This was the first single from his sophomore album, "Kaleidoscope Dream." It is written and produced by Miguel himself. It was initially on his "Art Dealer Chic, Vol. 1" mixtape. It got such a positive response that RCA decided to put it on the album and release it as the lead single. It peaked at #17 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and stayed on the urban AC charts for over a year. I actually wasn't crazy about this at first, but now, it's probably my favorite R&B song of the decade (so far). He's going to be eating off of this one for years. I've heard people say that it was the "Sexual Healing" of our time. I know it's still pretty early on in his career, but I don't see him ever topping this. It's absolute perfection.

It's a fantastic song. It brought back a quality to R&B that was really needed. I remember being impressed it stayed at the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop chart for so long. I hoped it would signify a turn in radio being more receptive to R&B songs again...

^ It was nominated for "Song of the Year" I believe as well.
I wasn't crazy about this song at first but I love it. It's so refreshing to hear a real R&B male vocalist.

I actually liked "Do You..." more than this, but this is still superb. Really, Kaleidoscope Dream is a masterpiece. Not a single bad song from it.

He won the Grammy for Best R&B Song for this I think. Right and he should have won Best R&B Album. The Grammy wanted to spread the wealth that year, too bad we couldn't get that same treatment this year. Edit: The bridge made me love love this even though I overplayed with the original.

It's a timeless song. I couldn't get enough of it that year. It still amazes me how well it performed on the charts. There was no R&B song like it at the time. I imagined it sounding out of place on the radio. After the extended version was released the program directors (Urban/Urban AC) refused to let it die. It's one of the best songs of the decade.
On another note, this is the only song that spent a full year (consecutive 52 weeks) on my chart. It's an accomplishment compared to the other long-running songs that fall off and re-enter multiple times.

I really liked this. I was very impressed by how it managed to sound so traditional, but so modern at the exact time. Its huge success surprised me as well, especially since it happened simultaneously as Mainstream Urban was taking a hard aggressive left (there was a week where this was #1 on R&B while Pop That was #2, which illustrated this well).

I slept on this for awhile intially, not really knowing who he was, etc. I saw it on the charts, but didn't bother to listen. Then one day during its pop radio run, it clicked and I'm a big fan now. Super solid and timeless, although I prefer How Many Drinks from that album in terms of singles.
He's probably got 3-4 of my top 100 songs from this decade.

It’s #16 on Adult R&B recurrent chart this week. IMO it’s the best R&B song of the decade. I hate to admit but I was sick of this song after a couple of months because my Urban AC station KJLH Los Angeles would play it out.
