AAAAARRRRGH THIS IS SO NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SHOEHORNING IT INTO BEING ONE ^ Neither is "Baby It's Cold Outside". The "When the dog bites" always made me laugh. What is her dog "biting"? Simply remembering a few of her favorite things will not stop the onset of bleeding. I really don't want to get hung up on lyric interpretations since I had my head hurt with Susan Haynes' song yesterday. I think the fact that "My Favorite Things" sounds like a Christmas song is also why.

Plus, it's on several people's Christmas albums and they play it along with other Christmas songs on the radio, that's probably why. And I'd been listening to Lorrie Morgan's version of the song a long time before I ever saw The Sound of Music, so that probably helped.

Not sure if many have seen this before (or remember it), but I guess you could consider this a Christmas video from George Strait. George looks oh so awkward at times doing this ;). And who are all those people?

^ Wow George did not look comfortable at all doing that. No idea who the people in the video were. The audio wasn't really sync'd up with George's lips towards the end either. And I just cannot get into Christmas when it looks like it's 80 degrees outside.

* Jimmy Wayne - "Paper Angels" AAAAARRRRGH THIS IS SO NOT A CHRISTMAS SONG WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP SHOEHORNING IT INTO BEING ONE It's more of a Christmas song than "Paper Angels" is so... Honestly though, a long list of popular artists since the 1960s have been including "My Favorite Things" on Christmas albums, including Kenny Rogers, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Luther Vandross, Mary J. Blige, and Kelly Clarkson, etc. And of course Lorrie Morgan's was a Christmas single from her own Merry Christmas from London. So, yeah, I don't see how you can really argue against it being a Christmas song.

And while it does mention winter things, I can understand why people can argue it. Growing up watching TSOM every year with my grandma, this song has no connection with me to Christmas. So yes, it for sure has turned into one (and the mention of snow flakes and sleigh bells gives is that feeling) but I totally get how someone can argue it's not one.

Also "Paper Angels" is about a Salvation Army Christmas Tree program which allows less fortunate kids to get Christmas gifts from an unknown giver. So that song is to me a Christmas song since it involves something directly related to Christmas.

I heard somewhere that Strait had a bad experience with an early music video and that's why he rarely does them. ETA: sourceAnd I just cannot get into Christmas when it looks like it's 80 degrees outside. It's December 11th and there isn't a millimeter of snow on the ground here in northeastern Michigan. I love it. Try getting into the Christmas spirit when it actually IS 80. I was in St. Petersburg, Florida in December a couple years ago and it was just jarring to hear Christmas music and see colorful lights when I'm in a T-shirt and shorts...

True, but looking at the list of people who have covered it as a Christmas tune goes back to five years after the TSOM, so while it didn't start out that way, in 2014 I find it kind of hard to not at least admit it is basically a Christmas song now. I mean, it really has been considered as one for the past 50 years, or else it wouldn't be so well covered. Also "Paper Angels" is about a Salvation Army Christmas Tree program which allows less fortunate kids to get Christmas gifts from an unknown giver. So that song is to me a Christmas song since it involves something directly related to Christmas. Eh, it doesn't really "sound" like a typical Christmas song though to me. And it was just a regular country single release from a studio album, too.

^ "Paper Angels" still charted at #40 as a Christmas release before it was actually a single, and its chart run (sudden jump to #18 then sudden fall) is more indicative of Christmas airplay.
"Angels Among Us" technically isn't a Christmas song either (the only tie to the season is taking place in winter), but its run (single week at #28, several re-entries) is indicative of one.

This just hit PlayMPE on Tuesday Artist: James Robert Webb Song: Stealing Misletoe Kisses Label: Bison Creek Records Written by Marcum Stewart and Shantell OgdenNot the biggest fan of his voice, but LOVE the song! There needs to be more and more NEW Christmas songs being recorded and released; so Indie or Not I applaud this effort. I'm personally tired of hearing the same ole traditional Christmas songs being recorded over and over each year! If you don't have a PlayMPE account then you can stream the song here: Review of "Stealing Misletoe Kisses" by James Robert Webb

Anybody remember "A Soldiers Silent Night", read by Father Ted Brendt? I know its not really a country song, or even an actual song, but for the longest time I had no idea what this "song" was called or who it was by. Usually I know every song ever played on the radio but this one always made me wonder what this was. WYRK used to play it every year (still does actually), and it always seems to get requested every Saturday night (request night) before Christmas. Here it is. WYRK plays this every year. Again, not really a song but it is popular among stations this time of year.

Xmas Country (previously Prime Country) played the Christmas version of "Bonfire" today. I forgot about that monstrosity. "Hold up your eggnog and take another swig".

Wow. That was one of the best covers of that song I've heard. Maggie just has such a beautiful voice. I'd love it if she cut this in the studio and released it maybe next year.
And, as an aside, I need her back on my radio in 2015. I want a sophomore album from this girl so badly.

^ Great video, featuring a nominee for "best hair in a Christmas video," male. I miss the days when this song could chart every year, back before the rules changed. Besides, Lisa Layne could have had a country singing career as a solo artist, if the world were fair. Thanks for posting this.
We have our first 3 charting Christmas songs of the year -- Chesney's Christmas In Blue Chair Bay at #55 (and likely to make the top 50 at least), Niemann's Holly Jolly at 57, and Rucker's What God Wants at 58. I think Kelsey Ballerini and Tyler Farr have a good chance to chart next week. We're "supposed to" have 7 to 10 charting Christmas songs every year, and we're being shortchanged.
