My favorite part was the random labels at the end for the different knives (and the "cheater" chainsaw, which she clearly doesn't even bother to clean after using). So far I have caught "dead beat dad," "left the toilet seat up," "ugly" (damn, just straight up beheading?!), and "f**ked up my credit" but my screen isn't big enough for me to zoom in on the others. I think I saw a "BBHMM" on one of the labels. Oh I thought that one went without saying that's the one she sliced up her accountant with. Someone should go check on her (former) accountant and his significant other, btw. Just to make sure they're still breathing.

I... that was disgusting. Scarred. Where is Stay 2.0??? :'(
I'm also confused. It's been 7-8 hours and it is still up, with multiple nude shots and gore, yet a) it doesn't have an age warning and b) is still up. I believe Blurred Lines was taken down quick, and The Summer Is Gonna Hurt had an age warning on a half second ass shot pretty quick.. #49 on iTunes

This video was obviously created to stir up some controversy/buzz for what has become a rather off era for Rihanna.

The preview itself had a TV-MA/language/nudity/violence warning attached to the beginning of it (and that warning was also on the full video); that was plenty fair warning IMO.

Put me in the minority of people who don't like the video. What a twisted video. If I wanted to watch gore and violence, I'd rent a rated R movie.

I'm right there with you. It's not the gore and violence that gets me though. This whole era just seems to be her trying too hard (to appear like she doesn't give a shit) and it doesn't feel authentic at all. She's gone the raunchy route before that seemed more natural, this just doesn't. But maybe I'm wrong. Either way, it's not for me.

This video was obviously created to stir up some controversy/buzz for what has become a rather off era for Rihanna. She was talking about this video months ago. When she was interviewed and asked about "who is the bitch you're referring to in the song?" she said "Wait for the video", implying that plans for this video were solidified LONG ago. This isn't some video she scrambled to put together at the last minute just because the peanut gallery thinks her "era" is dying. She's been doing what she's wanted to do since FFS dropped, and she still is.

Eh. The video felt very “omg look at how dark, edgy and controversial I am!!!” to me. I don’t know, I guess I feel like being controversial for controversy’s sake isn’t necessarily all that interesting. Like, sometimes I’m genuinely moved or shocked by a video/movie/book, but if I get the sense that the artist is just desperately trying to appear all edgy and controversial then it often leaves me cold.

LOL @ the YTs of the Internet that beat off to those early Rated R days calling this try-hard and unauthentic. This is probably the most unfiltered we've ever got her from what she wanted to do originally to the final product. If you actually know about her life, there might be some very clear references in this video.

this song feels much bigger than its chart position. everyone around me know this song n everyone go ape shit in bars when this comes on, especially those thirsty white people, while the black crowd look at each other n like wtf lol the song obviously has made an impact. American Oxygen should've had never happened, they shouldve pushed this hard on pop, its catchier and more pop friendly than her previous urban singles like pour it up and birthday cake.

You should watch the short film "Dawn," directed by Rose McGowan, for comparison. Now THAT is something that is genuinely shocking and horrifying instead of this try-hard video

The video is impressive, but if she was going down that route she should have hired a director that made the MV more like a short movie. I love the idea of the video, but it could have been much better with another director. It needed to feel more genuine.
One thing is for sure, it has high replay value. It will surely keep her the #1 vevo artist for another year, at least. Its cool to see that the popularity of vevo, and the money they make from vevo, is causing the top vevo artists to spend a lot of money on their music videos. I'm guessing Katy is also likely going to return with a very expensive looking video.

I also would have liked if it was longer. Rihanna has never given zero fucks about what people think, whether it's shock value or not. From the We Found Love video to the Birthday Cake remix, to getting back with Chris during Unapologetic, to the ruthless draggings in Twitter. Rihanna doesn't go out of her way to cause controversy and be talked about like other artists. She is just who she is and refuses to be anything different; which is why people are so fascinated with her. When will people learn this?

You're forgetting that Wolfy thinks EVERYTHING that EVERYONE does is VEVO motivated (it's even referenced in his quote above) so it's not even anything personal to Rihanna (I don't think at least?)

It could have been much better. The potential for the video was endless. Still, compared to other music videos, the video looks excellent. I just tend to have high expectations for music videos. That said, the more I watch it the more I love it!

You're forgetting that Wolfy thinks EVERYTHING that EVERYONE does is VEVO motivated (it's even referenced in his quote above) so it's not even anything personal to Rihanna (I don't think at least?) Taylor swift herself said she made more money off vevo than spotify. You're sensationalizing things by saying "everything." I said that the money they make from their music videos is causing the top vevo artists to spend more money on their music videos. That's very specific, not "everything." The popularity of vevo is surging. Taylor was making more money off vevo than off spotify, so with the surge in views, she likely doubled what she was making. They are making millions off vevo which is why they are willing to spend more on their music videos. Rihanna, being the #1 vevo artist, is making more money off vevo than anyone else. The money she makes gives her a big budget for her videos. That's why I mentioned it.

Rihanna is the leading director though.
I'm sure that Rihanna loves the persona she represents, but she definitely likes to push buttons. I don't think it's coming from a place of "I'm going to get X many likes if I do this!" though. It seems to come more from a place of "I'm a mega pop star, this is what excites me, and this is what I'm going to do."
