I might need more time with this one. After a few listens, I'm still not quite on board yet. I don't really dislike this, I just find it underwhelming. I loved Onyx and I think the material on that album is much stronger than this.

Yeah... I don't really know what to think of this one as well. It's not bad. It's just not very good after two listens compared to the rest of their material. I'm hoping the rest of the upcoming album is better.

I think they are a hop, skip and a jump from going full on pop. The reason I say that is because this sounds like a song Nickelback would send to Pop or Hot Ac, if they had written it? It has a "When We Stand Together" vibe. but whatever. The rest of the Rock world seems to love this song. Top 20 in its first week. me? I'm still in the "Trenches" about a download, but I have to admit It's growing on me for that same poppy quality.

This is like the first different thing they've ever tried. I feel like everything up to this was either a power ballad that woulda been a huge pop hit in the mid 00s, or a song that sounded like Limp Bizkit and Saliva morphing into some super rock and rool in yo face badass wahteveryoucallit.

^I can't argue with that, and while I'm not high on this song I can appreciate them trying something different. They've said in interviews that they were heavily influenced by Kid Rock, growing up in Michigan and all.

^Yeah, a little bit.
This has grown on me a lot. I usually don't like Pop Evil, but this song is great. I don't know what's been up with me lately--liking Pop Evil and Theory of a Deadman songs, listening to all the post-grunge I loved in the ninth grade...rock and rool revival?

Anyone else hear "Country Song" in the chorus? Now that you brought it up, I hear a bit of CS in the chorus too.

It's just not typically my type of music (which usually consists of emo-influenced indie rock, a la Sunny Day Real Estate, Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, etc. and instrumental post-rock) so it's just weird for me personally.

La Dispute and mewithoutYou are bands similar to Manchester / Brand New that I think you might enjoy.

Yeah, I like mewithoutyou. I've heard a little by La Dispute, but I need to listen to them more. I've always found them a little too dissonant for my taste, but I'm willing to give them a second chance. Do you like O'Brother? They're pretty cool. Sorry if I'm cluttering this thread, by the way. This discussion would probably be better on General Rock discussion instead of on the Pop Evil thread

I was not expecting that. I figured Shinedown would show up in the alternative top 50, but this is surprising.

Top 50 on Alternative: 55 48 POP EVIL Footsteps 133 127 6 0.26 Yes, you read that right. All we need is the new Scorpions to chart and we can start calling this the Alternative chart again.

None of the singles of "Onyx" touched Alternative iirc Actually, if you count "all the stations" i.e. the ones Mediabase doesn't consider on the panel, "Trenches" nearly reached the Top 40. But yeah, through the published stations, none of them cracked Top 50. Also, YES at this popping up on Alternative. I won't hold my breath, but I'll hope this goes Top 40.

Honestly, I could care less. Song isn't horrible like Deal With the Devil was, but out of all the songs on Active, why this one?

Is this in a commercial or anything? The melody sounds sooo familiar and I'm pretty positive I've never listened to this before.
The way I look at this band is, they don't make bad songs, they just make uninteresting songs. Of the singles that I have heard from them, I don't recall any.
