'My Heart Will Go On' Both the song and movie were absolutely massive though.

The film was a big hit, but arguably it was as popular as it was because of the music. Under that theory, then, "I Will Always Love You" would qualify, and so probably would "I'm Every Woman" and "I Have Nothing"--all #1 pop/CHR hits.

Celine Dion - "Because You Loved Me" (from Up Close & Personal) Also I guess you could say Mariah Carey - "Loverboy" from Glitter. It wasn't huge but It did hit #2. The movie, not so much.

Taylor Swift - Today Was a Fairytale from Valentine's Day. Neither song or movie were necessarily "big," but I feel the song made more of an impact than the film did.

This is coming from someone who loves "Loverboy" but that song only reached num.2 because it was one of the most discounted singles in history. If I was at the register and a song was a quarter by a big known artist I would have bought it to. Well maybe it wasn't a quarter but 49 cents at a lot of places.

Seal - Kiss From a Rose (Batman Forever). The movie was successful, but the song was bigger IMO.

a few Madonna soundtrack songs come to mind: Crazy For You American Pie I'll Remember Maybe's: Into the Groove This Used to Be My Playground No's: Die Another Day You Must Love Me Others from Madonna: "Live to Tell" (from "At Close Range") and "Who's That Girl" and "Causing a Commotion" (from "Who's That Girl".) Bryan Adams' "Heaven" (from "A Night In Heaven".) Kind of a borderline case, but maybe Jon Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory" (from Young Guns II; the film did decently, but the song was a #1 hit and I think Jon's music is probably better remembered.)

This is true, however it does qualify as a hit, albeit not nearly as big as the peak of #2 suggests. You couldn't say the same about the movie, which was a straight bomb.

Seal - Kiss From a Rose (Batman Forever). The movie was successful, but the song was bigger IMO. Great example. While the song is an absolute classic and still instantly recognizable, the film is regarded as one of the worst superhero movies ever.

Glitter was the gold standard for movie bombs, at least until Gigli came out

Quite a few Madonna ones would apply. Aside from the previously mentioned, "Who's That Girl" and her cover of "American Pie" come to mind.

AGAIN by Janet Jackson? (Poetic Justice) I'll respectfully disagree. Poetic Justice has become a cultural phenomenon and many people know the movie, but unfortunately Again is one of those songs that are lost in her catalog.

Also I literally had no idea what Poetic Justice was, I had to Google to find out because I'd never heard of it before.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned "End Of The Road" by Boyz II Men (from "Boomerang") and "That's The Way Of The World" by Earth, Wind & Fire from the 1975 movie of the same name.

Yeah but the thread is about songs that are bigger than the movies they were featured in and both Into the Spider-Verse and A Star is Born were amongst the biggest movies of 2018, both commercially and critically, and both are still remembered. I mean Spider-Verse is getting a sequel.

Even after over three years, it's still one of the most streamed songs in the US and the world as well as being one of the most daily viewed songs on Youtube.

Okay but to say it's bigger than the movie is a bit much. Measurements of movies and music are obviously different and music is an easier medium to consume but in my eyes, Spider-Verse is still one of the biggest and most impactful animated movies of the 2010s. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's less popular than Sunflower.
