Not great for Coldplay. These Adele numbers continue to amaze. We obviously have our Billboard 2016 Artist of the Year right here. Bieber may be #2 although it stinks that his first week sales go to 2015. Nope, the 2016 chart year began for the period of November 13 and on, the day Purpose was released, so it will count towards 2016.

What is the record for highest non-debut week sales? Is it No Strings Attached? Skizzo posted the list last week of top SoundScan weeks ^means non-debut week: #6 Eminem The Eminem Show 1,320,000^ 2002 #9 The Beatles 1 1,258,667^ 2000 #16 Soundtrack The Bodyguard 1,061,000^ 1993 #25 Garth Brooks The Hits 907,000^ 1995 Didn't know that the week The Eminem Show sold over 1 mil wasn't its debut. Was the lower first week due to it being released on a Friday, or street date violations?

Wow, what the hell are those numbers for Coldplay? Looks like the finally are going the Nickelback route in terms of CD Sales. Looks like I was wrong about Adele. And I'm VERY happy about being wrong Suuuuuuuure... For next week, PLEASE post soon after the Hits early predictions and tell us how you knew Adele wouldn't sell more than xxx albums so that she keeps snatching your wig ;)

The last "official" release date was that Sunday, but retailers started putting the album out on Friday. source

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=298746Tuesday, December 1, 2015 TOP 15: ADELE'S MULTIPLE MILLIONS?Adele may add even more to the record books, as she flirts with 1m in second-week sales. No artist has ever sold over 1m in two consecutive weeks. We’ll be keeping an eye on the numbers every morning until the chart closes. Justin Bieber, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton and Pentatonix appear to be the big winners from last weekend’s $6.99 sale at iTunes. The latter also sees their 2014 platinum-plus Christmas album, which was on sale for $7.99, continue to grow. That gives them two titles in the Top 10. Here’s how the chart looks at midweek. Adele (XL/Columbia) 950-975k albums, 990k-1.02m SPS [25] Justin Bieber (RBMG/Def Jam) 130-150k, 210-230k Pentatonix (RCA) 75-80k, 80-85k [That’s Christmas to Me] One Direction (SYCO/Columbia) 50-55k, 70-75k Taylor Swift (Big Machine/BMLG) 47-52k, 56-61k Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 43-47k, 45-49k Now 56 (NOW/UMe) 35-39k * Erykah Badu (Motown) 32-37k, 35-40k The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 28-32k, 55-60k Pentatonix (RCA) 27-31k, 30-35k [Pentatonix] Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 25-28k, 30-33k Chris Stapleton (Mercury Nashville) 25-28k, 33-37k Michael Bublé (Reprise) 23-26k, 30-33k Selena Gomez (Interscope) 21-24k, 37-40k Andrea Bocelli (Verve) 18-21k, 18-21k Adele (XL/Columbia) 17-20k, 25-28k [21] * Debuts

Chris Stapleton has held up really well.
And its pretty clear Adele is going to hit a million again. They're milking it for clicks.

Amidst all this madness, Taylor Swift selling 50,000 albums - well done.
Great for Justin Bieber - he'll have no problem clearing 1 million before the end of the year.
Great for Pentatonix, curious how high they can go on round 2.
How many weeks until 25 surpasses 1989 to give Adele the top 2 albums of this decade? This week will put her around 4.3-4.4 million.

Why isn't there a big new Xmas album this year? Usually there's one every year (PTX, Kelly, Rod, Buble, Susan, Bocelli, ...) but this year PTX seems to be repeating as Xmas champ.

Labels were extra lazy this year.
GaGa/Bennett should have done one. Buble too...

Wow, one would think Black Friday is enough. That's a thing in Finland now too. In Spain too, we have a very very notorious black friday this year (i don't remember so many adds, or adds at all, about black friday in recent years). We adopted Halloween too (of course Halloween is a celt tradition and some parts of spain (included the one i live) were populated by celts (and Halloween being way funnier that our traditions on those days have a lot to do with that cultural invasion) Great second week for Adele, everybody (with Taylor Swift as exception) will sign for getting those number in this first week

Or perhaps....
Christmas is rooted in tradition and so is the music. Instead of doing the 100th version of a bunch of songs found on dozens of other albums that still sell well annually, perhaps there is nothing new to market this year.

Christmas albums are as old as recorded music. They didn't just wake up this year and decide it's best to stick with the old stuff.

I said it last year and I'll say it again, I dont get the draw of Pentatonix, but apparently a lot of people like them for some reason. Be nice if they can hit 100k, be nice to have a couple weeks with more than 2 six figure sellers.

Omg! Second week sales aren't a total surprise but to sell possibly 7 million within 6 weeks! That's crazy. Coupled with a possible Grammy performance tour dates she could easily go diamond by late spring!

Some Christmas albums have been released so, not sure that the labels are "lazy"
Perhaps there is nothing this year that catches the eye of the consumer that is fresh and original (hard to do with Christmas songs since so many get repeated over and over and over again)
Traditional recordings of those songs may be winning out this year because there is nothing catching on that is new and fresh.

Two days ago, Billboard had the figure at at least 650,000. two days later, the number's jumped almost 200K. SO, yeah, chances for another 1m+ are looking quite good. www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6784846/adeles-25-sales-climb-to-42-million-in-us-may-sell-950k-in-second-week?utm_source=twitterAdele's '25' Sales Climb to 4.2 Million in U.S., May Sell 950K in Second WeekBy Keith Caulfield | December 02, 2015 Adele's 25 has now sold more than 4.2 million in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music. After processing the first sales reports through Dec. 1, Nielsen Music says that 25 has sold at least 840,000 copies in its second week on sale in the U.S. Combined with the 3.38 million 25 sold in its first week (Nov. 20-Nov. 26), the album has now sold more than 4.2 million in pure album sales. The album’s second tracking week began on Nov. 27. Industry forecasters suggest 25 could sell perhaps 950,000 copies in its second week, with a chance it could nab a million. If it manages a million, it would then become the first album in Nielsen history to sell a million copies in two different weeks. (Nielsen began tracking point-of-sale music purchases in 1991.) There are slightly more than two days left in the current sales tracking week to be tabulated (as it ends at the close of business on Thursday, Dec. 3). Billboard is scheduled to report 25's second-week sales on Sunday, Dec. 6, once Nielsen has finished processing its weekly data.

840k minimum, so let's say at least 850k through Tuesday. It would 'only' need to average 125k a day the last 2 days to hit 1 million.

And remember when HITS was saying 850k for the whole week? Adele beat that in 5 days. Should comfortably pass 1 million then if it did at least 200k in 2 days. Needs 80k/day to get that 1 million second week.
