Tyler has been receiving some critical claim for his voice this time around, especially on this song, so I don't understand where the weak vocalist comments come from either. I can understand if you don't like his voice, but overall he's a very good vocalist.

I don't understand it either, because I'm just as confused that people think this guy is a gifted vocalist as y'all are that some of us think his voice is bottom of the barrel. /shrug

Yeah its all just opinions & of course subjective but Yikes! I like rough voices as in Chris Stapleton , Travis Tritt, T. Grahm Brown etc etc. but Farr's voice goes way beyond rough. His voice brings to mind a daily breakfast of battery acid & razor blades..... and just generally soulless . I would put him about a half notch above that Gilbert fella , who is just fingernails on a chalk board to me. 15 years ago , neither of these guys would have come within a 100 yards of a major label recording contract.

Outside of David Nail, Chris Stapleton and Brett Eldridge, I don't think any male in the genre has superb vocals. If the song is good, the vocals don't much matter to me. After listening to the new Jake Owen this morning and all the other new releases of the past couple weeks, I feel like this is the stand out song amongst them. I think this is going to be huge.

They are I mean I like Tyler's new album but his voice is polarizing and to me it's a little to rough to like. Blake's voice is great too bad he sells himself short :'(. Dierks just yeah he's leaps and bounds better than Tyler he conveys emotion so effortlessly. Eric he just sounds real committed to his material. Oh here's more that are head and shoulders better. Eric Paslay Jon Pardi Kip Moore Keith Urban. There's no way you can argue Tyler's better than any of these guys. Case Closed!

Actually I think Tyler is just as good as all those guys with the right song except Keith Urban. I like Dierks Bentley on studio recordings but he's not much better live than Tyler Farr vocally, at least from the shows I've seen. You might as well face it, we don't agree on this but I respect your opinion and at the end of the day it's all personal preference.

Tyler has been receiving some critical claim for his voice this time around, especially on this song, so I don't understand where the weak vocalist comments come from either. I can understand if you don't like his voice, but overall he's a very good vocalist. It seems to me that most of the attention Farr is receiving for his voice is the by-product of a major talking point advanced in his promotion of his new album -- the fact that he is a classically trained vocalist. The talking point has done its job in making me reconsider the way that he sings as a choice instead of a reflection of his limitations, but I don't think it follows that Farr's choices are the most technically or interpretively sound choices he could make. With respect to "Withdrawals," I think that Farr fares pretty well on both grounds and that the gravel in his voice adds to the tension of the song. But I would love to hear any of the writers singing the song. I can imagine a Gordie Sampson vocal being a pretty good template for Farr's version, but a Josh Kear or Hillary Lindsey version would have a very different feel, I bet. I agree with sgtoddball that the country genre doesn't have a lot of superb male voices -- I agree with him on Chris Stapleton and David Nail being two exceptions, and would add Josh Turner and Chris Young as two others. As much as I like Eric Church as an interpreter and performer, it's rare that he stays on pitch for a live performance, so I'm not inclined to rate him above Tyler Farr as a vocalist. I do buy Blake as a stronger vocalist than Farr on technical grounds, but I don't know if I would consider him a better interpreter. I certainly prefer Dierks Bentley and Keith Urban as interpreters who have learned how to use their voices. But as noted before, interpretive skill and tone are largely subjective considerations, and I think the discussion about vocals are bound to go in circles if we try to argue that someone can or cannot sing on such subjective considerations. Better, I think, to couch discussions of those subjective considerations as expressions of our individual preferences.

This is definitely my favorite single of his career so far. I think the production skewing more toward country-rock than traditional country supports Tyler's raspy voice. My favorite parts are the verses. The heavy drums kick in with some pretty descriptive lyrics.
I'm not crazy about the chorus though; it gets a bit repetitive and ends without packing much of a punch.

I'd give this one a 7/10, the lyrics are interesting (to me). However it feels like a weak follow up to "A Guy Walks Into A Bar". I live in Northern Minnesota and Tyler's music has been on some heavy rotation for some time around here, both "whisky" & "a guy" are on the radio all the time up here, I imagine this will get popular and do the same. On a side note, has anybody ever heard his song C.O.U.N.T.R.Y.

Music Video coming to VEVO on June 15th!!!
Source: I was about to watch Kacey Musgraves's "Biscuits" and saw the advertisement for "Withdrawals" coming June 15th from Tyler Farr.

That was a really good video. I loved the editing and shots used. Tyler himself was pretty impressive as well, especially the underwater shots.
Also, "Withdrawals" looks to be the third most added song on MB this week, behind Keith and FGL.

I'll give him credit where it's due; that was a good music video. Still not taken with this song, but it's at least better than his last single which I could do without ever hearing again on the radio.

I've seen my fair share of typos and misspelled words in R&R, Aircheck or Billboard over the years. The latter called Thomas Rhett's "Make Me Wanna", "Makes Me Wanna" at the start of its chart run. You should call them and let them know of their error, lol.

I even made the spelling error with "Withdrawals" when originally posting. It's just another example of quirky English spelling.

Honestly.. I HATE the video. It honestly kinda disturbs me. I get being upset over a breakup, but that was just.. psychotic almost. The camera work was decent, but the general storyline was just bad IMO.

This video is really good, totally different than any other video any guy is making out there today. I still love the song and hope it is his biggest hit to date.

Lightening = The sky is lightening up (as in, it's growing lighter). Lightning = the bright stuff that precedes thunder. It just drives me nuts, people who can't spell "lightning" right. There is no "e" in lightning!!! Anyway, back on topic.. Honestly.. I HATE the video. It honestly kinda disturbs me. I get being upset over a breakup, but that was just.. psychotic almost. The camera work was decent, but the general storyline was just bad IMO. The whole point of the video was to show how deranged/crazed (aka, psychotic) this man (Tyler) is feeling inside after a really bad break-up. :) Psychotic seems to be what they were going for, lol. I...absolutely love it. I think Tyler and the director and everybody involved did a really great job. I like how they chose something physical (the glass cube and the water) to represent the severe emotional pain that he's going through on the inside, and then at the end how they zoomed out from the close-up shot of his eye -- I found it all superbly filmed and edited. The pain is all inside of him. He's a total wreck. And Tyler did a great job at portraying just how tormented the guy in the song is.

I've seen people misspelling this song as "Withdrawls" since its title was first revealed. In fact, I remember seeing it that way enough times at first that I thought it was intentional and that the song's message was going to be something about how country/southern guys say things ... "with drawls."

I like the song (despite the production) and video. His voice does grate a bit so I would like to hear his material sung by someone else but I really appreciate the subject matter of this and his prior single.

Really disappointed that this one hasn't been able to chart yet. I know the charts are jam packed right now, but I thought this song had enough buzz around it to weather that storm (Billboard has already had an article about it). It's also odd that despite his most recent album selling nearly 3x the amount that A Thousand Horses debut album did, A Thousand Horses new single was able to chart almost immediately. I'm not going to hit the panic button yet, as it's way too early for that, but part of me is wondering if this song will be too dark for radio, much like "Bourbon In Kentucky" was. Hopefully Tyler can debut this coming week, but I'm not sure because I don't have access to his daily updates right now.

Don't worry Tyler is a lock next week to get in he and Clare Dunn are both locks to get in. There'll be 2 recurrent songs Tim and Casey. Tyler was close next time don't be surprised to see him in Monday Night. How far the song goes is anybodys guess.
