List your top 10 favorite Grammy winners among the big 4 categories - Album, Record, Song, and New Artist. Mine are below, and I note when I would have had a different winner.
Album of the Year
1. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauryn Hill
2. Faith - George Michael
3. Jagged Little Pill - Alanis Morissette (wish there was a tie between this, Daydream, and Relish! Terrific line-up that year)
4. Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder
5. Thriller - Michael Jackson
6. The September of My Years - Frank Sinatra (The Beatles' Help! would have been deserving, too)
7. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac
8. The Joshua Tree - U2
9. Speakerboxx/The Love Below - Outkast
10. 21 - Adele
Runner-up - Tapestry (Carole King)
Record of the Year - I actually found this category to have the worst winners overall.
1. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" - Roberta Flack
2. "Somebody That I Used To Know" - Gotye f/ Kimbra
3. "Rosanna"- Toto
4. "Higher Love" - Steve Winwood
5. "Moon River" - Henry Mancini
6. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon & Garfunkel ("Let It Be" would be my pick)
7. "Don't Know Why" - Norah Jones
8. "Just the Way You Are" - Billy Joel
9. "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" - Green Day (one of the better line-ups; all are strong)
10. "Rolling in the Deep" - Adele
Runner-up - "Not Ready To Make Nice" (Dixie Chicks) I guess. Honestly it was a struggle to make a top 10; not a ton of winners I truly love.
Song of the Year - This category surprised me; overall it's surprisingly strong apart from the late 80s and early 90s.
1. "Moon River"
2. "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (hard to pick between this and "Let It Be" and wish they had split Record and Song)
3. "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"
4. "Always on My Mind"
5. "Every Breath You Take"
6. "Tears In Heaven"
7. "Streets of Philadelphia"
8. "You've Got A Friend" ("Help Me Make It Through The Night" would have been just as deserving if not more)
9. "The Way We Were"
10. "Killing Me Softly With His Song" (I would have gone with "You're So Vain" but it's a solid group of nominees)
Runner-up - "Just The Way You Are" (Billy Joel)
Best New Artist - For a category that's supposedly cursed, there have been some legendary winners.
1. The Beatles
2. Mariah Carey
*Objectively those two have easily had the biggest careers in music of all the winners.
3. Sade
4. Sheryl Crow (Green Day would have been just as deserving to me)
5. The Carpenters (Elton John should have won and would be #2 or #3 in my top 10)
6. Carrie Underwood
7. Toni Braxton
8. Better Midler
9. John Legend
10. Natalie Cole
Could join my top 10 fairly soon - Adele and Zac Brown Band
