Radio paying this dust is one of the biggest surprises and injustices of 2015. Please make it right in 2016, country radio!

Why did radio not wanna put this into higher rotation? There's literally nothing offensive about it, especially since there are songs like "Beautiful Drug" and "Drunk On Your Love" that are charting much higher. It's really unexpected since "Day Drinking" was a sizable hit and "Girl Crush" was a monster hit. The way LBT's singles perform on radio is probably the most inconsistent I've ever seen from any artist/band.

The way LBT's singles perform on radio is probably the most inconsistent I've ever seen from any artist/band. It got released at a pretty brutal time for new high profile releases in the Fall and just got lost in the shuffle for many radio stations around the country, especially since it was a third single. LBT has always had a hot and cold relationship at radio so I'm not too surprised this one has had a rough go so far. The success of "Girl Crush" wasn't guaranteeing anything in terms of the success of their follow-up. "Pain Killer" is up 105 spins and 250k in audience over the past six days, so there is some life left in the tank but I don't see this one making the top 20.

It's really unexpected since "Day Drinking" was a sizable hit and "Girl Crush" was a monster hit. The way LBT's singles perform on radio is probably the most inconsistent I've ever seen from any artist/band. I suspect that some radio programmers felt that they were more or less 'forced' to play "Girl Crush", and that they're a bit annoyed because of it. "Girl Crush" never researched particularly well with country radio's main target demographic, but because of its sales, radio couldn't ignore it. "Pain Killer" isn't testing particularly well either (at Bullseye's Callout America, anyway), although it's not among the bottom 5 songs on any of Bullseye's call-out reports, so there are other songs with even worse listener feedback. I'm a little surprised that this has moved as slowly as it has -- I thought it could at least manage to chart similar to "Your Side Of The Bed" -- but then again, "Pain Killer" never really struck me the type of song that would be a hit single at radio. I wouldn't have exactly been surprised if this had turned into a fairly big hit...I'm simply saying that it didn't strike me as having obvious hit potential.

I don't understand how radio could eat up "Day Drinking" and not this. Like this really feels a lot like that one musically and thematically and every bit as radio-friendly and catchy. It's not a lead single obviously so it doesn't have that benefit, but the way it has been performing is not like I expected at all. I really am surprised they're paying this one such dust. I could understand why "Your Side of the Bed" didn't take off since it was quite slow and somber for radio, but this reads to me like exactly what radio would want from LBT after turning songs like "Pontoon" and "Day Drinking" into such big hits recently.

I think radio got sick of LBT and Girl Crush and therefore they are finished with them for this Album cycle. Just my opinion.

Little Big Town has been confirmed to perform at the Grammy Awards!
They'll almost certainly perform "Girl Crush".

Man this song is really struggling to stay afloat. "Pain Killer" as a whole has lost around 100K in audience this week and I wonder now if this one will go recurrent on BB. It'd make sense for the label to stop promotion since this hasn't done a lot in the next couple of weeks.

I can't at how hard this flopped lol. LBT's relationship with radio and the charts is literally the weirdest thing. They might as well release something else off the album, and then get busy on their next one. I really do think "Girl Crush" might have been an era killer for them, and yes I know how ridiculous that sounds considering how huge of a hit it was, but I agree with the theory that jhomes87 and layne put out there. I say they release "Faster Gun" as the final single. Why not at this point? It's always given me "Tornado" vibes anyway, and that ended up being huge. If "Pain Killer" flopped I really don't see "Quit Breaking Up With Me" or anything else on the album having much of a chance anyway. I think it's just a matter of putting something out there to bridge the gap between "Girl Crush" and a brand new song from an upcoming album.

If I were them I'd just hold off til the next era to release something, because I don't see where having another "Pain Killer"-level of success on the charts will do anything for them worthwhile. It wasn't selling and it struggled just to make the Top 40, so I think at this point they'd probably peak even lower with a fourth single. There's some great options on the album, but if something as sure-fire of a hit as the title track didn't go anywhere, then they're obviously not really in a good spot to keep the era going, imo.

This one never sounded like a hit with me. I imagine some listeners found the whole "Take it away" part to be rather annoying and grating. I know I found it annoying. I also think radio might want a shake up for the lead singer since Karen Fairchild has been the lead singer for singles for a while so maybe radio is ready for a switch up with them cause at least to me it feels like the others are in the background.

I don't see any actual leverage behind this other than empty speculation. They haven't had a hit single that hasn't featured Karen prominently in almost 10 years now, so I can't imagine switching it up is something that radio or fans want at all. I'm not totally opposed to it, but it's pretty clear that Karen has become the de facto lead because she's the favored vocalist and definitely stands out as the most distinctive. I also am still puzzled this didn't hit or that people would say that it didn't sound like a hit, because it literally sounds like "Day Drinking" Part II, which was a big success for them. This really sounded like it had all the makings of a safe and easy radio hit, but I guess the burnout from "Girl Crush" took a bigger toll than anyone probably anticipated. I'm pretty sure if "Pain Killer" could only just narrowly scrape the Top 40, then nothing else would've done any better or perhaps missed the Top 40 altogether.

Eh it's just a feeling I have and something I think they should do especially since I feel like they should use I don't know Kimberly Schlapman (man her singing voice is lovely). I think what made Day Drinking a hit was the easy flowing chorus infectious hook and solid pop-country production being released in the summer also helped. I think Pain Killer was just a little too bland for people's liking that and like I said that "Take It Away oh you take it away" gets my vote for possibly the most annoying thing ever. To me it sounded way too hard to be catchy but just soumded grating.

I was both somewhat surprised and not surprised they went with this as a single as it never screamed hit to me (and yet seemed like the safest choice). They didn't need a "Day Drinking Part II" song on the heels of "Girl Crush" which undoubtedly left somewhat of a burnout with radio programmers. While enjoyable enough, I much preferred the groove of "Good People" or the tongue-in-cheek "Quit Breaking Up With Me." And if they had wanted to take another risk "Live Forever" was my favorite track from the album.

I don't know about anyone else but "Pain Killer " is substantially superior to "Day Drinking" to me.
