Because Jason Derülo is guest-hosting AT40 next weekend, this is essentially the 45th anniversary weekend edition of AT40 (one week early). Meanwhile, I'm sure Jason will be happy with this week's chart.

It's good to see "Miss Movin' On" in the Two For One spot. It wasn't a very big hit but it's a good song.

I'm honestly surprised that "See You Again" was knocked off to #2 this week, I thought it could be one of those songs that would be up at #1 6 or more weeks. Or it would be knocked off to #2 next week considering Düerlo is hosting...

Nice to see Rachel Platten on AT40 for the first time ever on the Pop version. I can see "Fight Song" gradually climbing the chart each week.
On a side note: Rachel Platten had a hit on AT40 the HOT AC version a couple of years ago with 1000 Ships. I don't remember the peak, but I'm pretty sure she made it on back then. Too bad that couldn't crack The Pop version of AT40 because that was another great song she had.

It's a pretty foolish proposition, IMO, to treat this like the "45th anniversary" instead of next week JUST because DeRulo's hosting next week, if that's what Premiere is doing.
And I honestly expect DeRulo to stay put at #1 next week, meaning he'll get 2 weeks there here despite not doing so on Mediabase. To tell you the truth, I saw THAT coming seeing as he did hit #1 on Mediabase when he did. (Well, given that, and Taylor's own rocket to the top there.)

I had to look up last year's posts when Ed Sheeran and Jennifer Lopez subbed for Ryan in back-to-back weeks. Sheeran subbed on 6/28, J-Lo subbed on 7/5 (when AT40 turned 44 and it turned out I did acknowledge the anniversary during J-Lo's host stint). Honest mistake.

I wasn't sure if that was a reference to how Premiere was handling that or not. Though, it's not like a 45th anniversary would net a particularly huge amount of attention, anyway. However, on that note...it's interesting that in fact, when the big 5-0 does roll around, 2020 will also feature a July 4-dated countdown (2020 will share a calendar with 1992 - so there'll also be a February 29-dated countdown that year ).

Though Ryan usually does make an acknowledgement of AT40's anniversary at about this time each year, typically at the end of the show. Last year was somewhat different, as Casey Kasem died last June; Ryan paid tribute to him in the next weekend's show (6/21/14.)

And this year we get another two consecutive weeks of guest hosts: after Jason DeRulo, Demi Lovato hosts the July 11 show. Demi doesn't currently have an actual chart hit to play, but may get to plug her new single "Cool For the Summer". At least Ryan's being consistent with his vacation schedule. Especially in the 1990s and 2000s, Casey would take many of the same weeks off every year, and by then he actually took a lot more time off then Ryan does.

Unless I missed it, Ryan didn't mention anything about AT40's anniversary, this week.
As Ryan usually does at the halfway point of the year, he runs down the top 3 songs of the year, so far:
3. Maroon 5 - Sugar 2. Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud 1. Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk!
This is in line with the Mediabase YTD rankings.

Here are some more fun facts from this weekend's countdown:
Ed Sheeran had a stutter until his dad bought him an Eminem album and he memorized all the words.
Ryan played a medley of songs with whistling in them before playing "Ghost Town." I was glad to hear "We Are Done" by The Madden Brothers included.
A friend dared George Ezra to go for 6 months without washing his hair and he did it.
Dr. Luke produced both "Birthday" and "Sugar" and Ryan played a drop of "Birthday Sugar" combining the two.
Madonna is cousins with Gwen Stefani, Sam Smith is cousins with Lily Allen, and Andy Grammer is cousins with Kelsey Grammer, also known as Frasier Crane and Side Show Bob.
The other contestants from the American version of "The X Factor" to chart on AT40 were Chris Renee, Simone Battle, Emblem 3, and the only act with 3 AT40 hits is Fifth Harmony.
Many songs this decade, like "Heart Attack," are missing an instrumental break and are harder to sing at karaoke.
"This Summer's Gonna Hurt..." reached the Top 10 in 4 weeks.
The members of Walk The Moon wear face paint at their concert, inspired by the vampire hunters in "The Lost Boys."
For solo men, Bruno Mars has the most #1s this decade with 7. Jason Derulo is in 2nd place with 4. Note: Ryan was careful to say "had" and not "hit" since "Whatcha Say" was a carryover #1 from 2009.

FYI, is it just me or does KIIS seem to play the international edition of AT40? I never noticed that before.

Last I knew, they played the U.S. version Saturday morning and the international version Sunday morning (I think). I couldn't tell you if that was still the case.

We got 3 "It" songs in a row in the top 10, and 3 "Time" songs this weekend (#30, 32, 38). It will indeed be interesting to see if they give Jason an extra week at #1. Only 4 songs in the lower half that have been on 20 or more weeks, so the chart is rather "fresh". Rihanna gets played as an extra, sort of as a consolation prize for flopping lately. It's amazing that she's been charting for 10 years already. I wonder when her elusive new CD will be coming out. Also how will AT 40 handle a couple of B!+@# songs that are on the horizon? There was actually a song by that name in the late 90's, by Meredith Brooks, that they played and announced the title.

At the time, I thought it was kind of weird hearing Casey say the title of that song. And he had to spend three weeks announcing that it was the number one song in the USA. Of course, this was before I knew anything about Casey's notorious expletive-filled tirade about a dead dog. ;) I'm sure there are radio edits that clean up the songs. That's how AT40 would handle this issue, now. I never listened to AT40 in the '70s (before my time). In that decade, radio had to deal with, both, Elton John's "The Bitch Is Back" and Rod Stewart's "Ain't Love A Bitch". In those days, I know AT40 wasn't one for censoring. However, they would warn stations if there was, potentially, objectionable content being played so they could edit accordingly.

Of course you could listen to AT 40: The Seventies now if you want. :)
