Embarrassing numbers for Mariah. This is lower than Ciara! O well. Not really. Ciara has an album full of NEW songs. This is Mariah's 3rd "big" compilation set. As I noted in the post above--most of her fans already have #1s (3.8 million sold) and the greatest hits (1.2 million sold). We also have both versions of TEOM and bought the singles individually. What more do we need? And from all of those records, I can make my own itunes playlist. We can just buy the infinity single. So this is not a surprise.

The 9,000 TEA/streaming figure for Underwood's album equated to 9,000- if "Somethin' in the Water" sold notably less than 90,000 for that particular week, then the sum would include all of the album's previously released tracks' sales for that week (streaming numbers are a lot smaller than TEA). It sold 125k its first week out, I can't imagine that several months later it was still selling/streaming the equivalent of 90k in a week. Correct. The track sales & streams from that week explain its 9k bump in SPS: SITW finishes this week with 560k sold. Also, Roughstock posted final numbers. Taking TEA sales into account with SITW's 30k sold, the final numbers for CUX1's debut on the SPS chart is 102,000, staying at #4. With that, she's now surpassed the studio album opening total of Blake Shelton's BRINGING BACK THE SUNSHINE earlier on this year, which came in at 101k. Pretty sure she's in the ranks of the 10 best Country album openings of the year, only behind FLAGA, Aldean, Church, Lambert, and Chesney, I want to say? Not entirely sure on that, but wow. She killed it. Sold 30k that week and streamed what was worth an additional 60k or so, I guess?

Carrie Underwood only has to scan another 155,000 to get a million sold (platinum because it is a double disc).

Mariah has had #1's, Greatest Hits, Playlist, The Essential Mariah Carey and now #1 to Infinity. Why would anyone think that this compilation would sell almost what her last STUDIO album sold first week?

A studio CD would have been better and a fourth quarter release at that.

So many people going nuts for Twenty One Pilots. The songs I've heard (four so far) have all been incredible though. and being able to sell 140,000 units with no radio hit or really any public promotion is incredible

Mariah's numbers are around what I would expect.
Good numbers though for Twenty-One Pilots.

I don't see how anybody is saying Mariah's numbers are low. I'm a fan but why would I buy an album with songs I already have. She already has 3 or so greatest hits out.

Why would anyone think that this compilation would sell almost what her last STUDIO album sold first week? Don't forget The Ballads ;) so #1 To Infinity is actually her 6th hits compilation released in the U.S. (not counting The Remixes.) 1.) #1's (1998) 2.) Greatest Hits (2001) 3.) The Ballads (2009) 4.) Playlist: The Very Best Of Mariah Carey (2010) 5.) The Essential Mariah Carey (2012) 6.) #1 To Infinity (2015)

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6575694/twenty-one-pilots-number-1-debut-billboard-200Twenty One Pilots Flying Toward No. 1 Debut on Billboard 200 Albums ChartMay 21, 2015 7:07 PM EDT Twenty One Pilots is soaring to a likely No. 1 debut on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart. Industry forecasters suggest the duo’s new set, Blurryface, could move over 120,000 equivalent album units in the week ending May 24. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, May 27. Blurryface is the follow-up to Twenty One Pilots’ Vessel, which has sold 261,000 copies according to Nielsen Music and peaked at No. 58 on the Billboard 200. Notably, the sales of Vessel have been quite a consistent seller since its release in January of 2013, which indicates the act has been steadily accumulating fans. That is in contrast to how some albums earn the bulk of their sales in a short burst of time -- like in the first few weeks or months of release -- which could indicate limited fan reach. Vessel has sold more than 1,000 copies per week since its release, but never sold more than 11,000 copies in a single frame. (On average, it has sold 2,000 copies per week.) Other albums heading for significant debuts on next week’s Billboard 200 chart include Zedd’s True Colors (around 30,000 units) and Brandon Flowers’ The Desired Effect (25,000).

Embarrassing numbers for Mariah. This is lower than Ciara! O well. this is Mariah's umpteenth Greatest Hits with only 1 new song as an addition. Instead of saying, "How embarrassing," I want to know what figure you had dancing in your head in which this would be considered a "success." This. Let's not forget Greatest Hits peaked at #52 on the Billboard 200 and has gone on to sell over a million copies. I see this release as damage control and part of her transition into a legacy act. Because of this and the Vegas show, there are a ton of articles coming out about her legacy and her impact on popular music, and Mariah nostalgia is in full gear on sites like Buzzfeed and social media. The focus needs to shift away from whether Mariah, in her mid-40s and 25+ years into her career, is still able to score more #1 hits and generate multi-platinum albums to the impact she's had on music and to "the nostalgia". The way she's going to be most successful now is by capitalizing on that and using it to promote shows like the one in Vegas and the annual Christmas show, not trying to compete at radio with acts who weren't even born when her first album came out.

Yes. Mariah is still relevant among my friends BUT her new songs not so much. There's lots of ways to be successful, not just radio hits and downloads.

Mariah is definitely over now. So is Madonna. So is Britney. Is there anyone left from the 90's who isn't over? Justin / Beyonce Justin and Beyonce weren't solo acts in the 90's. And it's easier to survive for groups, and specially if they are not pop, there are genres like rap or country that are less ageist than pop too. And people who write their own songs generally survives better than people who totally depend of others. Madonna survived because she was able to go ahead times (not anymore), Mariah is a great voice but her style went out style long time ago, the r&b infused diva with a big voice was big in the 90's but not anymore, and Britney is a big star, but let's be honest she is marginally talented, so she depends totally of the people surrounding her, which lately are not very inspired

Britney Jean didn't do well, but the album before had three significant hits and also scream and shout was a smash. Work bitch wasn't huge but it still was a top 20 hit that sold a million units . That isn't over to me. I'd give her a few more singles before we deem her unable to have strong success again
