One of, if not the best mainstream country song released this year. I have no clue how it will do for him...I honestly hope it turns into a career type of song for him. "Riser" (the album) hit that perfect unique niche of saddling the line between commercial appeal and critical acclaim. This song is the perfect way to close out the era and could be a big hit if radio allows it (which the jury is still out on IMO)

Yes! This is hands down one of the best songs released to radio in years.
I'm also already going to predict that Dierks will be your next CMA Male Vocalist winner later this fall. This song should easily help him solidify his support for that honor.

I know Dierks had to fight tooth and claw to see this song get to radio and I couldn't be happier for him. I'm not overly optimistic about "Riser's" chart run but a respectable peak with solid sales is what I'm hoping for. Also, it absolutely had to be carriekins starting the "Riser" thread. Wouldn't have had it any other way. :)

I like the song, but I'm worried about the release. I really hope they're prepared to promote this one heavily, because I don't want to see Dierks lose any momentum. I'm thinking it will have similar success to "What We Ain't Got" and "She Don't Love You". Would have preferred "Here On Earth" over this though if they wanted to release a very serious song.

All of this. Here On Earth is way too deep for radio, but Dierks had the momentum to at least let it be heard. Riser is very good as well, but as a 5th single its hit prospects don't seem much stronger. Still, it's obviously a very personal song for Dierks, so good on him for pushing for its release.

I'm very happy to see some love for "Here On Earth" as of late in regards to the Riser album. As good as the title track is, "Here On Earth" is my favorite song on the album. Agreed that it would just fly over the heads of radio.

This could flop ala Bourbon in Kentucky, or become a career hit for him.
Love the song, but can't say I'm not a bit nervous for it.

Good for Dierks for staying true to himself. That's a success in itself. Hoping this will be a hit but it will take a while.

OK, everyone, I see the concern about radio's reception to this song, so here's the plan. If by its fifteenth week charting "Riser" hasn't sailed into the top-30, we'll start a whisper campaign about how radio's hesitating to play it because it's promoting the climate change agenda ("This old world is cold and getting colder"). As the campaign makes its way through the blogosphere and to Bobby Bones, we'll make sure everyone is aware of the availability of "Riser" wristbands on Dierks' site, along with the designated hashtags. Once the controversy erupts, presto bingo, smash! Seriously, though, I had very much hoped that "Riser" would be a single, and it's the perfect one with which to wrap this album cycle. "Riser" strikes me as more anthemic than "What We Ain't Got" and "She Don't Love Me," which ought to help it play better than both of those songs at radio (I would think, anyway). "Here on Earth" (another of my favorites from Riser) has that anthemic feel too, but "Riser" is uplifting in a way that may make it an easier sell at radio. "Riser" is also a song that captures Dierks as an artist -- contemplative and grounded, determined and hopeful -- it fits Dierks' "brand" more than "What We Ain't Got" fit Jake's, so that might help facilitate earlier public acceptance. As for promotion, the song lends itself to placement on any morning show segment about overcoming any kind of personal struggle, to those human interest stories about athletes that TV often covers, and to ads for a particular kind of primetime show (say, where the imperfect hero returns from the depths of a fall), and so I hope that Dierks' team and the song's publishers are at work there. As already noted in the "Say You Do" thread, Dierks will no doubt perform this when he plays Good Morning America in late June, and he is touring this summer. As long as "Riser" survives the summer, it sets up beautifully for a peak in the fall, when it should work even better on radio playlists. So I can agree that Dierks and his team will need to be on their promotional game to harvest the good will that this single generates and help it snowball into a big, perhaps unstoppable, wave of public support. But much like "Girl Crush," it's the kind of song that would actually deserve it.

I dig it and I know most everyone on Pulse wanted it released, but I feel like "Five" is a better song for radio and one I enjoy more anyways.

I was hoping for "Sounds of Summer" as the next single but this song was a close second choice for me. I figured it would be the next single though since he performed it at the ACM awards.

You nailed it, get this in commercials, ESPN sports stories, shoot a meaningful video that breathes new life into this and he's got himself at least a top 5 hit! Hope we get a new EP here at the end of fall like "Country and Cold Cans" to hold us over til his next album!

Hope we get a new EP here at the end of fall like "Country and Cold Cans" to hold us over til his next album! I wouldn't expect an EP. This tour will end in September, and assuming radio embraces "Riser" at all, it will take us well into the fall/holidays to support Riser, and (God-willing) get it to Gold status. Dierks has already been documented as having recorded 9 songs for the new album, so I would expect him to hit the road in January '16 and debut new music then, much like he did with the Locked & Reloaded tour in 2013, with a new single hitting in February (?) '16. Re: "Riser" I just need radio to support this. It is SO important to Dierks, so I'm happy it's being released, but it is TOO GOOD to suffer the fate of BiK (which was also too good but whatever). The timing *just* makes CMA awards eligibility, so I am hopeful for a calculated Song of the Year campaign (though I laugh at the actual thought of him winning because yeah right), and I am generally hoping this song cuts through the mediocrity that is out there now. Fingers crossed. That's all I've got.

And the reason I have been MIA is because I am back home in Iowa for a couple weeks, and I just so happened to be at that very concert where Dierks said "Riser" was coming next

I like this song a fair bit. While I don't expect it to be huge, Dierks has had enough momentum lately that I'm hopeful for at least a top 20.

Man, I hope radio embraces this. I certainly expected either "Five" or "Sounds of Summer" to be the next single, but if this was the one that Dierks wanted, I'm happy he pushed as hard as he apparently did for this and it is a fantastic song. I still say this was the best album of 2014, award shows be damned.

Sent to radio today. I think it's safe to say that we can use the art below as the single art for this release (so it's not just used as the pre-release holder). Dierks's team even trademarked the imaging.

Amazing song, I really hope it does well. I also love "Here On Earth" – it gives me chills every time I hear it. It's hard to believe that we're talking about such great additional songs from an album that has already produced high quality singles such as "I Hold On", "Say You Do", and "Bourbon In Kentucky". Album of the year.

Super disappointing decision not to give this song an actual video treatment. Hmph.

Will this live version be the official audio for the single? I prefer it with the original version on the album. Oh well, yes, it's disapointing that they didn't release a new video for this.

Will this live version be the official audio for the single? No. Live videos happen fairly frequently but the studio version is what you will hear on the radio.
