Was Kingdom Come done in the same session as Black Widow? i swear this song sounds like the poor cousin of Iggy and Rita's smash

That moment towards the end of "Father" was incredible, but that's really it in terms of 'moments' on the album. I can't tell you how any of the tracks between "Cool for the Summer" and "Father" go now. I'm not sure if we're listening to the same album. How are there not moments in "Stone Cold," "Kingdom Come," and "Lionheart"? Especially "Stone Cold." Sorry, I wasn't clear with what I meant by "moment." You're right, she hits a great note in "Stone Cold" towards the end, but I was trying to talk more in terms of memorability. After a couple play-throughs, everything is still blending together for me, and while I like each of the tracks individually, as an album it's very one-note.

Kingdom Come has the same beat as "Turn Down for What's" beat before the drop, and then the drop is basically Black Widow.
But honestly im surprised by iggys verse

How are there not moments in "Stone Cold," "Kingdom Come," and "Lionheart"? Especially "Stone Cold." I partially agree with say selena's review, and I think the cohesion is the slight drawback here. Demi starts almost every song on 75 and turns it up to 100 by the first chorus, so after a while all the 'moments' start to not jump out at you right away; the album is one long plateau. Her vocals are beyond amazing throughout and there's not one song that I dislike on this album - it's probably her best effort, for me - I just wish she would have given a few softer moments/played with dynamics more to balance it out. 'Loud' is an apt descriptor, especially on the songs with really heavy production. Maybe placing Wildfire and Stars in different places on the album would have broken it up a bit? Favorite songs so far: Old Ways, Wildfire, Lionheart, Father (Good LORD), and Stars (which should have made the standard - I'd love for this to be a single). I admittedly have not listened to Kingdom Come yet. Not an Iggy fan so it's going to take me a while to psyche myself up for it. Demi said she recorded Stone Cold with the Grammys in mind but I actually think Father would be the track that jumps out more in that regard. It's her Because of You moment.

That's what I really appreciate about Demi. She serves VOCALS and EMOTION. Those are two things that are essential for me in a singer. Otherwise, just have an instrumental album if you are all about beats. From what I can tell, she even has strong production on this album so I am sure I will love it in full. I love her live performance of Stone Cold that I watched/listened to. I guess I will have to download the two bonus tracks. I still can't get over the fact that the deluxe is $17 dollars in stores, while the standard is $10, LOL. Outside of Corin, I don't know anyone that stans for Demi hard enough to spend that kinda money. I can't wait to buy this so I can chime in with specifics but for now, I will say that I'll take cohesion over patchy and filler-filled albums anyday.

I agree with a lot of the criticism people have put forth, as well as the positives.
I tend to love big songs, in your face songs, loud songs, so it's a good album for me. I appreciate that I can tell she SANG her heart out in the studio. However, a lot of the songs DO follow the same song structure... while it's cohesive, I think it is a little too repetitive. There's no intro to any song besides confident, the verses are super quiet and then there's a huge explosive chorus followed by a super subdued verse and then some breakdown after the chorus. I wish there were more songs like "Two Pieces" ... can she record "Two Pieces" as a duet with Nick Jonas?
The album is a LOT more "trappy" than I expected. And the order of the songs makes absolutely no sense. I had the album on random and liked the random order better.
"Confident" is good. I like it. It's very different for radio right now, but It's been doing well. Not what I would have chosen for the second single but I think it'll do well for her. I don't think it's very representative of the album sound-wise though. Most of the songs on the album have a subdued verse, this has a subdued chorus and huge verses (which I think works well for this song). 8/10
"Cool for the Summer" is different but I like it a lot. Interesting choice for a lead single, but it worked out well for her I think. 9/10
"Old Ways" is very different for me, the second verse sounds off but it's supposed to. I like the "i'll just keep changing these colors, colors colors colors" part. It's been growing on me a lot though.
"For You" starts off so well, but the chorus is all wrong. ALL wrong. This song could have been so much better. It should have been just her singing "I get nothing at ALLLLLL" because that part is freaking awesome. I love the bridge, verses, post-chorus... but the chorus is all wrong. Maybe it will grow on me. 6/10
"Stone Cold" is freaking awesome. What a showcase of vocals, tone, and emotion. Not something I'll listen to every day, but it's good. 9/10
"Kingdom Come" needs to be the next single. I wish there was a solo version though, and I wish the breakdown after the chorus wasn't there (Not because I dislike it, because it sounds EXACTLY like Black Widow). Then again, this feature is way better than the one on the next song... With Iggz, 7/10, without her it would be 10/10 my favorite song.
"Waitin For You" this song basically tries to be "Kingdom Come" but doesn't quite make it. I feel like both were written at the same time and they took the worse lyrics and stuck them with this song. It's pretty meh for me. And the feature is... not good. 4/10 if there wasn't a feature, I would probably like it a bit more, but like 6/10
"Wildfire" I actually like this song a lot. It's far more subdued than anything else. It's nice to hear her do some falsetto. But I hate when songs say "Like a _______" just to get a song title. I think they could have done the same melody with "you're a wildfire" and been a bit more visual during the chorus. But that's just a personal thing with songwriting and song titles. Aside, this is another one of my favorites, I think her voice blends perfectly with the production. 9/10
"Lionheart" is going to be a fan-favorite I think. But the way she sings it can be a little off-putting, so I don't see it being a single. I like the way she sings, but she sings it differently than she sings anything else. It's like she's trying to be an opera singer on some of the big belts on the chorus. 8/10
"Yes" feels a bit out of place on the album. Should have been a bonus track. 6/10
"Father" is a great album closer (for the non-deluxe version). Definitely not something I'll listen to all the time, but I love hearing her sing with emotion and conviction, which she does whenever she sings about her father. And the end is a religious experience. 9/10
"Stars" is... the most unexpected song. Without the post-chorus breakdown it would be a LOT better, but still sounds like it's a Kesha song. It's so out of place I can see why it's a bonus track. It fits with the "big chorus, breakdown" format of several songs... but the breakdown is bad. And it's SO out of place. I don't know what else to say. The breakdown ruins it for me. It doesn't suit Demi at all. 5/10
"Mr. Hughes" is an interesting choice and I can see why it's a bonus track... but it could have come right after "Confident" because the horns, and sounded a little more cohesive. 7/10
Here's how I would order the songs Confident Mr. Hughes Cool for the Summer Kingdom Come Old Ways Wildfire Stone Cold Waitin For You Lionheart For You Father
Yes Stars
Singles 1-CFTS 2-Confident 3-Old Ways 4-Kingdom Come

SIT ME ON YOUR THRONE! Wait... even though it's a clear "Black Widow"/"Heavy Crown" clone I will still use "Kingdom Come"

The comparison I hear with Kingdom Come is actually Chandelier.
I think I understand the criticism with the cohesion of the album. It suffers greatly from its tracklist as someone pointed out earlier. It didn't occur to me until just now when Yes came up on shuffle and it sounded 10 times better than when I heard it in the album. I think if it was rearranged better the tracks would stick out more to a person who listens to an album in full. I tend to only do that once, though, and then start moving around and shuffling everything into my playlists, which really helps me familiarize with the individual tracks, so I'm not really affected by it, but I do know a lot of people like to listen to albums in full.

I love this album. I think it could be her best yet. Old Ways should be the third single followed by Wildfire, For You or Kingdom Come

I enjoy this, Lionheart especially with those deep strong vocals on the chorus. It kinda gives me Celine Dion and I also really like Mr. Hughes, Amy Winehouse homage anyone? I like a lot of the songs. Getting some R&B and Pop life this autumn.

I really hope "Stone Cold" does not get overlooked as a single option. It's a catchy ballad that showcases her vocal talent splendidly. It can actually work on radio too towards the end of the album's run.

Can I just say I absolutely loveeeeeee this album?!?!?! #QueenDemetria has done it again!!! <3
The only tracks that didn't impress me on first listen were "For You" and "Yes", they were just okay. I absolutely love "Confident", "Cool for the Summer" (obviously), "Old Ways", "Stone Cold", "Kingdom Come", "Wildfire", "Father", "Stars", and "Mr. Hughes"!!! I enjoy all of the others! ("Waitin For You" and "Lionheart")
Easily one of the best albums of the year for me. The vocals #slay, and there are plenty of hooks on this album to satisfy my top 40 taste.
Ideal singles: Cool for the Summer Confident Stone Cold Kingdom Come Stars/Old Ways (optional 5th)

I generally like big vocals, but Demi dials it to 11 way too often. This album has some good songs, but lacks dynamics.

I'd love to see Wildfire become a single or at least get a video. The lyrics/production sound like something that Halsey would've done on Badlands.

I find this to easily be my least favorite album of hers. Cool For The Summer is easily the standout track. I do like Stars and Father though.

Listened on the train en route to my friend's apt. Well...it is no secret, Demi can SING. I mean...her voice is like a gale force. I definitely agree with the criticism that she should have scaled it back a notch because she has a pretty falsetto and sometimes, I am a bit perturbed by her affected pronunciation (what's with everyone wanting to sound like Sia/some old vamp from yesteryear) but I agree with critics: this is easily her best album. I actually like the cohesion. I also like the production a lot. Right now, this gets a solid B+ for me and it may go up when I listen to it on my home speakers. It sounded great on headphones though. Homegirl stays hitting dem notes that most pop singers only dare dream of hitting. Confident sounds great as an album lead-in and Cool For The Summer actually gets better with time. Old Ways is HOT and Father is just...wow.

The album grew on me SO much listening to it today.
The first 6 songs are solid.
Wildfire and Lionhearted are fantastic also.

I dig the vocals on 12 lol...especially on Lionheart, it's like a force of nature. That song followed by Free Fallin' by Tamar is an awesome combo in the same key.

Her best album by a mile. I mean, tracks 9-12 could've been left out and I wouldn't have been mad, but even with those it's easily her most consistent. What the f**k kind of Amy Winehouse jam is 'Mr. Hughs'? Drag me Demetria. Favorite songs so far: Old Ways, Wildfire, Lionheart, Father (Good LORD), and Stars (which should have made the standard - I'd love for this to be a single). At first I was kinda shocked these were the standouts for you (or anyone), but breezing back through them I could hear any one of these songs on Kelly's last album, lmao. Personally, the singles-- God, 'Confident' grew on me-- 'Stone Cold', 'Waitin for You' (queen of R&B, when will Mary?), and 'Mr. Hughs' make the album. Nothing else touches those.

Nah really, I didn't even consider any similarity to Kelly (other than the Father/BOY comparison), rather I got really strong 2002 Christina teas from a lot of it. It's almost like a sledgehammer of vocals.

There are some passable pop songs here, but her music, in general, is just so generic to me. No originality whatsoever. And as I said in the "Confident" thread, there's still something about her music that's Disney-ish, no matter what she does. AllMusic gives the album 4/5 stars: Entertainment Weekly gives the album a B+ (and they put it together with a review of Selena Gomez's album):

About half of this album is usable. That's definitely an improvement over her past albums.
Iggy Azalea absolutely RUINS "Kingdom Come." Like it drops three whole letter grades because of that buffoon. Holy sh*t she is such a terrible rapper, I hope a solo version drops at some point.
