Wow, that George Strait album sounds amazing! I cannot wait to hear those songs! Honestly, "Let It Go" seems to be the most boring song title on there... And "Take Me To Texas" is simply fantastic, so I'm glad to see it made the album. But, a quick Google search takes you to a bunch of foreign pages. I'll bet this is some kind of leak, because there is basically no information about this floating around the U.S. except those foreign sites. However, even if it is a leak, it seems pretty believable! I am excited to see the album artwork.
Edit: I'm listening to Joe Nichols' "Cheaper Than A Shrink" right now, and I think it would make a PERFECT George Strait song. It even kinda sounds like him already with Joe's similar vocal delivery!

The release date for both of those German links say October 16th as the release date (the first one said 16.10.2015 which is written day/month/year unlike how America writes it month/day/year). At any rate, that seems like a probably release date for the states as well, so hopefully we'll hear something official very soon, which is what I'm expecting will happen after seeing this.

Interesting... Would that be a bunch of live recordings from a radio show performance, or just a random compilation of all the studio recordings?

I honestly don't see the problem with the album's cover art. To me it reminds me a bit of Blink 182's cover art for "Enema Of The State." Now, some may not want that kind of reference but at least they're going a different direction with the cover and Honestly, I think I know where "Meat and Candy" are going. "Meat" for the lyrics, "Candy" for the sweet hooks and catchy melodies.

Meat combined with candy is just a turnoff aesthetically, to me personally. I get what they're going for and I would like some more creativity with album covers, but I think that cover is hideous.

It'll certainly be a fun topic for the podcast I do w/them. :) I've already got Chris Young and Mac McAnally in the Can and working on some cool stuff to tie in with RoughStock posts like "Ones To Watch 2016," etc.

I'm guessing Janson's album will get a release date very shortly (most likely a late October to mid November release date). Jake's album will get released once they have a new single out; "Real Life" will not do the trick. I'm guessing a Q1 release?

But I, like many others I assume, still think it's terrible. An atrocious album cover and title is not good just because there's a creative idea behind it. I think it's unappealing in every way imaginable.

Some of the most iconic album covers have been pretty boring and gross honestly. There was a huge controversy back in the day when Nirvana had the naked baby swimming in the pool album cover, and The Black Crows also grossed some people out with their album cover featuring some pubic hair. Both of those albums went on to sell very well, and in The Black Crows case, the backlash only seemed to help drive consumer interest. This obviously isn't as catchy, but I guarantee it will catch more eyes when the casual iTune buyer is scrolling down the best selling albums list and sees the cover and title, even if they think it's gross. Most will just want to know what the heck "Meat And Candy" is about.

Artist: Ray Scott Album: Roots Sessions, Vol. 1 Label: Independent Release date: Sept. 18, 2015
Ray Scott is paying homage to those country music legends that have deeply influenced him with the release of his new EP, Roots Sessions, Vol. 1 out September 18.
Earlier this year, Ray partnered with Rolling Stone Country to unveil a series of performance videos, among them his take on Billy Joe Shaver's "Live Forever," Don Williams' "Good Ole Boys Like Me" and Johnny Cash's "Ghost Riders in the Sky."The response was so positive that RAY decided to head back into the studio, polish up these recordings and release them for country music fans to add to their collections. Beyond the aforementioned songs, the EP also features Merle Haggard's "That's The Way Love Goes," Willie Nelson's "Always On My Mind" and Tompall Glaser's "Put Another Log on the Fire."
"I grew up during a magical era in country music, full of individuals who were original and uncompromising," shares Ray. "These are some songs I loved, by some artists and songwriters I loved, who shaped who I became, and who I'm still becoming as an artist. I hope you love this stuff as much as I do. These are The Roots Sessions."
"This is sort of a regroup for me-not only artistically, but in terms of my career," Ray explains of his decision to self-release his music. "My music and my sense of where it fits in the music business has really taken shape over the past several years. So this is an introduction to that for people who may not be familiar with me, and it's a defining of that vision for those who already know my music."
1.Live Forever (Billy Joe Shaver cover) 2.Good Ole Boys Like Me (Don Williams cover) 3.Ghost Riders in the Sky (Johnny Cash cover) 4.That's The Way Love Goes (Merle Haggard cover) 5.Put Another Log on the Fire (Tompall Glaser cover) 6.Always on My Mind (Willie Nelson cover)

Lol, what? I'm waiting for Pat Verbeek to release a country album now. Kidding aside, Theo's voice is pretty rough here, but passable. The song's (his single) pretty decent, especially compared to the standard of a today's output. His voice gets drowned a bit during the chorus though. For anybody who knows Theo Fluery's story, his life really as been a country song. He's had bouts with alcohol and drug addiction for a large portion of his life.

Artist: Donna Ulisse Album: Hard Cry Moon Label: Hadley Music Group Release date: 9/25
Black train, black train ... I ain t staying where I'm at,; sings Donna Ulisse on the spirited opening track to Hard Cry Moon, her 9th album on the Hadley Music Group label. While the lyric addresses a woman's determination to move on from a failed relationship, Ulisse could be expressing her desire to follow her muse where it takes her. And this time around, it s back to (mostly) original material. After a brief detour with 2013's Showin' My Roots, which consisted mainly of classic country covers that had influenced her, the four-time IBMA songwriter of the year nominee (with songs recorded by Del McCoury, Doyle Lawson, Claire Lynch and more) is back with another superb collection of originals that demonstrate her gift for believable narrative, finely wrought detail and genuine emotion. When she wraps her warm, rich voice around these songs, you know they're real to her. Ulisse is a writer on 11 of the 12 songs, penning four on her own. Fans will recognize regular co-writers Marc Rossi, with four songs here; Rick Stanley, her husband and touring band member (and cousin of Carter and Ralph); and the award-winning Jerry Salley.
The first single, It Could Have Been The Mandolin, recalls a blissful evening in a blossoming relationship. Young love is also at the forefront of We're Gonna Find A Preacher, while the feisty Ain't That A Pity depicts the downside of love. Family stories have always been a key part of Ulisse's music, and here she offers two loving tributes. Workin' On The C & O is a poor man's railroad tale about her maternal grandfather, who began his career as a gandy dancer. Papa's Garden honors her grandfather on her dad's side, an Italian immigrant who found great joy in growing things. She lovingly dedicates the whole album to these two grandparents who made such an impression on her.
In the spine-tingling The River's Runnin Free, the singer stumbles upon an acquaintance in the act of some eerily suspicious behavior by the water, demands: Are you here to lay some kind of trouble in the ground, or are you here digging trouble up? At the other end of the emotional spectrum is As Long As We're Together, a love-conquers-all promise. The gorgeously mournful title track is the type of acoustic traditional country ballad that no one can deliver like Ulisse. The sole cover is the country classic Whispering Pines, a song Ulisse has long loved, and one originally made famous by Johnny Horton, her husband's all-time favorite male vocalist. Ulisse sings the chestnut like one of her own, her voice tenderly pleading for the return of her baby.
The album closes with the lullaby-like I'll Sleep In Peace At Night including Fayssoux McLean on harmony, one of Ulisse's vocal idols from the time she first heard her singing harmony on the early Emmylou Harris records. Ulisse handed production reins to six-time IBMA guitarist of the year Bryan Sutton (Hot Rize, Ricky Skaggs, Harry Connick Jr.), who also was at the board for Showin' My Roots. As on previous albums, Ulisse is surrounded by some of the top pickers in bluegrass which is to say some of the best musicians on the planet: Casey Campbell, a member of Sutton's touring band, on mandolin; Dennis Crouch (Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall,) on upright bass. Stuart Duncan (Alison Krauss; James Taylor, the Goat Rodeo Sessions album w/Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer) on fiddle. Scott Vestal (Dolly Parton, Sam Bush) on banjo. Brent Truitt of the SteelDrivers engineered and mixed.
