Based on early reads, here are our initial forecasts for next week's chart. Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights (Capitol Nashville): 325-340k albums; 340-355k SPS Dr. Dre’s Compton, A Soundtrack (Aftermath/Interscope): 260-275k albums; 290-305k SPS (30-50m streams) That’s how things are trending now, but Compton is a different animal altogether, with a monumental feel in some quarters. Dre owns ESPN radio and TV as well as Twitter. Traditional and nontraditional word of mouth could keep it stronger than the usual trends. That’s something we should know on Monday after seeing the weekend sales. Will the TV ad blitz for the movie give him a stronger late-week finishing kick? Bryan’s release is being boosted by his genre-transcending popularity, Heartland support and physical retail visibility. And he’s playing Fallon Monday night. Stay tuned for updated numbers on these titles, as well as Now 55 (NOW), the latest from the ever-popular Various Artists, which is looking 60-70k-ish at the moment. ( HDD) 8/10 UPDATE:Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 315-325k albums, 335-340k SPS Dr. Dre (Aftermath/Interscope) 290-300k, 320-330k

Damn, looks like Dre really will miss out on #1 for the third time. Well, I guess each of his solo albums peaking at #2 despite being classics is a story in itself.

This could easily hit #1 on the 17th after the premier of the movie. It's not a big deal...it's a soundtrack.

I expected much higher sales for Dre's album. It's a soundtrack but it also doubles as a solo album... and one that's been highly anticipated for 16 years.

Since Apple is really pushing hard to get ppl to turn on its much-flawed Apple Music, could "Compton" exclusive lead to more ppl to turn the service on so they can listen to it? I'm curious if the streaming numbers may end up a lot higher than anticipated because of that wild card. At the very least, I expect that Apple will be pushing for more of these 'exclusives' in a variety of genres to get users to turn it on. I do think the album will hold well and probably hit #1 next week after the movie opens - if the movie is a hit.

The Chronic peaked at #3. You are right! For years I have thought that it reached #2. Crazy for that album to only reach #3 given that it has sold close to 6 million copies in the US alone.

Imagine 21 released in 2000 and sold enough to still top the chart for 24 weeks in the climate then where the #10 album sold 80k. Adele will probably surpass Metallica.

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=297204LUKE VS. DRE: UPDATEThe Plot Thickens in the Compton vs. Country Showdown The Luke-Dre battle is tightening up. The latest numbers have Luke Bryan's Kill the Lights retaining its lead, but Dr. Dre's Compton gaining—particularly, you will not be surprised to hear, in the streaming arena. We are now projecting total Dre streams of 25m. Here's how it looks right now: 1. Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 315-325k albums, 335-340k SPS2. Dr. Dre (Aftermath/Interscope) 290-300k, 320-330kThough Lights is still the sales favorite, Compton is a different breed of cat, with a monumental scale in the sociocultural sense. Dre owns ESPN radio and TV as well as Twitter. Traditional and nontraditional word of mouth could keep it stronger than the usual trends. Will the TV ad blitz for the movie give Dre a strong late-week finishing kick? Bryan’s release is being boosted by his genre-transcending popularity, Heartland support and terrestrialretail visibility. And he’s playing Fallon tonight. What's more, Kill the Lights is out in physical form, while Compton will be digital only for the first two weeks of release—and that disadvantage will be hard to overcome, despite the fact that Dre skews digital and Bryan's fan base favors the CD. Stay tuned for updated numbers on these titles, as well as Now 55 (NOW), the latest from the ever-popular Various Artists, which is looking 60-70k-ish at the moment.

No surprise at all that Luke beat Dre. Never underestimate a country star, especially one as big as Luke. Looking forward to buying Luke today and Dre, when the physical is released on the 21st.

Are there any big releases coming out this Friday? If not, Luke could get #1 and Dr.Dre would be #1 the week after (I think the movie effect should be enough to push this to #1 if there aren't any big releases) and everyone will be happy.

While I hope Dre can get #1 next week, I doubt it. Despite the movie opening, hip-hop albums are usually very frontloaded.

I'm not surprised he's iTunes exclusive. He hitched his wagon to Apple with Beats, he's not going to splinter the revenue stream even if it means lower total units sold. If people want to stream the album they will, nobody is paying for Apple Music right now so the only impediment to his fans hearing it is really that it is online only. Beyoncé, Drake, and (kind of) D'Angelo haven't had trouble with online exclusives, it's not a huge obstacle to moving big units. 300k is a big opening for a mostly unpromoted album from an artist without a super broad following. Would they have gotten better SPS if the album was on Spotify and Rdio too? Probably. But Dre has an interest in bringing his fans to a service he owns a piece of

Glad that Dre did reach 300k after all.. 250k would've been seen as a disappointment given the opening Drake had earlier this year.
