I've sampled this album like half a dozen times on iTunes. I Can't. Wait. For . This . Album. Just from the samples , this will easily fall near the top of my Best of list for 2015. I've had the demo versions of a handful of these for years like "Might As Well Get Stoned" , "Sometimes I Cry" & "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore" (though he has his work cut out on that one as his wife nailed that one). "Was It 26" has always been my favorite Charlie Danials song . "Whiskey and You" has been a favorite track as well and that blues version of "Tennessee Whiskey" sounds flat out amazing from the Opry Performance I heard. I know this is too good for country radio , but hopefully it can sell enough to at least recoup the money for Mercury. I too have been sampling the album like crazy. Doesn't seem to have a dud song on there. I agree the bluesy take on "Tennessee Whiskey" sounds phenomenal. I think outside of die hard music fans, Chris is not a known name yet (he will be). It's hard to predict his first week album sales. Then again, alot of his Nashville and music peers will probably be purchasing as well. I think the album will have growing sales numbers, and will be a consistent seller as the exposure and word of mouth goes around (i.e. Brandy Clark and Sturgill Simpson albums). Not to mention the sales spike this will have once all the award nominations are mentioned (MAYBE CMA, most definately Grammy I predict). May 4 can't come soon enough...

This has been at the top of my most wanted list all year and I can't wait to hear the album. I'd love nothing more than for it to explode like Sturgill and Brandy did without radio support. Then again radio support would be amazing but I'm not expecting it.

I've heard a lot of hype about him and want to check his album out even if it is not on Spotify in Singapore when it is released (several albums from Mercury, Valory and Broken Bow are not available on Spotify here in Singapore)

That was a tremendous performance, but what struck me was how taken Letterman was with the steel guitarist. I'm sure he's seen one before, he's had countless country guests over the years, but it was evident that he hadn't seen one featured to that degree any time recently. In related news, this is quickly becoming one of my favorites of '15. What Are You Listening To? was good, but I wasn't as enamored with it as some here. This song, on the other hand is fantastic. His voice, the fabulous steel - everything just comes together perfectly.

"Traveller" is the 6th most added song on MB this week with 21 first week adds. Yep. A nice start for a song that might scrape Top 40 but given current climate, that may be all it does.

I believe, at least in my mind, this is the greatest album I have heard since Jason Isbell's Southeastern. Very surprised to see this many adds especially with the climate of radio that is shifting to a point where I will be longing for the days of FGL soon.

After listening to the album "Parachute" strikes me as the best fit for today's radio climate. If it was up to me I would not have touched "Traveller" as my first single unless the thought is this simply has no chance at radio (which is the most likely scenario)

I still think a top 40 finish will be hard to come by but 21 was more than I was expecting. I knew a handful would add this one but 21 is a great number. As much as I enjoyed "What Are You Listening To?", I like "Traveller" even better.

I actually heard this twice this weekend on WMZQ in Wash DC. It sounds so good on the radio. Quite refreshing

The adds this pulled in were a bit surprising, but the charts are overloaded right now, so we'll see how this winds up doing. Pulling in 21 adds though is a solid start.

Pulling an all-nighter (it's finals week) and...I JUST HEARD THIS ON KMLE!!!!! I am absolutely stunned. Granted, it's a spin at 3:30 in the morning, but at least they're playing it.

WOW! This guy is special. This is break through material in my mind. What a unique vocal talent and the song should do very well at country radio.

If you haven't checked out his album Traveller (which just came out yesterday), I'd highly recommend it. All the songs are well-written with intelligent lyrics, and it's traditional country to the bone. And of course Chris Stapleton's voice is simply incredible. Here's audio for the track "When The Stars Come Out": www.youtube.com/watch?v=4laaHlLBYdkAnd for "Tennessee Whiskey", a George Jones cover: www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zAThXFOy2cThe song "What Are You Listening To" was his official debut single back in 2013, but it was left off the album. www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_pPsmPFT4EOr you can just listen to the whole album :) It's available to stream for free on Spotify (see this thread).

^Thanks for that article sabre14 It's nice to hear that Chris is getting the attention he deserves. Perhaps he could have the same (or bigger) impact that Jamey Johnson had with his 2008 "That Lonesome Song" album. Maybe Chris could be the one to shake things up for country. After all, the genre is suffering from a complete lack of identity, and I believe that country needs a "Nirvana" moment (someone to shake up the system). If there's anyone who I believe could do it, with the right amount of support that is, it's Chris, Sturgill Simpson and Brandy Clark. Also, is it true that Adele is planning to incorporate "country" elements into her next album? If so, that could have a huge impact on country as well, letting an outsider switch up the genre

If this record is ultimately successful, with sales and accolades, radio might notice and then sign on to help keep the tastemaker status.

"Traveller" appears on the Billboard New and Active section this week with a 925k audience total. Just 330k in audience away from Billboard's #60 song "Hit The Road" by Waterloo Revival.

I think "Traveller" will end up charting. It got 4 adds this week, including KRTY in San Jose (#36 ranked market) and WKIS in Miami (#11 ranked market). It was just 112k in total audience from charting two weeks ago.

While the album picks up critical acclaim and likely CMA/Grammy nominations along the way, I see the song just rolling along through all of that.

I don't think this can reach the top 40 in the end but making a solid appearance on the charts will suffice for me. Mercury has promoted this album and single flawlessly and a slow climb for "Traveller" is definitely the final piece to their efforts.

In order to do that, "Traveller" needs to increase its total audience by 4x as much; that's a tall task. We'll see though.

I was driving on Sunday and listening to a little tiny station out of South Dakota...they were playing a syndicated show, something called New Music Nashville I think, but I'm pretty sure it was recorded a long time ago because the hosts kept saying to look for the new albums by Kacey Musgraves, Easton Corbin, and Canaan Smith due out at the end of June, that Alan Jackson would have a new album out sometime in July, and that Luke Bryan's next album was rumored for an August release.
Anyway, they played "Nobody To Blame" and introduced it as the first single from Traveller. And what's funny is that "Nobody To Blame" got its first add on Mediabase yesterday (WSIX in Nashville).
We'll have to see if Mercury intends "Nobody To Blame" as the follow-up to "Traveller". I doubt radio will play Chris all that much (he's too country and he doesn't sing about trucks, beer, and hot girls), but I still think "Parachute" is their best bet to get even a little bit of airplay. "Nobody To Blame" is also pretty great though -- definitely a classic country song that would have been fit right in at radio during the 90's and even much of the 00's.

I think his performance tonight on Late Night with Seth Meyers will be telling. If "Nobody to Blame" gets the call over "Might as well get stoned" I think that's your answer
