Last night I text into the radio station in my area to play Love Me Harder (as they just played The Hills censored like no tomorrow), and they rang me back saying they didn't have it and that they would play Focus (although as seen on their Twitter this was already planned earlier, and they asked me to 'pretend' I was requesting it so they could air that as the intro into the song). They have been playing it consistently since the release, the only songs of hers they had previously played were Problem and Bang Bang.

Callout scores for this are horrendous. Its positive is 40.3 (lowest), its negative is also 40.3 (highest; not what you want btw), so it has a net positive of 0.0 (the lowest by far).

LMAO at that callout scores. Even if it's callout scores is decent, I doubt it will get past #9 or 10, considering the terrible sales (And that's after a slot in AMA)

Again I am in the minority here. This song much like "Problem" keeps getting better and better to me. I don't care that it doesn't seem like like she had grown as an artist or changed up her style some. I don't look for ground breaking music from her, just music that makes me feel good. I guess if people wanted some growth from her, this song is not for them???

Oof this was really a misstep, wasn't it?
Since she's said the rest of the album is completely different, maybe it's time to release another track soon? I.e. one that doesn't sound like a second-rate version of a previous hit of hers?

It was a been there done that type of thing.

I get what your saying and I will be the first to admit that I don't mind a re hash or a song that is similar to another song. lol I can see where it may almost cheapen a song or be frowned upon but it doesn't bother me. Now if she does it again for another single I may give a little side eye too. lol

Ok those call out scores may not be great but i want Ariana 2 win. So this is what we do. We strike back at the haters and release our best weapon next. A Mariah Carey cover. The nostalgia, the drama that ensues will take her to #1, again.

The nostalgia, the drama that ensues will take her to #1, again. Her enunciation is actually intelligible there. MC brings out the best in her! Ready for single #2. Wondering if they're gonna wait until the new year?

The most they can do for a second single right now is prepare a music video. It's not worth releasing or pushing anything until January at the earliest. RE: second single/video Tom Felton joke-tweeted about wanting to be in her next video and she legit wants to make it an actual thing. I hope she can make it happen.

Omg I knew Ari could sang but that version of Emotions really impressed me!!! I mean, Mariah's is still untouchable with that extra gritt and depth in her voice but Ari did an amazing job. Who knows.... Throw a more modern production so that it doesn't sound too 90s and I'd love to hear that as part of her album. I'm really rooting for her. Her stage presence has dramatically improved and her voice is in great shape. She needs to improve enunciation still (during the AMAs my boo wasn't impressed because "I didn't know what she was singing about, all I could hear was mumbling, runs here and there and Focus") and better material, and she could really be a big star.

Yeah... next single please. A midtempo a la Love Me Harder would be nice.

I have heard Mariah sing it live amazing. That ariana performance was studio. She has never hit those note live ever. she can't hit it! however i agree that was impressive! I agree with everything you said!

-107, geez.
It's really unusual to see quite a miss like this.
Goes to show you it really is all about the song. What I think is particularly unusual about this is how wide the clear disconnect was between Ariana's team and the public's reaction to this song.
Established yet still rising pop princess, lead single of an album, lots of promo and hype, holiday release (so stuck with it until January) and then... people just didn't like it.
(For the record, I personally like Focus and am surprised it's struggling this much.)

I just don't think this song is that catchy. I've heard it dozens of times now and the only lyrics I remember are "focus on me." And honestly, I only remember the chorus because it is so grating and annoying.
On the other hand, I could probably recite half of the verses of problem by heart. The problem with this song is that it is so unsubstantial and recycled, without any catchiness to back it up. I thought it was a bad song from the first time I heard it, and apparently almost everyone agrees.
