This album gets better with every listen.
Currently loving "Hard Feelings"
"I care for myself the way I used to care about you"
Ugh.
This album deserves all the critical praise is getting. I hope she gets a commercial smash too because this album is so good.

She issued a formal apology regarding her "auto-immune disease" comment.
In other news, this album goes SO HARD. Such a vast improvement over Pure Heroine and I LOVED that album.

This album is incredible. I was so lukewarm on Pure Heroine, and this is a clear step up. "The Louvre", "Liability", and "Supercut" are the standouts to me. I don't know if she's actually going to get a hit out of any song on here, but the album she created is an excellent piece of work.

You don't typically get a spoken word chorus and an instrumental outro in a song on a pop album, but here it works in a beautifully haunting way. I can envision the dance on So You think You Can Dance already.

'Perfect Places' has been getting played on the radio here in Australia. Sounds so good.
A week later, I'd say 'Perfect Places' is still my favourite but 'The Louvre' and 'Homemade Dynamite' are also getting played a lot from my phone. I'm also falling in love with 'Green Light' all over again. I just can't get enough.

I cannot stop listening to this album. It resonates with me so strongly; the record captures exactly what I've been feeling over the last two years.

I cannot at how good Supercut and The Louvre are. After Green Light I completely expected to dislike the album, but it's really good. Way better than I thought

I like every single song on here and favorites keep changing! It does not help that I take a commuter train to work so I can just sit back and sink into some music! Seriously love this album!!!

What kind of Tori Amos homage is Writer In The Dark?? That's exactly what I thought when I heard that song! As for single choices, I think "Supercut" and "The Lourve" are best bets for a pop hit (if that's what they're aiming for). I would love to see "Hard Feelings/Loveless" become a single (as it's my personal fav), but I doubt it'd do much on radio.

New Zealand charts: #11 Perfect Places (up from #36) #12 Green Light (re-entry) #13 Homemade Dynamite #18 Sober #24 Liability (re-entry)
'The Louvre' and 'Writer In The Dark' just miss the Top 40

What kind of Tori Amos homage is Writer In The Dark?? That is what I wrote some days ago on one French forum: mais ici, ses chansons ressemblent les chansons de Lana Del Rey (Hard Feelings), Fiona Apple (The Louvre) et Tori Amos (Writer in the Dark) ou meme Adele (Liability) though as you can see, I found other songs to be 'hommages' too

This is a perfect illustration of when I say I don't care what your numbers are if the album ain't shit! I don't care if Lorde sold 1k or 110k because this album is like a touch or two away from genious. It hits on everything from songwriting, mood, cohesiveness, emotion vocals (albeit not always the best vocals) she has a way of painting a picture with her voice and delivery. Lorde is needed. Lorde is wanted. I hope she cakes at the Grammys
She is now two for two with me regarding her projects and that means she has my undying respect going forward.

She is up to a 92 on Metacritic now. CRITICAL DARLING QUEEN. I need to see her live again and this time, I need to be conscious.

Been too busy since release to give this a proper listen but WOW. Although I do think that in parts it sounds like she's doing a Bleachers pastiche (not hard to do with her typically wordiness and Jack Antonoff doing all the songs except Homemade Dynamite) it's definitely the same Lorde from Pure Heroine but with a much more nuanced and mature feel. I rarely feel like concept albums work but you can actually FEEL the concept as you listen to the album straight through. The exuberant buildup of the first 4 tracks and then BOOM the party stops and she realizes nobody she was having so much fun with were actually her friends at all and the descent of the second half of the album exploring this profound isolation until Perfect Places where she just kind of resigns herself to life just being this constant cycle of buildups and heartbreaks, parties followed by solitude. Just a skillfully woven together body of work.

I'm a big fan of this album. In fact, I've almost had it on repeat for a week now. But I think there's a problem with getting many of these played on the radio. I think Sober, Homemade Dynamite, The Louvre, Sober II and Perfect Places, all have problems with heavy lyrical content and/or sound effects that most radio stations (particularly pop ones) aren't going to want to touch, whether they be real or misinterpreted. That pretty much leaves only Supercut as viable, I think. Just my take on it, and maybe why Perfect Places isn't receiving much airplay. Homemade Dynamite particularly has no chance.

Honey I just can't like put this album away. I constantly need to keep listening and exploring different meanings to different songs in all my different moods. I may not have found the man I was meant to be with but I definitely found the music I was meant to have!
This awkward bitch is perfect!

I'm starting to realize how much Hard Feelings sounds like a 1989 track. Like if it was before "Clean" on 1989, it wouldn't sound out of place at all. That's not a bad thing, though.
