Not surprised to see that this got the most adds despite all the backlash. One thing that I've noticed lately is that songs that really push the country envelope get a lot of adds.
Personally I like this song and I think it's extremely catchy but I can't stand that it's called country. The intro sounds country with that dobro then it turns into a soul/R&B song which is the trend lately.
If this past year has taught us anything it's that genres don't matter I guess.

Radio is loving Eric right now, as evidence of the treatment that "Song About A Girl" and "She Don't Love You" got.I don't think "High Class" had much to do with him bring the most added. In fact, I was expecting around 50 adds on impact day so this got less adds than I would have predicted.

Eric Paslay now has the third ever "D" rating from Country Weekly. (The other two were "Doin' Country Right" by David Fanning and "Bad for You" by Waterloo Revival. Danielle Bradbery's new piece of crap got a "D-", which I think is far too generous.)

Now that I have heard this track numerous times I must correct my first assessment... It's really starting to get on my nerves big time... I'm sorry, Eric: Thumbs down!

I think this song should alert country radio that they can't play songs like these. If pop radio wanted to take a chance, then they could but Country radio should not be playing this.

Most of these songs you think "pop" stations would play wouldn't consider them pop at all. So while they may "not be country," they are marketed as such cause there's not really anywhere else to go.

I agree with this, but you know what? There's not really a place for traditional country music either. Obviously Chris Stapleton has become an exception (for now), but Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark, Lee Ann Womack, Sturgill Simpson, Randy Rogers, Wade Bowen, etc ( trebor and zack97 could probably make a big list here)...there's not really a radio format for their music either.

Completely agree, although mainstream country radio does allow songs like "High Class", "Crash And Burn", "Drink To That All Night" and "Breakup In A Small Town" to become hits on their format, whereas the traditional leaning artists (for the most part) get turned away at the door.

Well since you asked lol.... More acts that could easily find an audience if they were given a chance (and are at least somewhat tied to country. I could easily make this list longer, but these are acts that definitely fit in with jhomes's list above) Blackberry Smoke, Aaron Watson, The Lone Bellow, Will Hoge, William Clark Green, Whitey Morgan and the 78's, Jamie Lin Wilson, Whitney Rose, Gretchen Peters, Sam Outlaw, Ryan Bingham, Christian Lopez Band, Hayes Carll, Ashley Monroe, Angeleena Presley, Lindi Ortega, The Turnpike Troubadours, Jason Boland and the Stragglers, Courtney Patton, Kasey Chambers......etc Jhomes is right when she says there isn't a place for these guys in country music. That's why most of them identify as Americana. I know I've said this a lot before in other threads on the forum, but it definitely needs to repeating, Americana is the new Country and Country is the new Pop. Heck, just look at the airplay chart. What names do you see? Probably a ton you don't know I'm guessing, but wait! What the heck are Don Henley, Chris Stapleton, and Kacey Musgraves doing here? Their music is obviously too traditional to really be considered Americana right? Wrong. As evidenced by this article here involving Don Henley, some artists don't want to be associated with what's known as Country anymore. Americana is really the only place they can call home (obviously Texas acts like Wade Bowen and Randy Rogers can call Texas their home though).

This song is both catchy and a mess at the same time. What the hell does "cadi up this Lac" even mean? What's with all the missing infinitives ("tonight we high class") and another freaking Timberlake name drop?
I don't get the hate for Paslay. "She Don't Love You" was a great song, and "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" shows that he can be a very skilled writer too.

There was a stretch that lasted about two weeks earlier in November, where "High Class" was in the 500-800 range of the iTunes all-genre chart...but now its not even in the top 1500. Strange.
This one is increasing in spins and audience very slowly but I don't think anything can be determined yet about how high this one can get. This song's vocals, production and lyrics are so grating though, especially that awful "drop a little bit, drop a little bit more" lyric.

This song is just stuck in the mud right now. "High Class" had a decent week on MB this Sunday as it gained 200 points and got three new adds but it has actually lost nearly 200k in total audience over the past five weeks and has gained 100 net spins over that time frame. It currently has 708 spins and 2.9 million in audience and sits at #48 on the rolling chart, at the 50 day mark on MB. Here's Eric's last three singles and how they stood at the 50 day mark on MB:
Title: Spins: Audience: Position:
"Friday Night" 714 3.1 #38 "Song About A Girl" 2046 14.0 #26 "She Don't Love You" 1230 6.0 #32
"High Class" 708 2.9 #48
Keep in mind that the spins and audience have inflated since "Friday Night" was climbing the charts in the summer of 2013. Right now the top song gets between 8000-8500 spins and about 60.0 million in total audience, vs. June of 2013, where the top song garnered about 6800-7000 spins and 52.0 million in total audience.
Simply put, "High Class" isn't doing anywhere near as good as Eric past two singles and is being significantly outpaced (chart position wise) by "Friday Night" -- the song that took forever to climb and broke Eric at radio. The sales have been pretty bad lately, even though it saw a short spike mid 100's range in early November; its currently #1400 on the all-genre chart.
UMG wanted "High Class" to at least be top 40 by now and the fact we're just about done with 2015 isn't good news as that means more released to contend with in 2016. This song needs to pick up the pace now.

Sorry for this double post but "High Class" will be featured on ESPN/ABC's coverage of college football's Bowl Season: Music Row

Not really sure why people are actually liking this one. Is Paslay trying to be Justin Timberlake?

I'll be disappointed if the tie-in with college football helps this one become a hit. I was happy to see that this one was struggling to take off like his prior releases had and was becoming optimistic that it wouldn't take off.

Radio is playing the hell out of "Beautiful Drug" and "Break Up in a Small Town". This is very unfortunate and this could happen to this song too.

It'll help for sure but it won't be a deciding factor, whether or not this one can take off. Eric had another bad update today as he lost 23 spins and nearly 80k in audience. I think Paslay's streak of top 20 singles ends with "High Class."

Yes...I know that... I'm sorry. I thought he had more than that. My mistake. Color me confused, lol. Eric's first hit on any scale was "Friday Night". Then came "Song About A Girl" and "She Don't Love You." Now "High Class." :)

Eric Paslay "High Class" should finish this week up at #39 on MB with both Locash (I think they're going recurrent) and Jason Aldean leaving. How much higher this song can get remains to be determined. I can see this one possibly scrapping the Top 30 but "High Class" has spent a long time already and it's just now entering the Top 40 so I won't be surprised if the label let's go of this one relatively soon.

"High Class" will be #40 this week, as "I Love This Life" is not going recurrent -- it had a bullet on the January 19th issued Mediabase chart. I also doubt this song can become a hit but I still suspect EMI will continue pushing this for as long as they can.

I thought both h Thomas and LoCash had a net spin drop obviously Thomas gets saved since he was the top song but I could have sworn that LoCash also went without a bullet.

BTW: "Die A Happy Man" also kept its bullet that week as well.
