Which of these flops is the most surprising to you? Relevant factors include the artist's popularity at the time, performance of previous singles, hit potential in the actual song, etc,
And I realize some of these songs were "moderate hits" (Google translate: a flop in the eyes of that artists stan), so let's not focus on whether some of these were flops or not (they all will be remembered as such in the long run).

"Adore You".
Miley was huge at the time and I really thought they'd be able to turn it into a bigger hit. It's a great song too.

Voted for "This Summer's Gonna Hurt." It followed up a lengthy string of hits, was catchy enough, and had the usual The Voice performance, yet failed to continue the trend. I get why it did now, but I definitely didn't expect it upon its release.

TSGH. It made it to like the top 30 on radio in a short number of weeks. Usually songs with such rapid radio climbs don't just plummet like that

"This Is How We Do"
I was sure that was going to be the song of the Summer when the album first leaked.

I really thought that "I'm Into You" was FIRE and would follow right along in the footsteps of "On the Floor," so I voted for that. The Miley Cyrus and Maroon 5 tracks were also surprises.

I voted for "People Like Us". It was such an obvious hit that was largely ignored despite its relatable lyrics, singalong chorus, and overall fun vibe. I am gutted that it flopped as hard as it did.
On the subject of Maroon 5's "This Summer...", it's not surprising that it flopped. It was so generic and boring. And the shock value aspect of the chorus didn't work.
And Katy's "This Is How We Do" was such a random WTF type of single choice (same with "Birthday"). It's good for what it is, but it's not a good single choice. It's filler at best.
I am surprised that "Cheyenne" underperformed as much as it did. It was released on the heels of a huge hit and it sounded really different from the previous single but it just never quite got its footing at radio, sales were low, and there was hardly any promotion in terms of performances and stuff. Perhaps that may have helped it on the sales front.

'Candyman' wasn't inexplicable. 'Your Body' was.

22.
This Summer flopping wasn't that surprising IMO considering that it had the most backlash among V's singles.

This Summer's Gonna Hurt. After all of M5's past hits, also considering how popular Adam Levine is, I thought for sure that it was going to do very well.

Hard to say because they all deserved their fate. As for my diva she deserved her #19 billboard hot 100 placement with that mediocre album cut getting released. Some would kill for a top 20 under their name as they have very few)

People Like Us and I'm Into You for me. They seemed to be obvious radio candy, IMO.

'Candyman' wasn't inexplicable. 'Your Body' was. If one doesn't promote it at all or even perform it while it's a single, that's going to make it harder.

22. It's very catchy, fun and followed on the heels of I Knew You Were Trouble, and have quite a lot of promotion.

No matter what, I'll always think that People Like Us would've been a top contender if released 1st over CMB.

Wow, how is This Summer's Gonna Hurt winning? It's one of the worst pop songs in ages. Why would it have hit? Sure M5 is huge, but you can't record your bowel movements and still expect mega success. It did downright amazing as it was given the quality.
Actually none of these are really inexplicable or shocking, mostly just mildly surprising for a few and not at all for several others. Except 22. That sounded like a massive pop smash and it had the momentum. Don't know what happened there, except maybe that was just too much of 1989 pop superstar Taylor before people were fully ready yet?

Easily 22 and People Like Us were the most surprising flops to me. TSGH literally screamed the word "FLOP" first listen to me and was not shocked it actually did but i'll admit I was shocked how fast it would drop but knew it would be lower than many of M5 singles in terms of their peak in the chart run!

Adore You and 22 are the biggest surprises. I never liked People Like Us so it wasn't a shocker when that flopped hard.
