seem to get recorded very often ("The Man With The Bag", "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve"). Worth checking out for sure.

Jennifer Nettles' CMA Country Christmas special is on ABC tonight from 8-10. I think it's pretty good so far.
LeAnn Rimes just did a great job of "Carol Of The Bells".

Don't want this thread to be filled with music videos but I'd figure one more on this page won't hurt. This is the official music video for Dan + Shay's version of "Have Your Self A Merry Little Christmas". The song was released last Christmas season but the video was posted just a few days ago.

I have been hunting for O Holy Night by Chris Young for a couple years now, thrilled to see it has been rereleased - I think it was on a Target only CD quite a few years back. Another great Christmas song is I'll Be Home for Christmas by Craig Campbell and the video is quite touching www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi9BEfbH4sY

Bob Dylan's Christmas song "Must Be Santa" is now on the Country section of All AccessI enjoyed that. The polka country contribution, not a bad idea, complete with (insignificant) references to ex-Presidents and so on. It was cheerful, even if not quite as good as Girl From The North Country. In return, I don't have a link for this but I did hear it on my radio -- Travis Tritt singing a song, Only Want You For Christmas, that is not the same as AJ's classic but is still very good. So if you find it somewhere, don't bypass it thinking it's the same song as AJ's. Travis is still a great singer, and this song is heartfelt.

4 Runner also did an amazing a cappella rendition of "What Child Is This?" that I actually heard on the radio a while back:
And speaking of a cappella, Ricochet's take on "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" is probably my favorite:
Other favorites:
* George Strait - "Christmas Cookies" (this almost sounds like Ray Stevens ghost-wrote it) * Alan Jackson - "Let It Be Christmas" * Jeff Foxworthy - "Redneck 12 Days of Christmas" * Da Yoopers - "Rusty Chevrolet" * Wynonna/Kenny Rogers - "Mary, Did You Know?" * Skip Ewing - "Christmas Carol" * Jimmy Wayne - "Paper Angels" * Vince Vance & the Valiants - "All I Want for Christmas Is You" * Brad Paisley with Brad Paisley - "Born on Christmas Day" * Montgomery Gentry - "Merry Christmas from the Family" * Buck Owens - "Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy" * LeAnn Rimes - "Put a Little Holiday in Your Heart"
and probably a few more.
AAAAARRRRGH THIS IS SO NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SHOEHORNING IT INTO BEING ONE
