I'll be really surprised if her team doesn't have her perform this at the Grammys. It would instantly go to #1 on iTunes.

Grammy Performance + Sentimental cry-worthy music video = This breaks through it's current roadblock.

Yeah, the only problem this song has at the moment is that it took off TOO quickly, when there were never going to be any promo opportunities until the Grammys + I doubt the video was ready. This has 82 million VEVO views when you combine the SNL and Church Studios performance.

It also needs to be put up for streaming.

I do want to give the obligatory "It doesn't really matter how this does on the charts".
However, I will say, even though this is an amazing song, I think it takes a few listens for the hook to grab you. It's more on the subtler side.
Also, I'm of the camp that thinks the "This isn't that radio friendly" line is overused here. But I DO think this song is DEFINITELY not that radio friendly. Like, on the level of Christina Aguilera's "Hurt", which I STILL can't believe they went with, and STILL can't believe went Top 10.

She could call it a day and use clips from The Notebook and it would send her streaming numbers through the roof.

It also needs to be put up for streaming. This is the big thing, at least Hot 100 wise and any chart that includes it. It should have gone for streaming as soon as it hit top 40 on radio, and both would have pushed each other. Even if a performance sends this flying up (which it would most likely), its run will be cut significantly in longevity, and more than likely the peak as well. The slowdown is surprising because with her popularity, I just assumed that this would keep shooting at least until callout came back, but let's not act like this is a normal act or that pre-top 10 slowdowns aren't a common occurrence. Yeah it's a bit too Streisandy for Top 40 these days (and wherever it does peak, I think the fall on CHR will be fast, just like it was for SLY), but that's where the immense hype comes in and helps make the bridge.

Not making songs available for streaming is going to be to now what not releasing CD/cassette singles was in the 90s.

So I'm not following this too closely, but is it really at #14 with no adds yet, Dark Horse style? I just hope they don't lose the right momentum, The Grammys need to be yesterday.

No, this was mentioned to be the second single prior to the album release. It just didn't get an adds date. Now say if All I Ask had overshadowed this and took off, that'd be a more similar situation.

Well, I just don't think this is a great song and after a really great song like Hello this just seems like a leftover song. But I kind of think that about the album as a whole except for the classic song Hello. There is a reason that was the first single. It just fit in perfectly for marketing Adele's return. The rollout of her album should be studied in Marketing classes! It was awesome. I assume she will perform at this year's Grammys but she isn't eligible for anything until next year? I haven't looked at the nominations. Anyway, I thought she would be a lock for album of the year next year but I'm going to say that will now go to David Bowie's new release. They'll pick Adele's Hello as SOTY and ROTY. Yeah, my initial impression of the album was that it was kind of weak on the whole, but then I really got into it for a few weeks. Now I'm back to thinking my initial reaction was more on point though. So many decent/good songs that just don't hold up particularly well though. Hello truly is the song of the album, it's so not even a contest. I can't imagine they had a very hard time picking it as the first single. WUTB really should have been second. Then SML for summer and another ballad to close things out.

I think it's a decent 2nd single and it seems to be Adele's choice, which after all the success she's had she deserves to have the songs she wants released. It will set up well for a 3rd single.

lets not beat around the bush. It's flopping. Thanks for the laugh! I'm on board with those that think a Grammy performance will solidify this songs hit status. She's going to crush this live and get a huge boost. I'd also really be shocked if her team didn't plan to get a video out for it sometime soon.

I'm getting so hype rn about her performance. I'm actually hoping this song is performed because it's so relatable. The wigs that will be snatched next month is almost too much. :'(

When Adele performs this perfectly at the Grammys, we need her to shed some tears along with some artists in the audience as well. Imagine the talk surrounding it, the gifs and the memes lol. It would be epic. "Adele makes everyone cry at the Grammys" I can already see the headlines.
Her dropping a video around the same time would be nice too. This song is one promo push away from breaking out.

Hello was my #1 song for 9 weeks. Justice prevailing (Grammys, ahem) this could shatter the 10 week barrier. :)

This isn't a "flop" by any means, but it also hasn't really been eventful as of now. Of course it won't be as successful as "Hello" was, but I could kind of see this going the PRISM route actually--"Hello" and "Roar" were both huge, "Unconditionally" (massively underrated song, btw) and WWWY both being moderate successes, and then 3rd single comes in and dominates a la "Dark Horse".
Put me in the boat for WUTB for 3rd single. SML is a bit too cliche/Taylor Swift-esque for it to really work for Adele I think. If Taylor released it, it'd be a hit, but I don't want people to think Adele is going after Taylor's sound for some more success, especially when WUTB would earn her plenty of success and accolades without having to steep to SML level.

Has any artist ever tried putting all of their singles on streaming without putting their albums there? I don't understand why artists don't do that.

I'm baffled by the strategy around this album , and previous , considering she makes no videos for singles after the lead single . For 21 , she only made a video for Rollng in the deep . Seems to be doing the same with 25 ? .

Seems to be doing the same with 25 ? . Someone Like You had a video too. In general though, she isn't that kind of artist. Her tour is sold out, her album broke records (again), she had a massive hit already. She doesn't need promo. If this only goes Top 5 on Hot 100 after a Grammy performance (I think it'll hit #1 myself), it doesn't matter. She's still the biggest thing since forever, and she has what g0rls with 10 #1s can only dream.

I don't see why people think she won't film a video for this song. She recorded a video for all of her singles from 19 and for RITD/SLY. The only single she didn't film a video for was "Set Fire To The Rain", but even then I saw the live version at the Royal Albert Hall get frequent plays on the music video channels in the UK.
Can't wait for February to come around and for this song to be promoted - should do wonders for its sales and the sales fo the album!

Adele clearly loves this song and loves Tobias. I don't think she cares if this is a huge smash or a minor hit. She wants it as part of her discography, and understandably so. It's personal, it's mature and it sounds authentic. Knowing full well we're getting SMLTYNL (probably next), I'm content with that.
However, I do think the one misstep they made (and that's if her record label is so worried about this being massive like SLY) was not requiring they show this on Carpool Karaoke. I also don't think they expected AIA to explode the way it did just from that small clip.

I think part of the reason for that is "Someone Like You" took off pretty much everywhere without the need for a video, but the US release of the song (sent to radio in August) they fimed/released one (September it was released) to help it there. I think this time round Adele's much more prepared too. A confirmed grammy performance is great though - hopefully it'll be uploaded to youtube and get a lot of views/push the song to #1.
