"Ain't No Trucks In Texas" has gotten exactly zero adds the past two week and is on just 21 monitored MB stations. Almost six weeks later and "Ain't No Trucks In Texas" has now reached 23 monitored MB stations, lol. In fact, Ronnie's song has spent seven weeks inside the MB top 50 and hasn't gotten past #45 yet; while only increasing about 200k in total audience over that time period. 4.0 million of this song's 5.7 million in audience is coming from three stations (W1MC, W1HC and KPLX in Dallas). This song might have been a #1 single if it was released when "Bleed Red" was, but it'll be fortunate just to crack the MB top 40 now.

"And there ain't a cow in Texas, and Wheaties ain't for breakfast…" In all seriousness, I think that the production is very loud and clunky, and Ronnie's voice sounds a bit thinner and more weathered. (His pipes have aged better than Strait's, though.) Other than that, I think this is a well-written, melodic, memorable tune that fits Ronnie's style very well. I think Ronnie still sounds exactly like Ronnie, and that's a great thing. As for George, I actually like his more "weathered" voice now in a different way than his previously more smooth one. Especially for some of the material he's recorded in recent years ("I Saw God Today", "Troubador", "Living For the Night", "The Breath You Take"), I think it's better coming from the point of view of someone who's aged and done more living.

For the same reason, I love Dolly Parton's voice for the last 10-15 years or so compared to how she used to sound back in like the 60s and 70s. Really works for me and I agree it works for George Strait, too.

I have a friend who's a big Dolly Parton fan and thinks she sounds like crap now.
George's increased warmth usually works, even if he sometimes sounds terrible live, and I think Ronnie still sounds great on this song, but there's a noticeable thinness that wasn't present on even "Bleed Red".

Well, we can't all be Ray Price.

I'll I can think is that 10 years ago this would have been a huge hit. This song is one of my favorites of the year, and I'm looking forward to the album now.

Great music video. Really a shame that his age and label affiliation makes this unlikely to do much because it sounds like something that should be a big hit, even today. Either way, I absolutely love this.

It's been a while since I've seen an amusing typo in Country Aircheck. This was the numbers given for "Ain't No Trucks In Texas", under the 'Country Aircheck Activity' tonight.
Ronnie would be in the top 10 this week if he had 18,000 total points, lol. Obviously, the comma placement indicates a simple mistake of too many 1's -- it's supposed to say "1,818". :)
