Kinda shocking that Keith still did not announce the album. The promo period for 2 singles is almost wrapping up with no album date yet.

They had "John Cougar" and wanted to get it out to radio even though they knew they album wouldn't be released until 2016. "Break On Me" was the single all along that was going to get the album out, regardless of the success level of "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3;16". It'll be released shortly, I'm sure. :)

That's awesome that Keith Urban decided to take Maren Morris out on tour with him! That was a good bit of reading right there. Nice to see him do that for her.

Just wanted to shed a light on one artist releasing her debut album on the 29th.... Her name is Aubrie Sellers and the album is "New City Blues" and the only reason I tell people here is because she's the daughter of Lee Ann Womack in case this raises anyone's interest to check it out :) Here's a song off of it: Edit: Actually, I didn't realize there were already a couple songs already released. Woops Here they are!

It brings me great joy to see that the song titled "Song Number 7" on Randy Houser's album is in fact song number 7 on the album. Any other placement would have bothered me to no end On another note, I absolutely despise "We Went", but I'm glad it's getting the album out. I just hope it peaks once it gets top 10 (doesn't get close to #1) and there are much better singles for the rest of the album.

Any word on when we might see a new Jake Owen single and announcement of the album? I read an article back in 2015 about releasing a new single in January and new album by spring. Any truth to that?

No word yet. Sony Music Nashville said a few weeks back that Jake had a new album coming in 2016 but they did not give specifics on when the next single would be released. A single has to be high enough on the singles charts for them to release his album.

I would expect something soon considering Real Life is closing in on being a year old in May. I'm even wondering whether or not that song will even be on the album. I think they need to release something soon if they want him to have any sort of relevance in the country music scene. I'm wondering if it would be safe to say just forget about a single in January and look towards February or March..

I don't see why you think it would be if "Real Life" (that sold pretty good, despite the brick wall it hit on the charts) which died in the teens, and couldn't get an album out, why now would be any different with his next single. You said it yourself that "Real Life" might not even be on the album, which signals some considerable re-tooling on the tracklisting. If it was the same exact album they had planned on before, with "Real Life" included, they would have released the single already, with an album. Regardless, I don't think the new leadership at Sony will be attempting such a polarizing song as a lead single again. I fully expect the song to be radio-safe and do well on the charts for Jake. One under-performing lead single did not damage his radio career (see "Days Of Gold' as an example). His label can be criticized for releasing poor song choices for singles but holding off until the Spring for a new single will not hurt him and make him irrelevant in the eyes of radio. Stations are well aware of new Jake Owen music coming, trust me.

"Break On Me" was the single all along that was going to get the album out, regardless of the success level of "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3;16". It'll be released shortly, I'm sure. :) It hasn't been mentioned in this thread, but Keith's father passed away early last month after a long battle with cancer. I am sure that that's affected Keith significantly. From what I know, he's got quite a few songs recorded, but of course he hasn't had as much time lately...after his dad passed he went to Australia to be with his family, and of course he's been very busy with the final season of American Idol as well. I have my doubts that Ripcord will be out before "Break On Me" peaks. I think the album will come out at least a few weeks into the 3rd single's chart climb, which could possibly be close to when American Idol ends (AI's final season wraps up a few weeks earlier this year, on April 7. Also of note: the ACM Awards are on April 3). So Keith and UMG might have their eyes set on that time frame (early/mid April), but who knows, maybe that will even be a bit too early. The tour starts in June, though, so it'll most likely be out before then.
Also, RE Jake Owen: I don't know that we can assume that his album was completely done when "Real Life" peaked. I may have missed something, but I don't recall ever seeing Jake or the label say "the album's done, we're just waiting to get a bigger hit before we release it". If the album was done, I think Sony would have probably kept "Real Life" alive for a few more weeks and maybe managed a peak in the 12-15 range, and then released the album. I believe "Real Life" has sold close to 350,000 copies, which is pretty good for a song that stalled at #17, so I do think the label would have released the album if Jake had completed it. Obviously the fact that "Real Life" didn't go higher and wasn't followed immediately by a 2nd single has delayed the album somewhat, but I'm not convinced it was done in the first place. My guess is that Jake was paying attention to the feedback on "Real Life" and still looking at and/or recording a few more songs during the tail-end of RL's chart run.

His label can be criticized for releasing poor song choices for singles but holding off until the Spring for a new single will not hurt him and make him irrelevant in the eyes of radio. Stations are well aware of new Jake Owen music coming, trust me. Well the album never came out last year because of label head changes at Sony, not the fact the single did poorly. Jake went back in the studio and recorded a couple more songs because he felt the new label head had no invested interest in his career and I think they had suggestions for him as well. Now I did say that about Real Life however I know nothing when it comes the business aspect of putting out an album. I mean if they think people will be satisfied getting an album of 12 songs(I'm talking figuratively) and 1 song is a year old, think that would be a mistake. As for the other paragraph I agree. I guess I was coming off a little harsh. I guess what I meant was "momentum". Jake lost a lot of traction with that single. Even Days of Gold was better considering the timing of the album release relative to the single.

Not much info here, but Granger Smith's major label debut is expected sometime this spring. Monday's Billboard Country Update had a couple paragraphs about the success of "Backroad Song" (now that it's top 10 on both Country Airplay and Hot Country Songs), and Wheelhouse Records VP of Promotion Teddi Bonadies confirmed that it'd be a spring release. This was all that Billboard wrote about the album:
Not much, but at least it's something. "Backroad Song" will probably be a #1 hit sometime in early March, but it seems that that'll be a little before when the album is expected..

Artist: Granger Smith Album: Remington Label: Broken Bow/Wheelhouse Records Release date: March 4, 2016
After seven independent albums and with an assist from his redneck alter-ego Earl Dibbles, Jr., Granger Smith is ready to unveil his first major-label release that comes on the heels of his very first top-ten radio hit, "Backroad Song." The album, entitled Remington, will see its release on March 4, 2016.
Frank Rogers, known for his multi-platinum work with Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker, and Josh Turner has been brought in to produce.
“Frank’s a smart guy,” says Smith. “He saw quickly what we were doing and who we were speaking to, and he understood that. He said, ‘I dig what you’re doing, I like the way you’re building your business model differently, and I want to be a part of it.’"
“I have been a friend and fan of Granger’s for a long time,” adds Rogers. “He is honest, heartfelt, and down-right hilarious. I feel the sky is the limit for Granger, and I’m proud to be along for the ride.”
Remington track listing:
1. Backroad Song 2. Tonight 3. Remington 4. If the Boots Fit 5. Tailgate Town 6. Blue Collar Dollars 7. Crazy as Me (feat. Brooke Eden) 8. Likin' Love Songs 9. Tractor 10. Echo 11. Around the Sun 12. 5 More Minutes (GS Reloaded Bonus Track) 13. Country Boy Love (EDJ Reloaded Bonus Track) 14. City Boy Stuck (feat. Earl Dibbles Jr.) 15. Merica (feat. Earl Dibbles Jr.)

I hope the rest of Remington is better than the lead single because I quite like Granger's voice and music style. I'm looking forward to hearing the song with Brooke Eden, especially!

So is he getting money for calling his album that? With the r ball following, it makes me think that is in reference to the company.
