26 Lady Marmalade Nightbirds, 1974
Ok I cheated here after saying I wasnt going to include the work of the epic group Labelle. But i don't think you can talk about Patti without atleast include the massive #1 smash single that is heavily associated with her over the years. Some of the best work she has done was with Labelle personally but had to highlight the biggest song of hers.
A funky, fun and uptempo which is iconic. As you can tell by the ranking its not personally one of my top favorites but its still a song I personally enjoy a lot. To be fair even the most recent hit cover of it is not a song I ever went out of my way to spin. The original>>>cover .
Labelle/Patti put a little French vocabulary into the American culture and god knows y'all could use a little European culture even down to the open sex talk! Come on how could i not enjoy a clever song about a prostitute. Patti you filthy queen! In a interview though she said she had no idea what she was singing about, which made me giggle. It was kinda cleverly written that even Patti didn't know!
Funky, R&B and pop and sure fire to make you wanna dance. Can I also add how much I truly adore the entire album.

25 Isnt It A Shame Chameleon, 1976
Sue me I made a few exceptions. I make the rules here. This album was the last recording the group made until 2008 so it was a significant album. Isn't It A Shame is song some might know was sampled by Nelly.
What i really enjoyed about it is the lush background vocals, loved the emotion and soul that Patti conveys here and its a beautiful ballad that needs to be highlighted in her illustrious discography. We will ignore the ending where Patti sound like life is leaving her body those grunts/groans
As usual a mature and classy take on music and the musicality and tlc she puts in her song is awe-inspiring to me.. You really need to listen to this just to set your soul at ease.

The soul is palpable on this track. Who else could make a performance so iconic on the internet decades after it happened? :'(

24 I Believe Live! One Night Only, 1998
This is one of those songs you will enjoy for one reason and one reason only. The voice of a generation, the power in her range, the sheer heights and maturity she delivers here is awe- inspiring. To me this song is a less catchy but vocally on par with a song like "I Will Always Love You". Vocally this is as good as it gets.
Its a wall of Patti here and i usually just listen to this with mouth wide open.

23 Feels Like Another One ft Big Daddy Kane Burnin, 1991
HIP-HOP PATTI! Big Daddy Kane, NEW JACK SWING what else can you ask for? I love this song for so many reasons. I love that beat that is so 1990's and nostalgic to me. I love the feel good fun side Patti displays here and I love the meshing of the genres here. This song is so brilliant on so many levels and this is a style I wish Patti explored a little bit more. She pulled it off.
It was a pretty successful song on the R&B charts and yes while its dated now, it still is a nice memory lane to that time and i love me a sassy Patti. I love that she is rocking this style of music while dressed in a BALL GOWN in the video YASSS PATTI. Stay true mama!
This one is dedicated to Albie

22 Eyes In The Back Of My Head Tasty, 1978
I don't know how deep the love goes for this song among Patti Labelle fans? i just love the jarring vocals here and y'all know i'm a sucker for that disco and funk! I just picture Patti with stank on her face and full on attitude telling a ***I'M RACIST*** to fuck off. Love the feisty approach here and the production adds to it.
Its so catchy to me that after listening to days i keep chanting the same line over, EYES IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD. I live for this type of ready made for dance floor disco.

Never heard "I Believe" until about 10 minutes ago and generally have to agree with your comment to the tee. The song it's self isn't really much, but due to her vocal performance it pretty much becomes irrelevant. Had the need to repeat it twice due to all that.

21 Come What May It's Alright With Me, 1979
Poignant, understated and classical sounding to me. Beautifully sung and deep lyrics that are conveyed in a way only Patti can. Patti is known for her soul and vocal gymnastics but the lyrical content and subtle genius she sings with is sometimes understated.
She has the talent of being able to sing songs i would find cheesy from others in a mature and deep way. Here though her voice has never been at its most soothing.
"Wish I was your child Hold me in your heart We could love so free And no, we'd never part
But I'm not a child And wishes are Just child's play, my love
Now I'll never be afraid Of who I am And who I'm not Come what may
Wish I was a bird I'd warm you in my wings Safe from all the storms You know true love can bring
But I'm not a bird And wishes can Just fly away, my love
And I'll never be afraid Of who I am And who I'm not Come what may
Oh, I'm no fool Shining in your eyes Of the above stars, my love
No, we'll never be afraid Of who we are And who we're not Come what may
Of who we are And who we're not Come what may
Wish I was your child Wish I was a bird Wish I was a child

20 Teach Me Tonight Tasty, 1978
Latin pop flavored bop! Yasss come to the dance floor with me. A fun and interesting twist in her discography and I love it. It just makes me want get all hyped up and think of Miami?? Why Miami when there latin countries, i don't know.
"Tasty" might not be her best albums but its one where we see all sides of Patti and on of her more fun albums! Music to me is about feeling something and everytime i listen to this i feel good!
me listening to this song

****Gospel****** 19 Way Up There Single Cd, 2002
Another one of those songs where I never heard the original until I heard Patti sang it and my mouth was open from start to finish. Thank you Patti for covering this song and introducing me to the force of it all. The magnitude of her vocals here is just out of this world imo. I listen to this anytime i need a life me up. I can see why she was nominated for a vocal R&B Grammy in 2003.
During a time where we had so much thin voiced, manufactured artists, it was nice to hear a song that was both needed and powerful, vocally divine and uplifting and very much stayed true to Patti not of the times but from the heart!

18 On My Own Ft Michael McDonald Winner In You, 1986
For the mainstream this song is one of the most known Patti ballads. It was a major hit a #1 hit on billboard and of her first platinum album. A really cute and of the time pop ballad so I can see why it was a hit but also while i enjoy this song. I am glad we didn't get too many of these ballads from her.
i really like the husky and smoking cigarettes tone that Michael added to this and its a nice duet just not one of her best songs but a enjoyable one regardless.

17 I Can't Make You Love Me Classic Moments, 2005
On a album that had many covers there was a track on there that back in 2005 grabbed me. She really mesmerized me with how she sung this song. Full of soul and classic Patti. While I love Princes version the best, I truly enjoy Patti's take.
There is a soothing quality to this that i can't shake and I love Patti takes songs and just puts her own twist to it. Her voice is a instrument that is incomparable at times. Even though its a melancholy type of song it also has that sexy sound to it. Rather odd.

16 The Right Kind of Lover Gems, 1994
A very 1994 sounding gem from Patti. This is a mid tempo that hits all the right chords with me. Its infectious and has the summer cruise bop feel to it. I especially love how divine Patti looks in the video here. LOL Patti at this point being old enough to be a grandmother mother and all these guys look like children lol. Hot cougar!
This song is perfect for a BBQ and I never knew who produced it until recently and it makes sense. It has the Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis vibe to it.

15 All This Love Gems, 1994
Let's go right back into the same album as the last song. A remake of "Debarge's" 1983 hit song . You can tell Teddy Riley put his production hat into this. Another mid tempo cut that just sounds so smooth and the production is of course very of the times and interesting.
I love when Patti does these type of songs that is a beat or two too fast to be called a ballad. Love how her voice meshes on these mid tempo love songs. This still sounds great but yet is very 1994. The video is simple and basic but oh so gorgeous!
Doesn't her voice sound angelic here?

14 Music Is My Way Of Life It's Alright With Me, 1978
A fierce uptempo disco track that make my feet dance on a dime! I love the ferocity she attacks the beat with her voice on this. A disco modest sized hit for Patti but I dare you to listen to this and not want to rush your local dance floor or in my case living room right now.
I said it before but I love the fun disco Patti, this is sassy, energetic and catchy as hell could have fit in on her Labelle albums.

12 All Right Now Live, 1992
A early 90's groove that is R&B music and dance at its finest. Patti was serving notice during the early 90's that her career was just getting warmed up. I love the production and entire vibe of this song. You can see why this was nominated for a Grammy award . God I miss music from this time.
This kinda sounds like a Janet uptempo that is sung with a full voice instead of a murmur. A tacky but still very 90's video lol.
Sometimes i wonder if she isn't the greatest vocalist living right up there with Jennifer Holiday . It's so hard i go back and forth on many others because i love so many different qualities of voice on many women and men.

11 Finally Got The Nerve Timeless Journey, 2004
To this very day when I listen to this song i can't shake the feeling there is another song out there that I heard that it reminds me of but I can't figure it out. It just sounded so familiar from the first listen and its been killing me not putting my finger on what song that it reminds me of.
A gorgeous mid tempo ballad. What i enjoy about it the most is the vibe and sound of it all. The background work and the dark vibe it sets and emotions it stirs up. Love her voice here and its just a simple song but so effective.

10 When You Talk About Love Fame, 1997
I will let #LisaRinna handle the commentary here but just wanted to add oh how I love mid 90's music
" I guess my second favorite is the ultra BOP "Talk About Love". The energy, catchiness and just all around amazingness of that track is incredible. I think it is a track that fits her personaliy best.
Patti LaBelle should be remembered mostly for a few things: her magnificent voice, her great ability as a performer, her SOUL and her exhuberant personality which has made her appeal as one of the ultimate divas."

9 Gotta Go Solo Feat. Ron Isley 2004.
Two legends on one track who voices I adore so much and they really meshed well here. This song is just so smooth and incredible its almost scary. I enjoy the production beyond belief especially at the end. I don't know who you can not me moved by this soulful groove.
Patti and Ron take turns singing to each other from their perspective and spilling musical soul with every word. I wish they made a video for this and it seems to have fallen between the cracks but nevertheless it's a classic and well done duet for me.

8 Over The Rainbow (original album version) The Spirits In It, 1981
Instantly recognizable. A cover that is infamous now. A classic sounding masterpiece of vocal power. She really poured everything into this song and it has that out of this world Patti sound.
One of those songs that is now associated with Patti Labelle its just one of those songs where everything just falls into place and works together. Its dreamy, it goes down as well a nice cold drink. Your ears need this.
