I wasn't saying those artists are lesser or mid-range. I was saying the singles by all those artists all jump over other singles from lesser or mid-range artists. It doesn't even matter where they debut; singles by artists like Kenny, Tim, Carrie, etc all jump a ton of spots over the first 3-4 weeks they're on the chart. Oh, I see what you're saying. But as I've said before, I don't think it's wrong that those artists' songs jump spots, it isn't "unwarranted" (that was the word I used), since they have large fan bases and people who want to hear their songs more than the "lesser artists". I just think the degree to which this song jumped is disproportionate to his fan base. His fan base isn't 3x as large as Kenny's, Carrie's, RF's etc. I completely agree with wamufan's post.

I could very well be wrong on this, but I don't see him dropping below #4 or #5 next week. Sadly I don't see it dropping below #5 either.

He got over 10 million in audience that day since it was the first day of airplay - the average #1 song probably gets about 5 million a day.

I look at it like this: There's only two songs in the top 15 from "lesser" or "mid-range" artists (Luke Bryan and Jason Michael Carroll). I would say that there are rarely more than two singles by lesser or mid-range artists in the top 15. So would it really make that much of a difference if it took Garth another 1-2 weeks to pass those two songs? The other 13 songs that Garth passed in the top 15 are all by artists who have had a ton of success.

So why would his airplay decrease from one day to the next (last Monday to Tuesday)? Only one day and the song is already losing airplay? Hmmm........

I don't know why I'm still reading this thread, let alone posting in it. I'll bet this happens with Tim's debut singles as well. It happens with all of the major artists. Stations play their songs once every hour for the first day. It even happened to Because Of You, but on a much smaller scale.

Not even the #1 songs get 10 million in audience a day. Garth got 10 million that day because many radio stations were playing it every hour/every other hour. Although some stations continued spinning it every hour for the rest of the week, most did not continue to do that.

Why did radio hold out on their audience?

The recent lead singles by Kenny, Carrie, and Rascal Flatts all had their biggest day the first day they were released. Then their gains started decreasing. The same thing has happened with Garth's new single - nothing new.

I can see the road ahead and it's going to take us straight back to what has already been discussed in great detail. I have gone from treating this topic like a tent stake to a casket. The question is, why?

The question is, why? Well explain to me how Garth could have continued to gain 10 million impressions a day?? In one day, he earned almost 1/3rd of the panel. In 3.5 days he would have gained more audience than the #1 song, had he gained 10 million impressions a day..

Well, I wasn't going to do this, but what the heck.... Well explain to me how Garth could have continued to gain 10 million impressions a day?? In one day, he earned almost 1/3rd of the panel. In 3.5 days he would have gained more audience than the #1 song, had he gained 10 million impressions a day.. (Slaps forehead.) That was my point. I was asking a rhetorical question. I still maintain that if he loses spins next week, it will speak volumes about his debut week. When was the last time a blockbuster artist actually lost spins the second week?

When's the last time ANYBODY debuted at #1?? This isn't a precedent, so you can't base it on history; therefore, we should all be anxiously awaiting what happens on week two, regardless of how he got to #1 on week one.

Why do they even have midday updates on Mediabase if nothing changes? Also why do they update Sunday night if nothing changes?
Rascal Flatts, Carrie, and Kenny all got around 4-5 million AI in the first day and all finished between 12-15 million by the end of the first week so they gained 1/3 of there first week AI in the 1st day because since it was brand new they played it more.
For Garth's song I honestly though it would get 5 million AI on the first day not 10 million.
By the way on yes.com there are at least 4 people voting that they hate the song including myself. It is a okay song but way overplayed in 1 week.

My gosh, his fan base!! What about his enormous fan base?!?! What are they gonna do???!!! What a tease these radio stations are!!! I bet there's gonna be an outcry. And since Garth doesn't believe in allowing fans to legally d/l the song, what will they do to get their "More Than A Memory" fix?

I previously said that it is top 20 on almost all stations on yes.com therefore many fans must be calling in to the YES phone number and saying they love it. I doubt it will drop that much next week since radio stations are probably receiving mostly positive calls.

To deny that Garth has a massive fan base would be wrong. But now let's define fan base before we continue.. is it people who enjoy his music/concerts or those that actively promote him? Big difference. I'm not saying you're wrong about the song plummeting. I'm just heeding caution: you cannot base this song off of any prior event on the Billboard chart since the BDS inception. It is truly unique.

The overall top 20 in impacted by the voting on yes.com. But, the rankings for the individual radio stations are simply based on the spin count on that station.

Well, he did it. He didn't catch up in spins (4th) but took it easily with AI. Congrats.
For anyone interested, here are his daily spins as well as AI increase over the past week.

It also proves the point that radio is addicted to certain artists and is smart enough to recognize this. Garth should have been tossed after the horrid episode of Chris Gaines. Garth's Chris Gaines CD is fabulous. Have you really listened to it?

I have never seen such thing as this amazing debut... it's too big for an OMG... he'll be #1 on the country charts this week... it'll the second week, right??
He's #5 in spins but #1 in aud., right??
love to see some records being broken (assuming he is breaking some)!!
