You're a week early. ;) That's such a disappointing number for Demi though the album is probably her worst in my opinion. I hope that she prevails even though I'm not all that fond over the majority of the material.

A bit lower than I was hoping for Demi. It'll be interesting to see where she ends up with SPS. Happy for Pentatonix though.

Lower than I expected for Demi.
Hoping Coheed and Cambria can go top 20.

Isn't the title of this thread supposed to be 10/23 instead of 9/23?
Yeah, the numbers for Demi are lower than I expected...

Do people hate Demi now? Her singles are not doing as well this era either, right?

Do people hate Demi now? Her singles are not doing as well this era either, right? People don't need to hate an artist in order for the artist's popularity to wane. And I don't think the singles from this era are doing significantly better or worse than any other. Cool for the Summer did decently well and Confident is still coming into its own, we'll see exactly how well it does over the next few weeks.

That's lower than I predicted for Demi; I thought the lowest she'd go is around 75k. This could do a bit over half of her last opening, and coming off an album that shot off 3 hits.
The way they've rolled this out though really hasn't been the best. CFTS wasn't as big as Heart Attack, even if it peaked higher on CHR, and the album is coming out as it is getting purged from playlists and Confident isn't that high yet.

Next week:
Five Seconds of Summer and Carrie Underwood will battle it out for #1. Can both sell 300k+ each? 350k each?

LOL @ people being disapointed with Demi and Selena's numbers... This is not 1999 and they are not Britney and Christina.

I am not sure if I would say I am disappointed in Demi's numbers or not. Its to be expected especially since the singles don't seem to be selling that well despite radio deciding they will play her no matter what and her promoting non-stop. However, that same evidence makes me feel like this should have been a bit higher. Like, you can't say she hasn't gotten exposure this era. Radio played Cool for the SUmmer more than anyone expected and is currently exploding Confident up the charts twice as fast as songs that are selling much, much better. Ultimately, her and Selena will both be fine. I am sure they will grab enough hits and steady sales to get gold+ cds and a few airplay hits. That isn't a shabby era for either of them.

These are good solid numbers, 100K or higher for anyone is harder to come by. Just a few years ago it was a news item when the #1 album sold <100K. Now it happen about 40% of the time.

Next week: Five Seconds of Summer and Carrie Underwood will battle it out for #1. Can both sell 300k+ each? 350k each? Is this from HITS? Because whoever said that is trying it and hasn't done their research. Carrie's last album sold 267k 3 years ago. Generally speaking, I can't really see her jumping to 350k. She'll likely sell platinum in the long run and the project will be another success, but let's be realistic. She could have easily grabbed the #1 spot this week or from Selena, Janet, and Fetty, which makes the choice of next week even less smart.

Yes, I can see 5 Seconds of Summer doing 300K
This isn't the era of the sky's the limit though.
I agree with the prior post on Carrie Underwood

Carrie is the biggest female in country music. 300k should be easy for her in the 4th Quarter, but I agree with you too.

Disappointed in Demi's numbers... Hopefully her numbers trend upwards as the week progresses.
Either way, love the album!

I think 5SOS is gonna land somewhere in the 300-350k range saleswise, and will benefit from SPS as well.
I see around 220-270k for Carrie at best. Could be around 200k too, and her gain from SPS will be about 10k and less than what 5SOS will get.
I think Carrie's album will sell more in the long run, but going against a teen-centered act in a debut week generally isn't a good decision aside from select people (i.e. select hip-hop acts with strong bases, Taylor Swift, and Adele).

Demi is part indie now, right? Indie meaning her co-ownership in a new label?

Her new label is through a partnership with Island, but she's still on Hollywood records too, at least for this album.

LOL @ people being disapointed with Demi and Selena's numbers... This is not 1999 and they are not Britney and Christina. Nobody is expecting them to debut with Taylor Swift numbers, but to claim that their sales aren't disappointing is ridiculous. Both of their most recent albums did well and yielded several hits, so it's weird that they're struggling now, especially since their lead singles have been so big. I would have assumed that they'd both clear 100k in pure sales without a problem. Demi's projected sales are especially surprising.

PENTATONIX VS. DEMI: UPDATE While it's still close overall, Pentatonix now take a clear lead over Demi Lovato in album sales. With streaming data not updated since last week, SPS projections are subject to a larger than usual margin of error. Pentatonix (RCA) 73-78k albums, 80-85k SPS Demi Lovato (Safehouse/Island/Hollywood) 68-73k, 85-90k Machine Gun Kelly (Bad Boy/Interscope) 40-45k, 45-50k The Game (eOne) 40-45k, 45-50k Coheed & Cambria (Everything Evil) 28-32k, 30-35k Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 25-28k, 27-30k Joe Budden (eOne) 14-17k, 15-18k Hillsong Worship (Hillsong) 14-17k, 15-18k Børns (Interscope) 12-15k, 15-18k In political news, the Republican-led committee investigating events in Benghazi dropped a bombshell when chair Trey Gowdy admitted writing most of its findings in crayon after doing multiple bong hits.

Those SPS numbers are better. About where I expected Demi to land. Hopefully she hits 100k.

As proven many times in the past hit songs don't always lead to great album sales. Reality is Demi and Selena are not HUGE stars. They appeal mainly to one generation. Oh and let's not forget that they are trying to change their images right now, not sure parents are buying these albums for their kids.

I agree that a Carrie release this week would have made more sense, but I think those decisions are made far in advance and they likely scheduled the album promo and stuff well before they knew of their competition. Anyway, I think it'll be closer than we might think at this point. All inclinations point to 5SOS, but Carrie is known for surprises when it comes to sales and such; and it is Q4; AND it has been almost four years since we've last had a new Carrie album... So it's really hard to tell at this point. Based on pre-sales on iTunes and Amazon, Carrie is performing VERY well. Regardless, Carrie will almost certainly have the #1 country album for multiple weeks, so they'll still be able to call it a "#1 album", and I have no doubts this will perform well in terms of longevity and AT LEAST cross 1 million in sales.

Demi and Selena sales are just fine, they were never really big album sellers even during their Disney Channel days so with the more mature transition they will always lose some audience along the way and with the general sales erosion, those sales are just in line with what should be expected from them but at least they are still in the limelight and their singles are doing fine

"Cheerleader" appears in both Omi's Me 4 U and the deluxe version of Pentatonix's eponymous album, both of which were released last Friday.
I wonder if there are previous occurrences wherein a song appears in at least 2 albums (from different artists) that got released on the same week.
