I was curious to see which Country classes you guys liked better :)
The Class Of 1986 featured newcomer such as Randy Travis, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, k.d lang, Lyle Lovett, and Ricky Van Shelton. It was essentially a renaissance year for Country, as we saw acts like Travis and Shelton bring back the traditional country sound, while Earle and Yoakam broke down the barriers of what was and what wasn't Country.
The Class Of 1989 saw more of a mainstream turn, with acts like Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Clint Black, Suzy Bogguss, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Lorrie Morgan. Garth was the biggest thing that country music had ever seen, where Alan Jackson was the one who kept it real and traditional. Tritt brought his southern rock influence into the genre, and was mildly successful with it.
So this begs the question, which class features more acts that you like?
I personally pick the class of 1986, as there are a lot of my favorites on there, like Randy Travis, Steve Earle, and Dwight Yoakam.

Pretty torn but: 1989 as Garth and Alan outweigh the others IMO. But, yeah, it's all pretty close and both classes are more than awesome.

The artists of 1989 have more name recognition, but the artists of 1986 made slightly better music, IMO. But really, both groups of artists are really great, and I love every single artist mentioned. I love how both groups feature a nice balance of artists who were purely traditional (like Travis and Jackson) and artists who expanded the definition of country music without supplanting it (like Steve Earle and MCC). If only mainstream country could look like that today...

If only mainstream country could look like that today... Agree with everything here Andy, when people like Earle and Tritt and MMC were doing their own thing they were actually evolving country, you know, the right way.... I agree with that last line, funny how Sam Hunt is "Country" but someone like Whitey Morgan is "Americana"

I agree with that last line, funny how Sam Hunt is "Country" but someone like Whitey Morgan is "Americana"Because Sam Hunt is backed by Universal/MCA and Whitey Morgan's label (Bloodshot) is specialized in Alternative, Roots, and Americana, etc. I'm pretty sure if one of the big labels takes him in he will be re-branded as (general) country (whatever this may be today).

1989 and it ain't even close. Randy Travis is the only artist from the other 'class' that I'm even a fan of, whereas Garth Brooks is the only artist in the class of 1989 I don't care for. If I could swap those two, it would be perfect.
