This hasn't been true ever since the release (and then complete lack of any promotion) of Style. Stop trying to make this campaign an imaginary competition for Katy's #1's. You've said this same thing multiple times, let it go. It's obvious they are tho. Maybe not on the Hot 100 side of things (which I'm sure they were post-Bad Blood), but definitely on the Pop side of things. How is it obvious? Literally all they've done is release seven singles. OOTW and NR were both songs that fans wanted to see released, and now they have been. They haven't done any hard push for them to be #1s or anything.

Don't you think the same thing would've happened had Taylor been in that scenario? lol

Don't you think the same thing would've happened had Taylor been in that scenario? lol No, I honestly don't lol. And if they did, sure why not try for a 6th #1 if they were that close? I wouldn't blame them. But there's nothing to base that on, and the amount of effort they've put into these last two singles certainly doesn't support that being a definite case. If they truly cared, they wouldn't have let this peak so low. They also would have at least pushed "Out Of The Woods" into the Top 10, considering how close it was. And considering it's Taylor Swift, I'm sure radio execs would have been fine with whatever scheme the label came up with to work them as far as possible. If they were truly gunning for a record with #1s, they would be putting in tons of work. But now we've seen the deaths of two singles in less than two months, so I highly doubt a team like Taylor Swift's would've failed that badly if they were really trying. If they really wanted a record, they probably wouldn't have given up right at the sight of bad callout scores. You're basing these claims off nothing. lol

I definitely agree. ^ "New Romantics" had the chance to become a Top 20 or even a top 10 hit. But they didn't even bother to promote it.

I wouldn't say so, not if it ends up plummeting down the chart like OOTW did.. But I think we all have our own bars for success anyways. Not trying to be salty or anything, but what would you consider a minor hit then? I mean, anything top 10 is a pretty substantial hit... To me, it's not just about the peak. A song that peaks top 20 with longevity could be a hit, but a song that is peaking at 17 on pop after 40 days on the charts just doesn't cut it for me to call it a minor hit. Chances are it will be purged within a couple weeks. Just my opinion though. Would be happy to have it turn around though!

Can this pick up on CHR? What was the last time a song that peaked started gaining again after almost free falling?

Can this pick up on CHR? What was the last time a song that peaked started gaining again after almost free falling? Last significant case I can remember is Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend". After peaking in the Top 10 only a few weeks into its run, it started freefalling. After dropping somewhere between 1000-2000 spins, it turned around and nearly matched its original peak. But that was also a song with initial hype that wore off, then became a hit on its own accord. I dount "New Romantics" will turn around at this point, unfortunately.

The reason there hasn't been any promo was because her label was not supporting these two final singles financially. Pretty sure Taylor said after WD that she would be responsible for the next few singles. I agree Taylor only released these for the fans. The album would have been fine with just the five singles of course so I'm grateful the era went this far. T6 in spring '17?

I believe they really tried to push OOTW. It had a full video that was released on New Year's Eve and it got a Grammy performance. I believe the reason why the song didn't do well and callout scores were on the lower end is because OOTW had been out since Fall 2014 when it was first released as a promo single. 1989 sold millions of copies so millions of people already owned the album. Plus at the beginning of 2016, I think everyone was just on Taylor overload. Her team really tried to push OOTW since it was a fan favorite but sadly the cards were stacked against it.
By the time NR came along, everyone expected the 1989 era to be over. This is definitely doing better in sales since it was only available on the deluxe edition at first. I really feel like Taylor released this as a single for the fans. Plus with 1989 winning AOTY, they were most likely trying to push a few more sales from the momentum of the win and a seventh single is helping push it a little more. But I really feel like this was released as a way to wrap up the 1989 era.

I'm listening to this in full blast while waiting for the floor to recover from mopping.. it's ridiculous how this could be a multi-week #1 if it was released right after Wildest Dreams or even Bad Blood. The itunes position is not random, it's obvious many people like it and pls don't raise the 'dlx edition track!!1!' card cause that's barely an excuse.

It can be somewhat of an excuse for why it may be selling better than "Out Of The Woods". It still doesn't change the fact that it's still Top 10-15 on ITunes right now with the video release and "Hot Tracks" feature.

Everyone's saying the opposite but I still believe that OOTW's underperformance had an impact on this song's potential.
She should have performed this on the iHeart Radio Music Awards or promoted it somehow.

Radio is dead wrong for dropping this early. The iTunes performance thus far indicates clear interest.

#46...
I guess not terrible for a 7th single. They could have made this go Top 10 had they done even a little bit of promo, but I guess they're going the 'avoid overexposure' route... not dumb.

It'll probably stay in the top 50 for one more week (YouTube/VEVO release) and then it may even drop out of the Hot 100 in less than 2 weeks.
