I know and I strongly believe that both of these songs are bigger than the movies they were feature on, especially Sunflower. Even after over three years, it's still one of the most streamed songs in the US and the world as well as being one of the most daily viewed songs on Youtube. Okay but to say it's bigger than the movie is a bit much. Measurements of movies and music are obviously different and music is an easier medium to consume but in my eyes, Spider-Verse is still one of the biggest and most impactful animated movies of the 2010s. I wouldn't go as far as saying it's less popular than Sunflower. We can just agree to disagree then.

The film was a big hit, but arguably it was as popular as it was because of the music. Under that theory, then, "I Will Always Love You" would qualify, and so probably would "I'm Every Woman" and "I Have Nothing"--all #1 pop/CHR hits. "The Bodyguard" grossed over $400 million worldwide and is on TV still constantly.

"Crazy For You," the theme Madonna sang became bigger than the movie it was attached to, Vision Quest. In fact the movie was renamed Crazy For You when it was released in the UK and Australia thanks to the popularity of the song.

Separate Lives by Phil Collins & Marilyn Martin and Say You, Say Me by Lionel Richie were massive #1 hits from the soundtrack to the 1985 film White Nights. I’d never heard of that film before learning more about these songs, but I’m told that it’s hilariously bad.

Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, and Bruno Mars- Young, Wild and Free, from Mac and Devin Go To High School.
Let's face it: You all forgot that this was a soundtrack hit in the first place.

I’d never heard of that film before learning more about these songs, but I’m told that it’s hilariously bad. The film was at least a decent commercial success ($10-20 milion budget, $42 million gross) even if the premise is somewhat ridiculous: two US/USSR defectors dancing Cold War tensions away? In any case, the songs seem better remembered and less dated.

All Star. Yes, it’s known for Shrek, but what about the movie it was actually used for, Mystery Men?

“Sunflower” immediately came to mind. It’s from the soundtrack of some Spider-Man cartoon movie that’s not even a part of the movie canon correct? The song had way more success and longevity than that animated movie.

Is it though? I feel like “Set It Off” was pretty successful and still gets plenty of love today. If anything I’d say the song didn’t endure as well as the movie. “Don’t Let Go” is the freaking jam though. It’s just so so good. I wish it was more iconic.

The movie is a classic as well as the song. Maybe not in pop, but definitely in its core audience (R&B/Urban) that song is still great appreciated and remembered well today. It has help up well today like the movie. And it is one his the top songs you think of when you hear "En Vogue" And you're right it is the jam!

The song had way more success and longevity than that animated movie. "that animated movie" was one of the highest grossing movies of 2018 and 2019, and has a sequel on the way. Oh, and it is part of the movie canon. As in, one of the first scenes in the movie is the main character listening and singing to it, and there's another scene later on where he sings the song again.

It seems it was more well known than the actual movie "Women In Red" soundtrack. My dad has this soundtrack on vinyl.

"The Greatest Love of All" was introduced in the 1977 film "The Greatest", about Muhammad Ali. I don't know if George Benson's version, heard in the film, really became bigger than it, but Whitney Houston's nearly a decade later sure did.

At this point, I would say Vegas will be more remembered than Elvis.

Even though the movie was a hit when it came out, I'd say "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly, "Fly Like An Eagle" by Seal, "For You I Will" by Monica, and "I Turn To You" (although it was more popular when Christina Aguilera sang it) from Space Jam were bigger and more remembered than the movie itself I’m 29 years old and I’m a fan of the 90’s classic movies, tv shows and music. I had to tell you that Space Jam is my favorite movie.

it's not a movie, but still... Going full circle from his solo mainstream breakthrough "Earned It" being the saving grace of the panned softcore porn saga it's attached to. Well, it and other noteworthy soundtrack gems like the wonderful "Love Me Like You Do". But yeah, "Popular" has been getting another resurgence thanks to The Weeknd integrating it to his celebration dance on Fortnite, and "One Of The Girls" keeps rising across the board despite being directly linked to the controversies surrounding the series. It's been quite a... fascinating thing to witness, and between it and Ariana Grande's unreleased "fantasize" blowing up on TikTok simultaneously with her homewrecking scandal last summer, it's proof that as long as the music resonates, the general public couldn't care less about the context. 💀
