It's because stations are still playing Homegrown Honey 400 times a day and not giving this one any room. Or maybe that's just mine. Or maybe it's that this song is a boring lazy list song that says the same thing as 4 trillion other songs. Or all of the above. Yeah because we all know redundancy in lyrics and theme is frowned upon by Country radio.

Growing up, before I lived there for 2 years, I loved songs about it (Buddy Jewel's being my fav). It seemed magical and everything was slower, and friendly and better. Now, I just don't get the appeal. Maybe I am a cynic now and see the things happening in the South that aren't all great. But whatever it is (maybe it's like you said too... just the same lyrics reworded over and over again) I just don't like these kind of songs much anymore. And I bet I would have 15 years ago.

Bummer. "Southern Style" is finished. It lost 133 spins and over 300k in audience today (170 spins and over 500k in audience over the past two days).

Wow. I'm really surprised and terribly disappointed that this one bombed. I would've thought that he'd at least make it to the Top 20. He's never really flopped this bad before (since "Miss You" wasn't really promoted and they pulled it), and this one was so radio-friendly. What a shame. :'(

Add me to the list of folks who are extremely disappointed that his best single since the downright wonderful 'It Won't Be Like This For Long' isn't doing substantially better on the charts, making this easily and most definitely among the most disappointing chart runs of 2015 IMHO.

Too country for 2015 I guess. I really like this song. That's too bad.

Goodbye to "Southern Style" as it has gone recurrent on Billboard and now Mediabase as of this morning. Wonder if Capitol will release a 3rd single from Southern Style or take a break and come back with stronger material down the road??

Yeah, I'm curious to see where they go from here. It seems like a shame to stop the Southern Style era here but at the same time, I can't see a third single being a good idea if something as hit-worthy as the title track stalled out in the 30s. Very disappointed by the outcome of this.

I'm honestly not surprised at all this underperformed. It was just way too sleepy and uninteresting to get me to pay attention to it, which says a lot because I feel like Darius has one of the more captivating voices in the genre. I also didn't care for "Homegrown Honey" at all though, so I'd love for this era to be over and done with.

His voice is indeed wonderful but some songs which get stuck in the bottom 10 on CT40 eventually can't get out of first gear and wind up going away, and this wonderful song is merely the latest to do so.

I don't think there's anything weak about Southern Style, the song and the album. The problem I think is Darius is making real country music in a time where real, genuine country music isn't the popular thing to do. If Darius wants to have radio success, he needs to release more contemporary material. Homegrown Honey is certainly the most contemporary song on the album in my opinion. Plus the lyrics are borderline bro so I think that certainly helped too. If he wants a successful single he needs to release something more contemporary. I think You, Me, and My Guitar and Lighter Up fit that category. I love Darius and his music by the way I'm not bashing that. I think it's a shame that radio won't play this song.

^^^^^Absolutely stone-cold spot-on analysis that I agree with 100%; whomever coined the old phrase 'the cream always rises to the top' had no premonition of how abruptly country radio would start to deteriorate when several bro-country acts and the inevitable imitators came along, which has resulted in standout tunes like this going nowhere even after months on the charts.
Thank goodness that country music from the 1990s and 2000s is still very prevalen & plentiful at both Go Country 105 and KFRG throughout LA & OC.
Looking forward very much to the next single from Mr. Rucker, unquestionably among the format's steadiest artists IMHO.

I think he should release a ballad next.

I think he should release a ballad next. So given the current climate at radio where stars like Dierks, Jake Owen and Little Big Town have trouble with ballads charting, you're recommendation is to release a ballad to follow up a song peaking below the top 30? Not saying your wrong, but I just don't see that helping, especially when most of his singles catalog is absent of ballads.

So is Bro-Grown Honey still in power rotation in anyone else's market?

I'd love if he released "So I Sang" or "You Can Have Charleston" but I wonder of they'll not choose "Good For A Good Time" instead. Another song of note is "Baby I'm Right" so maybe they go the mid-tempo duet (with Mallary Hope) route.

I'd like to see "Perfect" get released next, but I honestly don't see any other songs on the album being a big hit.
