- Maroon 5 maintain their hold on the Top spot and with the group holding firm in the recent Mediabase chart, it will most likely be the last #1 of the year (depending on whether or not the year-ending Top 40 shows air next week or the week after).
- Yes the last segment has the Top Three instead of the usual Top Two. It's been a while since that happened so I imagine Seacrest has a big interview scheduled for said segment (Adam Levine?)

Last year, the year-end chart aired the weekends of 12/28/13 and 1/4/14. Therefore, I'm guessing this year's will be on 12/27 and 1/3. With one more regular chart, I'd say Maroon 5 aren't going anywhere. Taylor will have to wait until next year.

I thought it was a bit strange that the last chart was 12/21 last year, if only because that's the latest into a year that they've gone so far in the Seacrest era. I guess I could see it going either way this year. FWIW, that 12/21 countdown did see a #1 change ("Demons"), which isn't likely with 12/20.

I remember being pleased with AT40 being on that week (even though it was guest hosted) as I was hoping for "Demons" to hit #1. If the regular countdown had been preempted for a year end, then it probably wouldn't have; due to the "freeze" effect "Wrecking Ball" would have in effect gone from three weeks at #1 to five, to be replaced in January by "The Monster".

As it was, "Demons" effectively got two bonus weeks atop the countdown, at least one of which would have almost certainly gone to "The Monster" if there had been regular shows aired instead. A year before that, "Die Young" got two extra holiday freeze weeks atop AT40, and at least one of those would have probably gone to "Locked Out of Heaven" (which topped the first 2013 chart), especially as that was when "Die Young"s airplay was cut back after the Newtown massacre (something a lot of stations did that I didn't entirely agree with, as the song has nothing to do with shootings and the allusion of the title was just an unfortunate coincidence, but that's another discussion.)

When introducing "Animals," Ryan said that Maroon 5 is the group with the most #1s so far this century. 2nd place is a 3-way tie with 3 #1s each for The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny's Child and 3 Doors Down.

Another cold start with Mr. Roboto saying "number 40". We get 3 songs remarkably close together to "cool" us off even more from all the "fire" songs
lately. (Cooler Than Me, Cool Kids, and Too Cool To Dance) Back-to-back Iggy and almost for Taylor. Two groups of B songs in a row on the countdown (33-31, 15-13), including
2 Break songs in a row. The last top 100 of the year was in 2009, and there was an extra week for the decade's biggest.
So that means this unnamed decade is essentially half over! Time flies, and it gets worse the older you get. It was SO much better when they did the top 100.
The top 5 has all one-word titles not counting the words in parentheses. I like the two gospel-flavored songs at 36 and 20.
