Glad to see Centuries so low but not Yellow Flicker Beat :( I guess my problem is I liked a lot more of the Alt songs from this year than others did.

107 "Gooey" Glass Animals Peak: #19 | Weeks on: 14*
Instead of talking about this song, I'm just going to paste some of its lyrics.
"While my naked fool fresh out of an icky gooey womb." "Right, my little pooh bear, wanna take a chance?" "You just wanna know those peanut butter vibes." "The jungle slang spinning 'round my head." "Mind my wicked words and tipsy topsy slurs."
Yeah, I think I've said enough.

106 "I Bet My Life" Imagine Dragons Peak: #4 | Weeks on: 12*
Night Visions wasn't a bad album, but there was nothing about it that justified Imagine Dragons' standing as the biggest band on the Alternative format in 2013. "I Bet My Life" continues to prove that, as it's probably the second-worst single they've released yet (no, it hasn't topped the sheer awfulness of "On Top of the World" yet). It sounds so disjointed, like the chorus is part of a different song than the verses. The chorus is pretty bad, by the way. Dan Reynolds' screams out the title over some squealing girl in the background, and it's just so overly bombastic that it collapses onto itself. The verses aren't bad, but they're just boring. Imagine Dragons seem to be setting themselves up for a sophomore slump.

105 "Left Hand Free" alt-J Peak: #2 | Weeks on: 21
The first time I heard the title of this song, I assumed the reason John Newman's left hand was free was because his right hand was being used to masturbate (y'know, similar to the broom rape fantasy of "Fitzpleasure"). The actual result was something far, far worse. I spent seven days without internet and when I landed back in New York, the first thing I did was check the chart action that I had missed. This little ditty had debuted at #30 and I hadn't even heard it yet. When I did hear it, I was instantly disappointed because I had grew to enjoy "Breezeblocks" and "Tessellate" in spite of their rudimentary lyrics and Sandler-esque vocals. Written as a throwaway track to piss of their record label, "Left Hand Free" never should have reached the top ten. But it became the British indie rock trio's biggest hit to date, and I still don't know why. It sounds so fake and phony.

Yeah, "Doses & Mimosas" was f*cking terrible. Deserves the bottom spot. Agree on most so far. "Habits" would be higher for me, but understandable considering this is for Alt, and "Best Day of My Life" would be even lower for me lol. "I Bet My Life" and "Stolen Dance" would be higher for me though.

104 "Riptide" Vance Joy Peak: #1 [7 weeks] | Weeks on: 38*
Another no-name nobody had a breakthrough hit with his first single, and like the others before him, their work isn't all that impressive. "Riptide" is a snoozer of a track that there's not much to say about it except for the fact that it sounds like a Mumford & Sons B-side that was passed down to his developmentally challenged Australian cousin. It's generic indie-folk without a purpose or direction.

103 "Thunder Clatter" Wild Cub Peak: #16 | Weeks on: 20
This is essentially the same song as "Riptide" if it were mixed with a little bit of Phillip Phillips' "Gone, Gone, Gone". More generic indie-folk that does nothing to stand out. I can fall asleep to this one as well.

"Thunder Clatter", "Riptide", and "Gooey" are good but "I Bet My Life" and "Left Hand Free" are rightfully down here.

I generally like indie but Gooey is one of my least favourite indie songs. It's too slow and the lyrics....

102 "Everywhere I Go (Kings and Queens)" New Politics Peak: #19 | Weeks on: 18*
I didn't hate "Harlem" or "Tonight You're Perfect", but they were far from the best hits of 2013. Flash forward a year later, and these great Danes are already hard at work preparing album numero tres. Titled Vikings, its lead single sadly is not a mashup of Hollywood Undead and 30 Seconds to Mars. No, it's far worse than that. The song is incredibly obnoxious, with equally obnoxious lyrics that could have come from any rap song of the last decade (smashing Lexuses and gettin' "higher than United" could have been from "Hot ***I'M RACIST***", for crying out loud). Rightfully flopping, one does have to wonder how it did so well out of the gate...

101 "One Minute More" Capital Cities Peak: #23 | Weeks on: 16
After "Kangaroo Court" and "I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo" rightfully flopped, I assumed that Capital Cities would never be heard from again, banished to the same wasteland that Chumbawamba and Primitive Radio Gods now reside in. But they were able to escape, just for one second, as they were given new life with a cut from the Iron Man 3 soundtrack that was tacked onto a rerelease of their sham album A Tidal Wave of Mystery. "One Minute More" showcases everything I hate about Capital Cities - annoying synths, overly jittery tone and boring vocals. Next...

100 "Weekend" Priory Peak: #15 | Weeks on: 16
Famous for being the song I criticized in front of the band members and suggested they spend their money on Pop instead, there's a reason why I disliked this as much as I did. The verses sound like some generic R&B jam that just continues to repeat the phrase "it's the weekend" over and over again over an annoying beat, and then the chorus comes and it does completely nothing. There's nothing about "Weekend" that makes it any better than your average indie pop jam, but there's lots it does that makes it worse.

99 "West Coast" Lana Del Rey Peak: #29 | Weeks on: 12
Tempo changes only work if they don't completely slow everything down, and "West Coast" manages to wipe away anything it has going on when the speed goes from 100 to 0 in a matter of seconds. It was already a pretty boring song, but as soon as the tempo change comes in, that chorus where everything goes at -10 mph ranks among one of the year's worst. It's not executed well at all. The rest of this song is a ballad of big nothing, and by the end I can barely even remember anything about it.

98 "Paris" Magic Man Peak: #33 | Weeks on: 10
A generic indie pop song that pretty much defined the main trend of 2014. Following in the footsteps of the blueprints that previous years had built upon, "Paris" isn't offensively horrible, it's just a nothing song and sits there, taking up wasted space. The synths are a bit overdone, but aside from that, it pretty much summed up 2014 in a nutshell. Side note: the first time I saw the band's name, I was quickly scrolling through and thought they were called Magic Mike, questioning why they chose to name themselves after a movie about a gay stripper. That story is more interesting than this snoozer of a song, though.

97 "Budapest" George Ezra Peak: #16 | Weeks on: 17*
Out of all the AAA crossovers this year has seen, "Budapest" has got to be one of the better ones. It's not as bad as an abomination as "Riptide" and "Stolen Dance" were. Then again, that's more a testament to how horrible those were than to how good "Budapest" is. Because "Budapest" is not good, not good at all. Ezra's voice gets grating quickly, especially when he tries to hit those higher notes and go "ooh-ooh". The instrumentation is pretty boring, featuring nothing but the strumming of his acoustic guitar and the beating of a tambourine. Minimalism only works if it's interesting. "Budapest" is not interesting. And Better Than Ezra are still a hell lot better than this dose of Ambien.

95 "Fever" The Black Keys Peak: #1 [11 weeks] | Weeks on: 26
For a band who managed to remain mostly consistent throughout the 2010s, Turn Blue was a massive disappointment. "Fever" is a good reason why; it's perhaps The Black Keys' most uninteresting single yet, and that hook gets pretty annoying after a while. The synth line backing it doesn't help matters. And eleven weeks at #1? Good God, talk about burnout...
