This was the third single from "Spirit" in the US. It was originally recorded by Avril Lavigne, who included it as a bonus track for her album, "The Best Damn Thing." She co-wrote it with Dr. Luke. It peaked at #66 on the Hot 100 and #24 at CHR/Pop. This was a terrible single choice. It's so bland.

Dull. Terrible single choice. Sounds like a random Celine Dion album track.

I love the song, both Avril's and Leona's.

Avril's version is a lot better and could've been a huge smash for her
Leona's tone is way too overdrawn and takes away from the sweetness of the song

It was a bad single for sure, but I've always loved the song.
Leona's version that is.

I think I prefer Leona's version although both are good.

The song is terribly saccharine. Leona deserved (deserves?) much better.

Not a bad song But a horrible single Probably one of the worst career-killing singles ever. I remember discussing in this forum about why the heck the label didn't want to use Forgive Me instead as a third single --a song recorded for the US market, with Akon (Hot in the us) and that showed a light non-ballad side of Leona. Instead they went for a typical type of ballad and on top of that tried to convince us that Leona could be a tough criminal (huh?!!) The whole thing seemed like a parody and killed the era (even though there were other good singles in the album and Run could have been a smash cover as well). Smh

I like both versions, but I prefer Avril's.
They used to play Leona's video a lot on VH1, so at the time I thought it was more successful than it actually was. In hindsight, "Forgive Me" should have been released here instead.

Reading through this thread I agree with most, Why 3 ballads in a row. Don’t hurt the beautiful song that it is… lol Personally I loved it and was sad to say it struggle up the charts. Her label probably should have released something different. Maybe they wanted adult sales?? I have no clue, but I’ve always preferred this and my favorite “Better In Time” over “Bleeding Love”.
