Are there any fans on here who have liked them from the very beginning and like their new musical direction? I'm curious. I have loved them from the beginning and am not thrilled about their new music. Yeah, I definitely feel that way myself. I liked "Little Lion Man" and loved "The Cave" and "I Will Wait", but "Believe" didn't do that much for me, and while "The Wolf" is definitely an improvement over "Believe", it seems like M&S is veering away from their distinct sound and is focusing more on mimicking the sounds of others. That's a shame, because M&S had their own distinct sound before this era. I do like "The Wolf", though. I'm just not a big fan of the direction M&S is heading toward right now.

Sounds like a Kings of Leon single. Not bad.
I'm all for them rush-releasing this if this means "Hollow Moon" can squeeze in a week at #1.

I have loved them from the beginning and am not thrilled about their new music. I've listened to Babel and liked it for the most part. Not an avid fan, but I like the new direction, as well as their old ways. See, I LOVED Babel to death. I wonder if there is anyone who loved Babel and likes their new musical direction.

Are there any fans on here who have liked them from the very beginning and like their new musical direction? I typically like stuff that's more energetic and "The Wolf" sounded great as it is different than any of the other past singles, but is it better than songs like "The Cave" and "Little Lion Man?" I can't decide. Those are classics and they mastered the modern day folk sound much better than say Imagine Dragons did with "I Bet My Life" or American Authors "Best Day of My Life" in my opinion. I think if they continued on the same route, they wouldn't be able to beat the classics, so I like the new direction as it's something different.

I think if they continued on the same route, they wouldn't be able to beat the classics, so I like the new direction as it's something different. This right here! I'd like to add, I love SNM and Babel, but I think in some aspect (writing, instrumentation, etc) you have to eventually change it up. It keeps things interesting to me, but I know some who prefer bands stay the same forever. SNM had some of their best songs, but I think Babel was a smoother listen start to finish. I'm excited for this third album to be something new. Even if I don't end up liking it all, I appreciate the change rather than a rehash of Little Lion Man. M&S have made quite an impact on this half of the decade. They helped popularize folk and it trickled down to everyone, albeit in water-downed versions. I don't understand the flipping out about M&S having an "original" sound then and not now. They didn't invent folk. They made it accessible but there's hardly anything original about them (and I say this as a huge fan). I prefer The Wolf to Believe. It's not the instrumentation that bothers me but I wish they would keep it edgy. The Wolf is more of what I was hoping for.

Some bands don't or ever have to change if they get it right the first time. ex: The Cars. Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, AC/DC, Queen, just to name a few. This band seems to be getting right the second time around, so this would be a good example of ;change, being a good thing.

Music video due out tomorrow. I'm surprised they didn't give Believe a video. That's the crossover hit to be.

I'm surprised they've pretty much left that in the dust and just went straight to promoting this once "Believe" went #1 and was still rising. Kinda weird actually.

Yeah, especially since Believe is still rising up Hot AC and is ready for a pop push. The Wolf is cool and all, but it's pretty well alt-only. However they are obviously UK-first, so perhaps over there The Wolf is better suited universally or something, who knows?

It takes a little too long to get going to keep Pop listeners attentive (unless a radio edit cuts like half the song, which I don't see happening).

Music video due out tomorrow. I'm surprised they didn't give Believe a video. That's the crossover hit to be. Completely disagree. The Wolf is so much more immediate than Believe. I think The Wolf is definitely more geared to get some pop crossover. Them completely ditching Believe when it was still rising is weird, though. I guess they want The Wolf to be the song that gets the push from their album release, but then why didn't they just release it as the lead single?

I totally agree on this being more immediate and being a way better choice for the lead single. It really showcases the electric side they've been talking about and more-so than "Believe" did. But I disagree on this being a pop crossover more than "Believe" is. This is a little too heavy for Pop, but I'd love to see it happen. I don't see either crossing over, but that's just my opinion. "Lampshades on Fire" is trying to cross over, so who knows though.

Very good song. I like this more than "Believe", which I also thought was good. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing this at #1.

They were awesome on SNL! The Wolf performance was better than Believe. They rocked it out on the Wolf. I am liking this better than Believe although I like them both. After reading a few articles about the album, this may be their sound going forward. It will be interesting to see how many folks jump off the bandwagon and how many jump on.

I'm enjoying what I've heard from this album a lot more than the stuff from Babel though. 'Believe' is pretty good, this is great.

I don't mind a live version of the video if the performance is anywhere as visceral as it was on The Wolf. I was whiteknuckling it all the way through and half-expected Marcus to drop dead from exertion at the end. Unbelievable. I loved both their debut and Babel. Babel has Lover Of The Light, which is my favorite of theirs thus far so I will ALWAYS stan for that album. I Will Wait is also great and then, there is the hushed beauty of Ghosts That We Knew. Whoops, almost forgot about Lovers' Eyes and Below My Feet. Yeah, perfect album. I have a feeling that this new one will be ever better though. They are not done setting my heart on fire.

I like this, but they shouldn't rush it. I think Believe could do alright on Pop, as long as there was a remix (which I pray there isn't) or a radio edit. I think this would only have crossover potential if Believe did something on Pop.

This is a fantastic song, miles better than Believe. Their new direction is weird to me. I understand bands evolving over time but it feels like Mumford has ditched their distinct sound and abandoned their identity.

This is a fantastic song, miles better than Believe. This feels to me like it has much more lyrical substance to it - Believe almost sounded to me like half a song, or a good introduction to a song, or maybe even a bridge
