I feel like every one of her albums (except for B'Day) has a couple - sometimes more - of really bland ballads that could've been left out. But for some reason they're always there.

For some reason I actually really like, for the most part, the bland ballads on IASF.

Yeah, she's so hit and miss with ballads. I don't use most of them.

I'm in agreement with a lot of you. I'm a Bey STAN but her ballads...man. I will say that they have got better as time went on especially with FOUR. There are still some clunkers. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of Sandcastles...like..at all. It really ruins Lemonade for me. On the other hand, she has also put out a few gems early in her career (looking at you Be With You).

For me It's not her ballads I don't care about, because I've had 4 on repeat and I still adore this album (Rather Die Young included). I'm just not one bit excited when she drops sth w/ piano instrumental. I'd tried to give Sandcastles a pass, based on how minimalistic it is, but I'm honestly over it. My favorite ballads from her are Heaven (for personal reasons) & Me Myself and I.

I like Beckyonce and her MOR ballads tbh, it's just that Urbanyonce has so much more flair.

But "Sandcastles" is so beautiful! </3 wWwwWha-a-aaat is it abouUt yoOoouUUuuUUUU?!
Most of her ballads are not the business, tho; agreed they've gotten more interesting lately. I even grew to like "1+1" and love everything 4 except the one that was a single with the faux-riddle title that I truly can't think of rn. And I loathe "If I Were A Boy."

I think we're all agreed on the travesty that is called IIWAB. Easily her worst single (and song) EVER.

IIWAB is single-handedly her dumbest single (and possibly overall song) ever. Yes, over (underrated jam) Video Phone.

I've always enjoyed IIWAB (especially the live Grammy rendition that had more of a rock bent and mixed in You Oughta Know). However, I can agree it's the weakest single in her discography.

Interesting convo. I have always stuck up for Beckyonce and played the Becky side of IASF OUT. Love those songs. Always have, always will. I have a soft spot in my heart for goopy ballads though...yes, even if I Were A Booooooy (though I like the fake soundboard release of it better LOLOL).

It's crazy because while I LOVE schmaltzy, overwrought ballads - I just don't like them coming from Beyonce for some reason.

Because it sucks, is stupid, and lame as hell.
Fortunately it's mostly forgotten now thanks to Single Ladies and her turn for the better in the years after.

I think I literally thanked God the week Single Ladies hit #1 and ended whatever chances If I Were a Becky (lolololol) had of becoming one of Beyonce's signature hits. Even then people were making it clear that Beckyonce stood no chance of survival when crunk, uptempo Beyonce was an option. I felt bad for my friend who was the opposite - she didn't care one way or the other about IIWAB but she haaaaaaaated SL and that song was inescapable, especially in the club.
I'll give IIWAB a very light pass on the absolute 'worst' designation though, only because Check On It also unfortunately exists and I'm still not sure which of those two songs I hate more.

7/11 is BOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMBBBBBBBBB!!!!!!!! I pray for all of those who lack the energy and/or butt cheeks to truly appreciate it. And I actually think it was a great fun re-release track to add a bit of balance to an album that, while overflowing with merits, veered towards the slow side a lot more often than not. It was certainly more welcome than Pretty Hurts or XO for me.
COI is a throwaway, and never really hid that, but I certainly never considered it worse than the croonersnoozers that made up the majority of DIL, or the White side of her third. At the very least it's fun, or was then.
