What album was the last to be successful (whenever in came out) that the title was a number? Adele is angry. lol (Depends on what you mean by "successful") 4 and 5.0 are the only albums I could think of right now. Edit: forgot about V, by Adam Levine and company Maroon 5.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6413996/taylor-swift-1989-sixth-week-atop-billboard-200Taylor Swift's '1989' Set for Sixth Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield | December 19, 2014 4:31 PM EST Nicki Minaj and D’Angelo on course for top 10 debuts. Taylor Swift's 1989 is heading back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Industry forecasters suggest the album may sell over 340,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 21, while its overall album consumption figure could approach 390,000. The recently revamped Billboard 200 chart now ranks albums based on their overall consumption. That overall figure combines pure album sales, along with track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 24. If 1989 returns to No. 1, it will mark the 30th cumulative week atop the Billboard 200 chart for Swift. She previously reigned with Fearless (11 weeks in 2008 and 2009), Speak Now (six weeks in 2010 and 2011) and Red (seven weeks in 2012 and 2013). Two new albums are on course for top 10 debuts on the new chart: Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint and D’Angelo and the Vanguard's surprise album release Black Messiah. Minaj's album may sell around 160,000 copies, while D'Angelo's set could shift 100,000.

With Christmas on a Thursday this year, how will that affect sales next week? I imagine there's somewhat of a last minute rush. I know singles are a big seller right after Christmas, but what about albums? Will iTunes do a discount on several albums right after Christmas for gift cards? Is this week the peak of albums sales then for the holiday season?

^Next week will have 3 good days of sales.
Last year only had 2.
I think the chart coming out Wednesday will be the peak for the year.

Well, looks like Taylor is going to pretty handily take the year's best-selling album crown. Not a TS fan, but better her than that terribly overrated "Frozen" sdtk.

Well, looks like Taylor is going to pretty handily take the year's best-selling album crown. She'll also overtake the RTD sales of Red surprisingly early into 1989's run, becoming the biggest seller since 21!

DOWNLOAD THIS: Here’s a pre-Christmas sales snapshot nobody anticipated. Last week we saw the surprise release of D’Angelo’s RCA album; on Saturday we saw something new—an unpremeditated surprise pre-order. Reacting to the leak of six tracks from Madonna’s upcoming Rebel Heart, Maverick and Interscope decided to make all six available as instant-grat and a la carte offerings (see item below). We’ve never seen a pre-order go live this early, nor can we think of a previous instance of this many instant-grat tracks appearing simultaneously. Some albums eventually get to six tracks prior to release, but they typically go up one at a time. By our math, Interscope just scored $7.74 per pre-order in billing this year on an album that’s not out till 3/10, brightening the label’s P&L at the very last minute. This is the first case in memory (our memory, at least) of a label making such a big score in this way. And speaking of getting hot late, RCA presently has four albums on the big board: a pair from Pentatonix, D’Angelo and the Annie ST. (12/22a)

Pentatonix scans 1 million.

If I understand this correctly, the numbers above are pure sales and SPS numbers will be posted later?

What is Taylor's current sales figure? Could she do 4M for 2014?

Yes Nicki exceeded! I hope Soundscan moves her up over the acapella group. Awesome start, now it's time to see the consistency.

Nicki's album is better than the singles indicate. She should be able to get some longevity out of it I think.

Those seem like good numbers for Nicki, considering her album campaign has been a mess thus far.

THIS WEEK'S SPS CHASER: As promised, we follow up this week's album mini-chart with a corresponding SPS (Sales Plus Streaming) roundup. What's different once singles and streams are factored in? Among other developments, Taylor Swift fortifies her lead (thank you, "Blank Space"and "Shake It Off"), Nicki Minaj and the newly platinum Pentatonix switch places, Sam Smith adds 21k, Hozier hops up to #15 and Garth Brooks, who's not streaming or selling individual tracks, drops two spots. Speaking of streaming, let the holiday booze flow! (12/23p)
