It seems that Mediabase has changed their rules on the Golds and Recurrents chart. However, since I have no other data, I will use the Mediabase data alone. Hence, no currents or recurrents will be on the chart.

It seems that Mediabase has changed their rules on the Golds and Recurrents chart. Changed how? ??? Before, all the "all-Christmas" stations were removed from the gold and recurrent charts, making the max spins for the gold chart around 600 (increasing toward Christmas Eve). Now the max spins on that chart is 2400+, indicating that the all-Christmas stations are being counted.

It might be kinda fun if all these songs were allowed to re-enter the real chart. That way, they'd push all the currents below #15 and most of them would go recurrent, and then we'd get a whole new set of songs in the new year.
Something similar happened in Billboard last year. The new xmas songs pushed a lot of old currents off the chart for good.

That way, they'd push all the currents below #15 and most of them would go recurrent, and then we'd get a whole new set of songs in the new year. That would never work. After that, the chart would start moving slower than ever, since radio stations still wouldn't play all those newer hits. That would be the beginning of the end for the AC chart (if that hasn't started already).

if that happened, songs getting like 5 spins for the week would chart at the bottom, and it really wouldn't be a true representation, becuase there would be about 10 songs getting more spins than the #1 song, and listed as recurrent.

Personally, I feel that, during the holiday season, all recurrent rules should be off, especially for charts that have many new Christmas songs charting (like Billboard's AC chart, as johnnywest mentioned) so a song that barely has 20 weeks to its credit doesn't get bumped off by holiday songs, especially a song that still has growing potential. Of course, they do sometimes kind of bend the rules for some songs, like "Over My Head (Cable Car)" by The Fray, which was allowed to keep charting even though it was below #15 and had more than 20 weeks on. But still, Christmas songs charting sort of have an unfair advantage, so the recurrent rule for charts with tendencies to chart Christmas songs should be suspended during the month of December. Of course, that's just my opinion and nothing more.
