The Hills is now ahead of WDYM in sales (there's a second version of TH in iTunes top 100). Looks like The Hills has this week in the bag too!

Drake is definitely going for #1 soon enough, he's going to jump a couple spots next week.

Quick prediction:
1. The Hills (15-20% lead) 2. What Do You Mean? 3. Locked Away 4. Hotline Bling 5. Can't Feel My Face 6. Good For You 7. Watch Me 8. Stitches 9. 679 10. Wildest Dreams
honestly I think WDYM? won't return to #1. It's not even #1 in sales anymore and it seems like TH is outgrowing it in all three metrics at this point. I think it'll have a similar run to that of Bad Blood.

Seems it will be a similar situation to All About That Bass and Shake It Off, possibly

what are the odds on Stitches going top 10 next week? I'd hate for it to peak at #11 or #12:(

Seems it will be a similar situation to All About That Bass and Shake It Off, possibly Closer to the SYA/BB situation. Right now, it's not looking good for WDYM. It's not #1 in any of the metrics and losing ground fast. The only way is if it's still increasing in like December when The Hills will likely start decreasing. The next few weeks it looks very unlikely for WDYM to return to #1. EDIT: unless you were talking about something else... what are the odds on Stitches going top 10 next week? I'd hate for it to peak at #11 or #12:( I have it at #8 in my prediction. IMO since it's increasing while songs like Cheerleader and Lean On are on their way out, it and Wildest Dreams should enter this week.

You certainly won't be needing decent points to be #1 nowadays.. Look at Uptown Funk.. the overwhelming lead

Why not..... there is a big gap between TH and HB right now, and TH is still gaining on airplay.

I know I'm late to the discussion, but I only downloaded Spotify this week and didn't know exactly how it worked before. I always assumed Spotify was like Netflix, you have some new movies, some old movies, and can only watch them online. Therefore Netflix is unable to fully substitute movie theaters or other plataforms. But on Spotify you have access to most new songs and you can even save them to listen to whenever you want, even offline. So why would someone pay 10 dollars for a digital album instead of a Spotify subscription? I can understand the appeal that physical media still has to a lot of people, but why do millions of Americans still buy music on iTunes? Am I missing something here?

I can understand the appeal that physical media still has to a lot of people, but why do millions of Americans still buy music on iTunes? Am I missing something here? A lot of it has to do with demographics—not just age (young people are more likely to use Spotify than pay for music) but also the genre audience. For example, country audiences are slower to adopt newer technology than, say, hip-hop audiences ( I think it was only last year that digital finally overtook physical for country albums oops this is wrong, physical still accounts for 69% of country albums, but point made), which also explains why hip-hop does so much better on streaming. Also, remember that not everyone will necessarily adopt new technology just because it's there. New technology has to become familiar with larger, more change-averse segments of the public before it's used on a mass scale.

I personally prefer digital media because I like to listen to music wherever I go. Spotify has to use WiFi or data, and not everywhere I go has those things (or doesn't have WiFi, and I'm not wasting my data when I can listen to the song I've already downloaded). Spotify also has advertisements, my digital library does not. Spotify also has limited selection (it may be vast, but it doesn't have everything), my digital library does not. Spotify is great for the casual music listener, but for the music junky like myself, it doesn't even come close. And for that matter, why use Spotify when every song is available on YouTube for free?

But you do have the option to download the songs on Spotify and listening to them wherever you go, right? Which would be similar to buying the song on iTunes, from what I understand - even if the selection is not as vast. And I don't remember seeing adds on the paid version, but I haven't used it for long. From what I know, you have to be online to access youtube and it may not be the best website to navigate through for someone who just wants to listen to music in their cars and not worry about what song to listen next. And you do get a lot of ads on youtube.

I don't know these answers so I am asking out of curiosity. I have never used Spotify.
Can you download songs on the free version? Can you download songs on the paid version? Can these go on any system? Can you make copies of them?
What happens to these songs if one day you decide that you no longer wish to pay the monthly bill?

Can these go on any system? Can you make copies of them? What happens to these songs if one day you decide that you no longer wish to pay the monthly bill? Here's the gist, and it applies to all the major services, I believe (Google All Access, Spotify, Apple Music, Xbox Music): - Only paid subscribers (or trial users) can make offline copies. If you are no longer in the trial period, you are using the free service which restricts making offline copies along with other limits, usually that the only part of the service you can use is the on-demand radio or playlist function.
- These copies have DRM on them. If you terminate your contract or let it expire, the files will not work anywhere.
- These copies can go on other systems, but they must have the service on them, because...
- After a set period of time (somewhere between 12 and 48 hours depending on the service), the DRM locks the files. You must connect to the service so that it can verify your subscription and renew your DRM.

Spotify rules. It's a jukebox of 95% of the music out there I can carry wherever I go. I can make endless playlists. I hook it up in my car. I can play it at friends. It's ridiculously user friendly and easy to figure out / add playlists...etc.
I pay $10 / month for this service. $120 / year. $1,200.00 every 10 years. Beyond worth it to me.
I rarely if ever am at a place where I can't get wifi anymore so that's not an issue. Plus I can use Spotify anywhere. On my laptop, computer, Amazon / Fire TV...
If only Apple TV would add it. Ha.

^Well, digital sales ARE tumbling while streaming is growing, so consumers are changing as well.
I was still buying music on iTunes because for me, merging my extensive iTunes library and playlists with Spotify was too much of a hassle. But Apple Music has now switched me over to no longer buy songs/albums.
FYI, in the notes above where it says you can download songs with the paid versions, really it's that you can "save songs offline" -- you don't actually have an MP3 file you can burn to CDs or send to a friend or anything like that. But you can listen offline within the app.
Speaking of -- does anyone know if songs saved offline count as streams when you listen to them? For example, you listen to a song "offline" 10 times -- is that considered 10 streams, or just one stream since the song was only downloaded once?

^Still trying to boost certain tracks/acts? I don't purchase as many CDs as I used to, but I still do every now and again, especially for my favorite acts. I'm also going to try to get back into vinyl (I stopped at the local record shop and got some older releases recently, some which I had had, but disposed of some years ago). Did Ellie Goulding have a radio promo for her latest track?

^Still trying to boost certain tracks/acts? Ha, no, I've never done that. I was just curious, and I haven't read anything that addressed that question. I'm actually more curious if it counts toward royalties than the charts.

Like everything else Streaming too will peak. The success of Apple Music may delay it a bit but there are already signs that the growth is slowing. www.digitalmusicnews.com/2015/09/22/what-if-there-arent-any-more-streaming-music-subscribers/What If There Aren’t Any More Streaming Music Subscribers? In about one month’s time, we’ll know how many people are willing to pay for Apple Music. That number is absolutely critical to the future of streaming music, a sector that is proving ineffective at getting enough people to pay. According to the latest data released by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), paying subscribers increased just 2.5 percent in the past year, to 8.1 million by the mid-point of 2015. The stat bears repeating: paying subscribers only increased 2.5 percent in the past year in the United States, the largest music economy in the world. The question is critical, because without more paying subscribes, there really isn’t a sustainable streaming music business. a quick look at the data shows that paying subscribers contribute disproportionately large amounts of revenue: in fact, 73 percent of all streaming music revenue comes from paying subscribers (for year 2014). The remaining 27 percent comes from advertising, or ‘freemium,’ which means that most users are contributing very little revenue to companies like Spotify. www.digitalmusicnews.com/2015/09/22/what-if-there-arent-any-more-streaming-music-subscribers/
