Here's a topic to start listing stations that "flip the switch" to all Christmas, including the dates.

WLTW has already been advertising for weeks now that "on Thanksgiving, it becomes Christmas!"

I'm not sure when WLIT will flip to Christmas music. Since 2002, they've made the switch the Saturday before Thanksgiving, but in 2001, the first year they did the all-Christmas thing, it was the day after Thanksgiving, since that year, Turkey Day fell on the 22nd, which was the earliest it can be. Personally, I don't care which week they start it anymore, since they don't run any special shows (well, shows that I care about anyway) that would be pre-empted by the holiday format.

100000watts keeps track of stations that go all Christmas (although last year they claimed at least one station in my area went all Christmas when it didn't). AC station KOSY Salt Lake City-Ogden-Provo may be the first big market station to go all Christmas when it changed. web.yes.com/station/KOSY

Yep, here's KOSY's website. They have flipped the switch as of at least 11/2/06 (probably yesterday as EvanJ noted). www.kosy.com/main.html

I *hate* all that Christmas music.
The only good thing about it is that it clears the AC chart of all the songs that have been on it for 52+ weeks plus.

I sure hope that the new R&R AC chart doesn't have a whole buttload of Christmas songs on it in December, but, seeing as they're owned by Billboard now, they probably will.

I hope to see a buttload of Christmas songs on the chart, cause that'll cause a recurrent purge and really clean up the chart. PLEASE R&R! ALLOW CHRISTMAS STATIONS NOW!!!

94.9 Lite FM in Atlanta is having a "sneak peak" weekend for Christmas music. They played the holiday version of Delilah's show last night and this weekend they are playing only Christmas music. They will switch back during the work week. Last year they did this too and ended up "flipping the switch" the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I hope you're right... and don't get me wrong, I love Christmas music, but honestly I think the only place for "all Christmas, all the time" is the shopping mall, not the radio... I think the "right" way for radio to get us in the Christmas spirit is to give us some Christmas music and to spin more and more of it as we get closer to Christmas Day. If you want to be "all Christmas all the time" do it on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I'm sure I'm getting close to that time annually where KOST 103.5 loses it's preset status in my car... December 24th though, it will return as it does every year.

I agree with John. You got to be kidding! It won't cause much of a purge in the Top Ten. Possibly not even the Top Fifteen. Instead, the bottom half of the chart will be cluttered with Christmas songs, causing songs that might have had a chance at AC radio to be forgotten.

Several songs hit recurrent early last year as a result on BB's chart. It caused songs that normally wouldn't do to well to get a bit higher. Enya's Amarantine only peaked at #18 on R&R, but thanks to the Christmas recurrent purge, the song reached #12 on BB.

I hadn't really given that a lot of deep thought, but I guess there's probably a bunch of other songs with similar stories... and IMHO it definitely adds more fuel for the argument that stations playing "Christmas only" need to be monitored on a separate chart until they go back to "normal" music.

KOST 103.5 here in L.A... made the flip at 9:51 am yesterday... last "real" song appropriately Rascal Flatts' "What Hurts The Most"... On my way home from work, I noticed something "funny" when I flipped by there...
Buh bye, KOST... see you in a month and a week!!! Fellow Crap Channel property, KBIG 104.3 (gasp) will get some time as a preset... unless I find something better or some station decides to flip to Country in the interim...

I think WRVF just switched completely this weekend, which sucks, as it was a new station that started to support the recent Madonna single.

Are there a lot of AC stations that don't switch?
And when did it become so common for stations to do this? I don't remember it being like that in the 90s. Now it's common for a new holiday song to top the AC chart, but that didn't really happen in the 90s ("AIWFCIY" peaked at #6).

AC has really poured it on. Seems like only about 10 stations went to xmas, now I checked the recurrent chart, Burl has moved to #2, Bobby #4, Nat King #5, Brenda #8, Bing #9, Johnny Manthis #10. They jumped on, hang around in the 400s or so, now they jumped way up. All xmas songs should have top 10 on gold by the next few days

The a1R gold chart has Christmas songs as high as #43 with Burl Ives.
