For MJ, I'd like to include his work with his brothers in addition to his solo work.

Easily Madonna, she just put out more strong material than him.
I don't count the Jackson 5 stuff as part of his solo work. If included, I'd say it's about equal.
Prince 1980-1993 outdoes both of them though.

I prefer Madonna's discography, but she just had the luxury of recording way more music than MJ.
And Prince's is better than MJ's as well IMO.

As much as I respect Michael Jackson as the King of Pop, I've never been able to get into his work apart from a few odd songs. I like most of what I've heard from him, but I don't go back to it much.
Madonna, on the other hand, is one of my all time favorites.
People will give me shit, but I actually think Janet has a stronger discography than both of them.

I love every single MJ album (well, except 2010's Michael), so I'll have to go with him. I do enjoy all of Madonna's albums until and including Like A Prayer; beyond that I like a few of her singles, but not one album of hers overall. People will give me s**t, but I actually think Janet has a stronger discography than both of them. Agreed. Janet's 1986-2004 discography is stronger than both Madonna and Michael's IMO as well.

Agree that Janet's discography is superior to MJ's, but I personally think Madonna trumps them both.

I really liked Michael's stuff, but Madonna just has a lot more to choose from so went with her.

Madonna. I also enjoy Janet's, Whitney's, Mariah's, and Prince's discographies more than Michael's. I still really enjoy his though.

I love Michael's OFF THE WALL, THRILLER, BAD, DANGEROUS AND HISTORY. That's 5 albums.
I like a couple of Madonna's songs on BEDTIME STORIES and EROTICA.

Hm. Madonna's has more variety so I would probably prefer, if forced, to stick with her's if I had to choose in between. But there's no doubt about it that Michael's material was way more intricate and genius than Madonna's music. Albums like Dangerous and HIStory knock Madonna's bests out of the park, I think. I'm voting Michael because the question is asking who's music is better.

Madonna by far…I enjoyed early Michael but to me his sound got repetitive and stale as his career went on.

Madonna. I also enjoy Janet's, Whitney's, Mariah's, and Prince's discographies more than Michael's. I still really enjoy his though. Same here. I feel that Madonna, Janet, and Mariah's discography as a whole have a much more stronger output and far more versatile and relatable material than MJ's. Most of MJ's albums are filled with cheese and fillers. There was a time when I was super into his music, but after a while, it started to burn out real fast after numerous plays. As far as albums go, I still like his Off The Wall and Thriller albums the best, and they're probably the least skipable to me.

To answer the OP question, Michael “the king of cheese” Jackson, any f**king day of the week. Not including his work with the Jackson 5 or The Jacksons (in which he wrote many of their hits - talking The Jacksons here - and sang lead vocal on EVERY single from “I Want You Back” through “State Of Shock”) is doing a huge discredit to his already massive legacy. Lest we forget he had 4 (albeit uneven) solo albums prior to Off The Wall in addition to the 15 albums he appeared on with his brothers. That’s a huge chunk to cut from his legacy/output. A Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame chunk of material, in fact. Not versatile? Pfft.
Not sure why Janet, Mariah or Prince are even in this discussion but okay...
EDIT: And about Madonna, she’s amazing and will always be my #2. Her discography is incredible.
