This may be the first AT40 chart 100% based on a Mediabase published chart since Casey's last week in January 2004.
Glad to see "Animals" by Martin Garrix, "Hey Brother" and "Young Girls" played as optionals/extras.

Looks like they're counting December spins, again, after a couple years of, seemingly, not doing so. In fact, upon closer inspection this gets more interesting. Would you believe that this matches up, exactly, with the top 40 from the Mediabase year-end chart ( pdf.mediabase.com/YearEnd14/YearEnd14.pdf)? Wasn't expecting that.

Thank you for posting this early. Yes, they use the official Mediabase Year-End charts this year.
From the extras they selected for this show, I believe that they will air another edition of the year-end show during the first weekend of 2015. They will probably select as extras, "Say Something", "Don't Tell 'Em", Baliando", another "Animals", and two songs from Ed Sheern ("Don't", and "Sing"), i.e the rest of the songs which slightly missed the Top 40.

Ok those extras/optionals were mostly really fun choices (especially DWUW)! Although I'm bummed to see "Chandelier" as an extra.
Also lol at the back to back to back Zedd/Ariana songs.

Well, I guess I don't need to ask if anyone has the AT40 Hot AC chart. I guess I know what the top 40 will be already!

I'm another one shocked that AT40 is using Mediabase's official Top 40 of the year chart. Glad that they are doing it that way.
In years past, remember how the "optional extras" would be the previous year's #1 of that year? I wonder why they changed that up.

In years past, remember how the "optional extras" would be the previous year's #1 of that year? I wonder why they changed that up. I don't think they've done that in several years. When it was a Top 100 (most recently 2009), there wouldn't be any room for filler extras and the first 7 optionals would be chart songs. The 8th optional would be the previous year's #1 song.

Wow! I was expecting it to be different from the one Mediabase published two weeks ago.

On the one hand, it's actually kind of nice that this would, in fact, match up exactly to Mediabase's own overall survey. I would argue that this isn't exactly reflective of the show since this is the overall Mediabase year-end survey and AT40, of course, doesn't consider the whole Mediabase panel...but then again, technically during the years when AT40 would use Billboard's own year-end survey, those also didn't quite reflect the show exactly (1986, in particular, comes to mind). On the other hand, it'd be even nicer if they could pick a year-end survey period/method and stick to it, which they've never been able to do yet in the Seacrest Era. OH and now we have a new record for most extras in one show: 13. But this would be the one case where that's not such a bad thing - that is, unless they end up shortening countdown songs to make room for them...

Last year they had 10 extras for each of the 2 weeks, and at the end of '12 it was only 8.

That is cool that they are actually using the Mediabase Top 40 year-end chart. Like a lot of you, I'm surprised that they are.

Based on what I heard from an AT40 staff recently, they do consider the whole Mediabase panel, but, as to the regular shows, they "weight" the spins by the affiliate stations which runs the AT40.

So assuming that they play 13 extras again next week, when I'll actually listen to the year-end countdown, we get 40 + 13 + 13 = 66 different songs played. Would it be so hard to give us, say, a top 80 countdown with 26 extras, over the 2 weeks? Are they really so afraid that the audience wouldn't be there the first week? I was surprised that only 3 of the 13 extras this week were from #41 - #50 on the Mediabase chart.

Extra from the January 3/4 show:
After 39: Britney Spears - Perfume After 31: Jennifer Lopez - First Love Hour 1 Optional Extra: Katy Perry - Birthday
After 27: Becky G - Shower After 22: Fall Out Boy - Alone Together After 21: Nick Jonas - Jealous Hour 2 Optional Extra: Enrique Iglesias featuring Sean Paul - Bailando
After 19: Tiesto - Red Lights After 14: Florida Georgia Line featuring Jason Derulo - This Is How We Roll Hour 3 Optional Extra: The Neighbourhood - Sweater Weather
After 9: Fall Out Boy - Centuries Hour 4 Optional Extra - Maroon 5 - Animals
There may be one other extra in hour 4 that I'm missing, but it's not showing up on my cue sheet (blame Canada).

Surprising that they used Nick Jonas' "Jealous" both weeks as an extra.

Yeah, this will be the week that I usually skip. I can't wait to see the new chart week on January 10-11. And with Taylor Swift at #1 for a third straight week on Mediabase's chart, expect "Blank Space" to be AT40's first #1 of 2015.

Ryan paid tribute to late Casey Kasem after #23. What did Ryan say about Casey? That we lost a legend this past year, and that he will be missed. I'm pretty sure that was all that Ryan said.

There were some fun extras played during this weekend's airing. About the only thing missing was "#Selfie."

Yes, good extras, but Jealous again, and 2 by Fall Out Boy. They only played 4 of the songs from #41-#50 over the two weeks. I never noticed before that "Lo" sings about being high. Only one of the one-word titles made the top 5. 11 of the top 40 are still charting, if I counted right. Good show this week, after not listening last week. Happy New Year to everyone here.
