With Mutt Lange at the producer chair. Maybe this band can be worthwhile for the first time in the career.
Otherwise, hopefully this stays faar away from Active.

Unfortunately it was created by a fan from the Muse subreddit who decided to make it available in MP3 form only, so I can't post or link to it here. it's not official audio, so you can link it here Going to address this here... MP3 links are not permitted here in any fashion, as stated here: So samz2 was correct in stating that he couldn't post it here. If there's a question about this or any other of the Pulse rules, please feel free to contact staff directly. :)
Having said this, carry on!

(*cough* Dead Star*cough* Stockholm Syndrome*cough* Assassin*cough*) Note: I will readily admit that this was just an excuse to post "Dead Star" somewhere. God, I love that song.

You realize Uprising, Madness, and Panic Station all went top 40 on active right? And from all accounts, this should be more rock-friendly than all of them...

Mutt Lang is a one of the best producers ever. Def Leppard - Hysteria, Pyromania, The Cars - Heartbeat City, AC/DC - Highway To Hell, Nickelback - Dark Horse. As well as Bryan dams, Foreigner and now Muse. Definately gonna buy that Muse album now.

Agreed. Mutt Lang is an underrated producer. He's produced some real gems over the years. Can't wait for this album (and this single) to drop.

Note: I will readily admit that this was just an excuse to post "Dead Star" somewhere. God, I love that song. There is no such thing as too much Dead Star! The live version is immense. In the meantime, Dead Inside has been listed in iTunes (not yet available for purchase) with a length of 4:23. Suspect we may see a Radio Edit.

4:23 need not a radio edit IMO.

I believe Madness received an edit from the 4:39 studio track.

I believe Madness received an edit from the 4:39 studio track. There was a shorter radio edit, but I only ever heard the full version on radio.

Well, not exactly the sound I was hoping for as a Muse fan, but I didn't like Madness either and that worked out quite well for them on the charts.

After my first listen I like Psycho better. I thought it signified a return to a heavier sound but this was back to the synth filled-Madness sound. At least this one has audible drums. I'd prefer Psycho to get the inevitable 10+ weeks at #1 over this, but I'd prefer this getting those weeks over something like Believe. Should be interesting to see what the #1 slot looks like a month from now.

Okay, some quick thoughts...
If "Psycho" was for the old Musers, then "Dead Inside" is the bridge for the new Musers, the song that helps ease those newer fans into the album itself. I can totally see why people would prefer "Psycho", just as I can see why people would prefer "Dead Inside". As a fan of 80's music and as a fan of this particular era of the 80's, though, I'm in love with this. It sounds almost like it was ripped from an early-80's Queen album. It's not what I expected, but Muse has a habit of leading you one way and then swerving you down another path.

Love it! Not as much as "Madness," but I'm satisfied.

Remember when they said that this album would be a "return to roots" without any "electronic bullshit"?

Remember when they said that this album would be a "return to roots" without any "electronic bulls**t"? And this is why I always like to remind people that you can NEVER trust Muse at their word, because their tongue is always firmly in cheek. Matt Bellamy trolls more often than an actual troll living under a bridge.

I like this a ton. Every era of Muse has brought something definitively new to the table, and always done extremely well, in my opinion. Love "Psycho" but that's really just more of the Muse everyone already knows. "Dead Inside" is not. It reminds me of "Infected" by The The in a lot of ways, most notably in their opening structure, the timbre of their percussion, and the constant use of dissonant electronic noise, and it's hard to make a song that reminds me of The The and not come out a winner in my book.
I think the song is a little too against the grain for it to score 10+ weeks at #1 though. It'll do well because it's Muse and all, but I'd expect a shorter chart life and quick 2nd single.

"Psycho" is better in my opinion as well. Honestly, I'm not sure how much I really like this one. It doesn't sound original enough for me. I definitely hear the Depeche Mode influences and some of you may want to shoot me, but I've never really been a big fan of them.

Not the biggest Muse fan, but I did like this. Kind of reminds me of "Panic Station" which I really liked by them. Not sure what everyone else was expecting, this sounds about right for a new Muse single, at least to my ears.
And for the record, Depeche Mode is a 100x better than Muse.

Honestly, this was more instant for me than "Psycho". Love those synths.

I love this. Almost as instant for me as Madness was. I'd love to hear something more like Starlight on the album, though. That song has always been my favorite of theirs.

Alright, so this is definitely better than "Psycho", but I like both for different reasons. I really think people need to get off of the "heavier = better" bandwagon, but at the same time I fully understand why some people here like, or at least claim to like "Psycho" more. I'll point out the elephant in the room here...I think people wanted "Psycho" to be the actual single because it's heavy, and would go #1 on alternative on the back of being a Muse lead single, and its impact could potentially be that it MIGHT help boost other heavy songs/acts as well.
I really get it, and I actually kinda sympathize with anyone who feels that way, but I just think this is an all-around better song and a better single choice. A 26-year old guy I work with has been an absolute diehard fan since their Origin of Symmetry days, and even he prefers "Dead Inside" to "Psycho". He likes both, but he thinks "Psycho" is essentially just a generic and heavier "Uprising", and is nowhere near what "classic Muse" is regardless of whatever Matthew Bellamy claims.

Overall, I don't mind the sound. It just is kinda flat throughout. The only thing memorable about the song is when he says "dead inside". It instantly kinda grabs you at the beginning but then, nothing.
