I'm actually really surprised people love this song so much... It's such an "inoffensive" song to me, like the sort of song that people wouldn't either love or hate. LOL Good for Thomas, I guess. Let's hope this encourages him to ditch the r&b-pop influences and start pursuing a sound that goes better with him and his voice. I think you meant to post this in the "Die A Happy Man" thread. :)

So I was driving with my mother doing some Christmas shopping, and all of a sudden "Real Men Love Jesus" came on. I wanted so bad to mute it but that's out of my control, so after the first chorus my mom mutes it and says "Real women don't love Michael Ray"
Needless to say I damn near pissed my pants laughing.

The video is actually quite good! Even though I don't support the message behind it, I quite like the melody and production of this song. It's a shame the lyrics drag the whole thing down.

This is exactly how I feel. I find the melody and production to be top-notch, and I love the flow of the chorus. But the lyrics -- specifically the hook -- just sound really contrived to me. I enjoy plenty of faith-based songs, but the stereotypical lyrics of this one make me cringe every time.

What a fantastic music video! It only made me love this song even more! This is definitely one of my favorite male country singles out there right now. I get really excited every time I hear those opening chords coming through my car stereo. And my goodness, could Michael Ray be any more gorgeous? *swoons*

That's how you do it! Although, Michael Ray debuted with a Bro-Country song, he decided that Traditional Country is better and went with "Real Men Love Jesus". This song is one of my favorites.

I don't think that he decided anything was better. His label wanted to come back with something completely different and slower for radio to show his range. I like this song better too (although most anything would have beaten "Kiss You In The Morning") but I think we'll be hearing more songs like his debut in the years to come.

If they continued to pick songs like "Real Men Love Jesus", he won't be around long. There's a delicate balance of releasing slow songs and tempo. Radio want's tempo from their artists. I guarantee we hear more songs along the lines of "Kiss You In The Morning" in the future.

Sure "Look Like This" is an uptempo but it's not really anything like his debut single. My point is I don't see any other Bro-Country songs on the album besides KYITM.

Your original point was that Michael decided traditional country was better and there's literally no way to know that, so I don't know why you thought to say it. My original point also stands that he doesn't pick his singles -- his label does. Do I know that for sure? No, of course not, but that's usually the standard procedure with new artists. It's not like Ray said "hey, even though I just scored a huge #1 single with this uptempo "bro-song", I've decided that slow, traditional songs that have a polarizing message is the way to go on country radio!

I think the point he's making though is that "Kiss You in the Morning" is a bit of an outlier on the record in the same fashion that say "Something 'Bout a Truck" was on Kip Moore's debut album. I don't think he's trying to make a deep argument that this single was him deciding bro-country wasn't "the way to go" but his album is far better than his debut might lead someone to believe.

Fair enough. Nothing stood out for me on his album ("Somewhere South" was very good), especially the other up-tempos, so I'm not quite at the opinion of there are gems all over the album waiting to be heard. I didn't really put "Kiss You In The Morning" in the bro-country crowd, I just thought the song was mediocre and grating. It's that kind of material that labels like to break many artists into radio with and that's unfortunate. I do think he shows his range and vocals with "Real Men Love Jesus" though.

Just want to say that, it may just be my personal taste (bro-themes don't really bother me that much), this album has been one of my most played since I heard it. I think the KYITM is definitely the exception to the rule, I really like "Real Men Love Jesus", "Drivin' All Night", "Somewhere South", "Wish I Was Here", and "Everything in Between". WIWH is one of my favorite songs of the year.

"Somewhere South" is a love song about the south, "Everything in Between" and "Wish I Was Here" are both love songs.

I wasn't necessarily saying it has bro-themes, bad phrasing, but addressing that whether it is or not I like the songs. I have a hard time truly defining what's bro-country and a lot of what I see classified as such on here is stuff I like so I just always cover that base lol.

The Cumulus block added "Real Men Love Jesus" this week. Excellent! I've been hearing this all the time on my radio stations here and I am loving it. One of the songs I'm most excited to hear the opening chords on the radio dial currently.

I like the smooth sound of this, but I'm not too fond of the "good ol boy" lyrical syrup.

Heard this song come on the radio today and I thought it was Jason Michael Carroll singing it. Michael Ray sounds really similar, I was quite taken aback by that.

I was driving home from my work/internship this afternoon and somebody told Brett Alan on WYRK that "Real Men Love Jesus's" opening guitar riff sounds exactly like the opening of "Mama, I'm Coming Home" by Ozzy Osbourne. I heard both and they definitely do, lol.

First of all this song every time I hear this song I grow to hate this song even more. This song says that in order to be a real "man" you have to like football, cowboys and outlaws, which I'm sorry since I don't like football I guess I'm not a real man. That just makes me angry.
Anyway for this song am I the only one who thinks this one is struggling right now it feels like song after song is passing it and if I recall correctly the sales for this one aren't all that impressive either.

I don't share a lot of the interests with the narrator of "Real Men Love Jesus," but I couldn't love this one any more than I do. I think looking at the song as saying you aren't a real man if you don't like football, for instance, is a very surface-level view of the song, imo. For me, I find this song really compelling from every angle and it really speaks to me, but I can understand why it might not to someone else. That said, at least the way I view the song, I think it's speaking more on different things that different men hold as characteristics or values that are bound together by the chorus imagery. In other words, I think "Real Men Love Jesus" is talking more about real men who exist (multiple ones), not a superiority "this my laundry-list definition of the definitive singular man." No two men are the same so obviously a song like this doesn't make sense from the second perspective to me.
