Jason falling #1-4 is what should have happened anyway. It follows what actually happened on the Mediabase chart, if I remember correctly. Why does Demi have a breakout with "Cool For The Summer"? Heck, it was just RELEASED to radio today. Selena should have had it instead because she is higher on the Mediabase chart. Years and Years "King" is on it's second week in the Top 40.

It's probably part of whatever deal there is for that song to force it upward. REALLY surprised they actually went with matching what Mediabase would reflect, that being letting DeRulo fall out of #1. Yeah, my inner cynic is out in full force tonight if you couldn't tell.

Heck, it was just RELEASED to radio today. Selena should have had it instead because she is higher on the Mediabase chart. Years and Years "King" is on it's second week in the Top 40. Maybe because Demi hosts next week's show? While Derulo doesn't get to announce himself Deruling the countdown, he does get to play three of his other songs, two previous hits and a new one. Ironically, he yields the top spot to Taylor Swift, who did guest host one week when she was at #1. With several songs closely jostling for #1 the last couple of weeks, it was hard to tell exactly what would be on top depending on the exact timing of the data they used. I thought most likely since Jason had at least a full week on top at Mediabase he'd be at #1 for this show, perhaps aided by data selection. Personally my favourite outcome would have been if "Shut Up and Dance" had been allowed to pull a "Someone Like You" and hit #1 here without doing so at MB, but that wasn't likely. It does get to #2 for at least a week, and quite possibly a second or third. "Can't Feel My Face"'s high debut is impressive, if not terribly surprising considering its fast impact at MB, aided by the hourly Clear Channel airplay deal. (Demi Lovato's new song got similar treatment today at many stations, the impact of which will probably be seen here in a couple of weeks.) Afrojack gets the Two For One for the first time, I think.

Like #Musiciscool said, "Good For You" should have debuted not Demi's new song, maybe even "Bi*ch I'm Madonna" could have even made it
I don't think "Stitches" will be debuting it's been on the verge for 3 weeks now.
I can see "Post To Be" debuting next week at around the 30 position.
And that's Afrojacks first 2 for 1 in his career

I don't think "Stitches" will be debuting it's been on the verge for 3 weeks now. It is in the MB top 40 and still gaining, so it may well make the chart yet. Maybe Shawn Mendes is the new Austin Mahone in a sense, recalling how two years ago "What About Love" was played as an AT40 Breakout/On the Verge/whatever for six straight weeks before they finally charted it.

Count me among the number who who were half-expecting Jason to remain at #1, this week (despite only one week at #1 on Mediabase). However, I'm glad they played by the rules. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't holding out just a tiny bit of hope that Walk The Moon might sneak in a week a #1 before Taylor took over (it wouldn't have been the first time a song hit #1 on AT40 without hitting #1 on Mediabase...there's precedent). Ah, well...that ship has sailed.
As you'd expect, plenty of extas from the guest-host, including his new single. Like many of the rest of you, I'm a bit baffled by the inclusion of Demi's new song a Breakout (as opposed to something that's a bit closer to charting). At the very least, you'd think they'd've waited until next week to play it when Demi, herself, was hosting.
Also of note, "Can't Feel My Face" is, now, the highest debut of the year, so far.

Well Ryan did do a teaser video with her as well, so that's not at all surprising to see it here already too.
side note: Cool for The Summer and Want To Want Me both feature the lyric: "Your body on my mind" (no wonder why it sounded so familiar..)

And this week's #1 is the second such hit with the title "Bad Blood"; the first (using either Billboard or Radio & Records) was by Neil Sedaka in October 1975. That's another title applying to two #1 songs within my lifetime--just barely. :)

^ I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but what was the other title that went to #1 with two different songs? And has this only happened a couple of times in the rock era?

I just meant that it's the second #1 called "Bad Blood". The two #1s with the same title has happened several other times. In fact, now that I think about it, this is the second hit from Taylor Swift's current album to reach #1 while sharing a title with another song that did the same ("Shake It Off" was first.)

I got that one answered recently here: at40fg.proboards.com/thread/4517/original-song-remake-reach-1

I got that one answered recently here: at40fg.proboards.com/thread/4517/original-song-remake-reach-1I came up with these, using the Radio & Records/Mediabase charts back to 1973 (when R&R began) and Billboard before that (as AT40 nowadays would cite when giving chart data). This is different from what you linked, as it includes only different songs of the same title which all hit #1 during the "rock era" (1955 on), and not different chart-topping versions of the same songs: Title-more recent song/earlier song(s): "Bad Blood"-Taylor Swift/Neil Sedaka "Shake It Off"-Taylor Swift/Mariah Carey "Stay"-Rihanna f/Mikky Ekko/Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories (full title: "Stay (I Missed You)"/Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs "One More Night"-Maroon 5/Phil Collins "Without You"-David Guetta f/Usher/Nilsson "With You"-Chris Brown/Jessica Simpson "Big Girls Don't Cry"-Fergie/Four Seasons "My Love"-Justin Timberlake/Paul McCartney & Wings/Petula Clark "Over and Over"-Nelly f/Tim McGraw/Dave Clark Five "Hey Baby"-No Doubt/Bruce Channel "Family Affair"-Mary J. Blige/Sly & the Family Stone "I'll Be There For You"-The Rembrandts/Bon Jovi "Cherish"-Madonna/The Association "Stuck On You"-Lionel Richie/Elvis Presley "I'm Sorry"-John Denver/Brenda Lee "Venus"-Shocking Blue/Frankie Avalon There may well be more that I overlooked.

Thank you so much, mkarns! Sorry to make so much work for you. I came up with only one and it's not on your list. "The Power of Love"-Huey Lewis and The News/Celine Dion. This really has happened a lot more than I would have guessed! I really appreciate your help with this.

I didn't include "The Power of Love" because I was using Radio & Records/Mediabase for as far back as I could, and Celine Dion's song only hit #3 there (though it was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100). It's one of several near-misses by my criteria.

^ OK, I see. I noticed that Venus is a #1 original and remake, and a #1 twice as different songs. And wow at My Love being #1 with 3 different songs. Thanks again!

They played a medley of all of Jason Derulo's AT40 hits, which was nice. And he explained what the dots (umlaut) meant over the "u" in his last name.

They actually played the remix version of "Bad Blood" at #1 on this week's chart. Why? I like the version with JUST Taylor because it sounds like HER song and not just her with the choruses and the bridge. Ugh.

Hmm that's weird, I haven't had time to listen to it yet, I do know that one of my local channels started playing the remix as well recently, when it was first relased they just played the original. Now the only station it hear the original on is my local "plays anything" channel that doesn't play any urban or rap (like they'll cut out Nicki Minaj from Bang Bang or Juicy J from dark horse ...) ( I do agree the original flows better and is better than remix)

In addition, the Maroon 5 song at #9 went "This Summer's Gonna Hurt like a motherA-HA!" as opposed to "This Summer's Gonna Hurt ---- A-HA!". I've heard WFLZ in Tampa air the former portion of the Maroon 5 song as well as the Kendrick Lamar version of "Bad Blood".

^ Let's hope not! I much prefer the original. I thought Jason was OK, but not great, as guest host. He reminded me of Pitbull "Light", but wasn't as sleazy as Pitbull was 2 or 3 years ago, on the July 4th weekend. Pitbull is actually Jason's hero, apparently. One weird thing: He said Cool For The Summer was "on the verge". A lot of the one-word songs were bunching up: 28 thru 25, and 20 thru 18. Sorry to see I Really Like You drop off so soon. I don't understand why two unusual songs are performing so differently. Budapest is stalling out, but Cheerleader continues its merry rise to the top. Go figure.

I think for the very first time, someone acknowledged the name of the woman who does the announcing and sounds like she's talking through a telephone. Jason was addressing "Kelly."

Or he just picked a random name for her. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ RE: Bad Blood remix - It'd be interesting if this were like a one-off (or even a two-off). It kind of reminds me of when I've heard some 1987/88 AT40s, on which there's some songs (often R&B ones) that, some weeks there'll be one version played, and other weeks it'll be a different version.

^ I think the most egregious case of a different version being played was with Ain't It Funny by Jennifer Lopez, which got replaced by a completely different song with her and Ja Rule. It was "funny peculiar", not "funny ha ha". The original song was sooo much better, I think.

Jason mentioned that Jon Bellion produced his hit from late last year: "Trumpets". If I wasn't following this chart closely I would have thought Bad Blood had been #1 for 5 weeks because Jason said "5 weeks #1" when introducing It.
